The leach bed was draining down the hill, into the walk way to the boat at the fire pit. So everyday we went to the boat we had to walk threw it. We paid $60 for wood and could never have a fire. The rail on the top deck was very unstable, the last 8 feet of railing at the boat dock was missing. Hot tub & Water smelled like strong bleach. Its not in my opinion dog or kid friendly. No yard for either. I received an email after my payment was processed (non refundable) that it might not be water front access.

We expected more from a Premier host. 1 bedroom had active water damage to an obviously repaired ceiling. It was soft and wet but not dripping. Some carpets were worn and wrinkled. Sliding door tracks and front door were filthy, baseboards dirty and dishwasher utensil basket broken, dropping all on the floor. The dw pod holder did not open in use. We just tossed the pod in the bottom but that's not ideal. There were maybe 6 mugs, 2 of them chipped. Most of the kitchenware, linens and furniture looked like garage sale stuff. We brought paper plates and used those exclusively. Linens were pretty well worn and nubby and bathroom and kitchen towels were too few. There was heavy dust on the TV stand which was packed full of partial games all helter-skelter. The main floor BR sink needed to be plunged to drain. There was blood on a mattress pad in the upstairs bedroom and a fresh fecal stain on a main floor bedspread. The upper house deck had no awning and was very hot in the afternoon. Most concerning were the rotted corner posts on most decking and stairs, and rotted decking planks on the upper (covered by a broken chaise) and lower docks. Positives: plenty of bedrooms, 2 refrigerators on 1 floor, 3 large garbage cans w pick-up 3xwk, hot tub, location at end of the road with plenty of parking. We've stayed in other homes on this wonderful lake that were better stocked, cleaner and safer. We still greatly enjoyed our stay and made great memories.

The pictures on VRBO are not updated. Some carpet has been remove, have nice flooring. The bed linens haven’t been update. Old and stained. Could use a good deep cleaning such as baseboards, ceiling fans, walls, registers, etc. There isn’t an air hockey game as shown in pictures only board games.

We had an extended family vacation and really liked this property. It is in more of a secluded part of the lake in a smaller inlet, but still deep enough to take the slide off the deck into the lake. It is close to the jump bridge too. The hot tub may just need more frequent cleaning but we still used it an enjoyed it. The community pool was used for the little ones too. Just be careful as there are a lot of steep hills so getting around usually takes a vehicle. Great property to stay at!

The cabin is nice but not worth the daily rate. There were no towels in the cabin and there were supposed to be. When I asked the property owner to give us some I never heard from him again. The dock is also nice but has a hole in the upper deck that could be dangerous.

This is a decent property. It was in need of some repairs but that comes with any house. I do think they could have checked different things in the house before letting another family stay. Some of the chairs were broken. The toilets needed repaired. The house also needs more coffee cups. There were 4 cups that wernt broken. The location was good, secluded enough but close enough to stores to cook every night. My only other complaint was how steep the stairs were to get down to the Fire pit. But what do you expect when your in the mountains. Over all it was a nice stay.

This house had a perfect amount of bedrooms for us and everyone was able to spread out.
Location is close to 63 and easy drive to Food Lion

We had a great time vacationing at Rustic Haven. The home was great for our family. The kids loved the slide from double decker dock to water.

We loved staying in this house! It had everything we needed and more! Parking was fantastic. The two refrigerators were clutch with a house full of teenagers. The quiet cove was wonderful for swimming. The number of stairs to the water was manageable compared to other places we’ve stayed. Very clean and nicely updated from the current photos with vinyl floors and flat screen TVs in several rooms.

Great getaway
Great getaway location. The owner really came through for me in a pinch when a different property canceled my reservation. He was a lifesaver. This is a quiet corner but near the jumping bridge, if you are into that. There is easy access to the rest of the lake and it’s near sugar hollow marina. There is a little debris on the property but nothing that would get in the way and all on steep hillsides that would be difficult to get to so did not get in our way at all. Dock worked excellently for my boat and the kids loved the slide. The house itself worked out great. It easily slept the 19 that we had. The bedrooms include three rooms with a queen bed and a bunk bed which worked out great for parents with younger children. Overall, no major complaints and had a fantastic week on the lake. Would stay again!

Family vacation
We booked this property for a family celebration/vacation for 20 of us-Dads 70th;)
The listing says private-that’s true. But also at the end of a cove-that’s not been cleared out from debris (lotssss of dead trees-broken chairs/floats). The actual dock was nice-kids enjoyed jumping off top deck and the slide: but most of us adults didn’t feel like the dock was a super clean area to swim.
The property boasted views-but it s not lake views. Only trees. Feels like a treehouse-as long as you can climb about 87 steps then you ll be able to get a glimpse of the cove.
The decks look fun-I until you arrive and there isn’t any furniture to enjoy any floors except the top. The hot tub is no way emptied and refilled between guests…& it may not be there next week anyhow-the wood under the decking for the tub is rotting horribly.
The kitchen is clean and easy to use-nice amount of cookware…but the beds will leave you needing a rest after your vacation. The mattresses must have been purchased from a closing motel 6 in the 90’s. They are all the worse mattresses I be slept on in quite some time-maybe ever-think rollaway type speaks and springs every time you move.
We would NOT rent this property again or recommend it for anyone.

Nice Get Away
This was our family’s first visit to lake Norris and everyone had a great time. The home listing is accurate and the property manager was prompt in responding if /when we had any questions or concerns. The living room and kitchen are a good size and worked well for our group. The extra living spaces on each floor were great spaces for our older kids to spend time. The bedrooms were a good size for our family. We had plenty of room for our belongings. The mattresses in some of the rooms were good and others left a bit to be desired. I wasn’t super thrilled with having to make all of the beds while on vacation and some of the bedding could /should be replaced. It does look like there are nice updates being done to the home throughout and some of the listing photos and layout are a bit different-still accurate but updated and different.
The outside decks are really nice and appear to be well maintained. We did wish there was more deck furniture. The first level had two tables to seat 8 total which was great but the second level only had one chair.
The hot tub was a nice touch and was relaxing at the end of a long day.
The nice pool is close by, walking distance if you don’t mind a bit of an incline when you walk.
One thing I wish I would have been more prepared for is all the stairs(!) All of the lake front homes have them and this one is no exception- there are a LOT.
The floating dock is nice to have. We rented a boat for a few days and it was convenient to have a boat slip. Unfortunately there was a lot of natural debris (logs mostly) floating in the water near our dock so we were unable to safely use the slide. And the inlet/cove we planned to use for kayaking/fishing/swimming that was out of the way of boat traffic was also so full of logs and other debris that we couldn’t really get in there to do much of anything. No one’s fault- just nature.
Overall, we had a great time, very nice and well maintained home, good location, LOTS of stairs (lol).

Great location for a family trip (winter)
We had a great stay with our family and friends, very spacious home. Jacuzzi was also good too.
Internet is very slow in this area so don’t expect almost anything from the internet. Good thing we had all channels

Amazing Vacations
The property was clean, tidy, comfortable, equipped with kitchen utensils. The Wi-Fi and cell phone signals are not very good. There are no stores nearby. It has a nice view. Peaceful place.

Great location
Multiple floors made it great for multi-family! Everything was in working order and we enjoyed our stay. I wish I had known the property was under renovations but it really only affected the asthetics of the property. I do suggest care when walking on the porches off the kitchen area.

Perfect getaway
This lake house is simply amazing! It is steps away from the beautiful lake and private cove. The double deck with slide was fun for everyone. We spent hours enjoying the warm lake water, even in the all day rain. The house is huge and with plenty of room to socialize or get away for some quiet, private time. The hot tub is awesome and the woods around the house are beautiful to explore. If you are on the fence about renting this home, don't delay! You will not be disappointed!

Family vacation
We had a really good time. Plenty of room and everything we needed. We also rented a boat and a tube that went great. Only complaint is all the stairs and would've liked a phone number to call for issues. But overall we would definitely stay again! Fun times!

50th Anniversary Vacation
We rented this home for our parents 50th Anniversary. There were 11 of us ranging in age from 2-70. The home was more than big enough for us all. We were even able to give everyone their own floor. The kitchen with its 2 fridges was more than accommodating. The 2-story dock was a huge hit. The water was very warm and was much cleaner and clearer than we would have guessed. Being at the end of the cove gave us a sense of privacy and the quietness to just relax and enjoy ourselves. Nothing is ever perfect though, but that 's not to say the negatives are even close to the positives of this house. The description mentions stairs, and oh my are there stairs. 77 to be precise. My 70 yr old mother counted them multiple times. :-) Make sure you've got everything with you before heading down to the dock, because you're not going to want to walk back up to grab something you forgot. If you're staying on the lower level be prepared to hear the septic pump when it kicks on. It woke us up numerous times during the week with a loud boom and the floor shaking. The first time not knowing what was going on was jarring, but after discussing with John, we weren't as shocked afterwards. The deck has numerous boards that need replaced, specifically under the hot tub, where you can see clean through one board. The fire pit needs cleaned out and rebuilt as the stones are falling off. I honestly think the biggest complaint we had was the landscaping. You can't see the dock or water through all the trees, plants and weeds. It would be such a better, more beautiful view if they were trimmed back and cleared away so you can enjoy the views of the water from all 3 decks. Also clearing and cutting them back would definitely cut down on the number of bugs and spiders. These are all "cosmetic" negatives, nothing that would deter us from renting again. Rustic Haven is a beautiful get away that allows you to forget about the hustle and bustle of home, and just relax and enjoy yourselves.

Norris Lake Fun
The house is in a great location. There was plenty of room for 15 people. Plenty of hot water for showers. The boat launch is a bit tricky. The house dock is great fun. The water depth is 16’ at the dock when the lake is full. Boat trailer parking was really full for the July 4th weekend. House parking is tight but we parked 4 full size trucks and a car in front of the house. There is extra car parking at the community pool. The area offers lots of lake activities from partying at the jumping bridge to quiet coves for relaxing. We had a lot of fun with this place. LaFollette/Jacksboro has just about everything you need and is reasonably close.

Lovely House
The house was lovely. It rained pretty much the whole week and the house still had enough to keep us busy. The deck chairs snapped as soon as my elderly mom sat in them. She wasn't hurt but it was annoying. you cannot see the jumping bridge from this location. You don't get the refundable deposit back however the manager did refund me for the hot tub not working with no problem at all.

Making more family memories
Our family of 21 from ages 9 to 78 had a great week just spending time together. We were a bit concerned about the location (i.e., back of a cove), but it worked out fine. We had plenty of sun and a nice area of water for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding boating and fishing. Everyone loved the slide and jumping off the upper deck of the dock. Having 2 fridges was nice. The second living area gave the kids their own space. Communication with our host was easy and never encountered a problem with the house. Ready to plan our next lake trip.

Amazing Adventure on the Lake!
My Friends and Family had a great time on the Lake. The property was as described. The property was really close to the Norris Jumping Bridge, one of the many destinations. Strongly recommend renting a boat along with the property, it will make your experience even better. The property had plenty of room and space.

Amazing place great vacation
The place was very clean the instructions were very clear. My family and friens enjoy every bit of this place. Yes there is a lot of steps so be prepared. The lake house was not in front of the house but if you look at the reviews it will tell you the reason plus I was communicating with the owner . It's a lot of mountain driving if you not used to it. We definitely got the exercise. Loved every bit of it and will go again . Thank you

Nice view
The property is really nice beautiful view of the lake and nature. Took the family for a white Christmas. The view of the lake and the slide going into the lake are misleading it belongs to the house next door. Nice hot tub. The linen was very dingy we had to wash it before using but ended up purchasing linen from Walmart. The bottom floor was very cold, we were unable to find the thermostat and ended up buying small space heaters. Overall we had the comforts of home.

Perfect location
My large group ranging from 5 months old to 51 years old stayed here. We are spread out all over the country, and decided to meet here for a nice getaway together. We did just that! It was a fantastic stay. John was very quick to respond and very nice. He gave us all the information we needed to have a great time. The house is the last one in the row, and you have a lot of room outside because of it. It has a neat little path with a canopy of trees we really enjoyed. The fire pit was a huge hit. Overall, our stay was one of the best we’ve had as a family. When we come back to this area, all have already agreed this is somewhere we would love to come again, or one of John’s other rentals. You won’t regret getting this place. Just book!

Walking into the house was a breath of fresh air. The main living area is large and had plenty of room. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. If you are coming to stay, please bring extra toilet paper, trash bags, napkins, kitchen towels, paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, dishwasher packs, laundry packets and all toiletries. It was disappointing to have to supply all of these supplies. I would assume these aren't supplied because of Covid. I would definitely recommend this for a younger group of people because of all the stairs. We did however enjoy our stay and like the experience of staying by the water.

a family vacation to remember!
The house was very accommodating for our group of 18. We were able to give the two teens their own space on the top floor, boys in one bedroom, girls in another, and every couple their own room. The dock was a big hit with everyone as was the hot tub. My grandchildren said it was the best vacation they have had, but a lot had to do with the pontoon boat, wake board, skis, and 3 seater jet ski we rented. Contact manager as we got a discount through him!

Lake Life
If you have a large group and want privacy at the lake this is your house. They are currently remodeling but the newer floors are nice and easy to clean up.
Couple of things: they mention that you need TP and Paper Towels they only provide the trash bags that are in the cans so you will need more. The bed linens are provided but not on the beds they are in each room so be sure to check that if you don't want to sleep on a mattress pad. The decks are amazing but the wood is old and in need of repair so be careful. There is a lot of stairs so just be sure you are able to walk them. The hot tub while it is great they change the water prior to arrival, the bleach was insane and literally bleached my bathing suit so smell it before you use it.
They provide all the needed dishes and utensils the only thing is if you are a big group they only provide 2 dish pods so bring more because obviously you will run the dishwasher more than twice.
Stores are about 20 minutes away for things you forgot.
The dock was my favorite part it is amazing, one of the chairs are broken but other than that the slide is awesome and you have a small piece of paradise at your fingertips.
We had a great time and would rent again.

Lots of fun!
We had tons of fun! The dock with the slide was a hit with most everyone! My husband and I and our 5 grown kids and their families love to find fun rentals on the lake every summer! This one did not disappoint. There are LOTS of stairs so be prepared for a work out! That did not stop us from having a blast. You feel like you have your own piece of heaven back in the little cove, but the marina is only a couple minutes away where you can rent watercraft of all kinds.
Had a couple of issues, but when we called the manager he did what he could to fix those as fast as possible, even on a holiday weekend. Super easy to contact and very friendly!
Thanks for a super fun time!

Great Christmas in the Mountains
Our family stayed at Rustic Haven for the week of Christmas. There was plenty of space for our group of 13 to enjoy each other’s company but not be right on top of each other. The property was decorated for Christmas which was a nice surprise! We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back in the summer months! Thank You for the memories !

Will stay again!
The property was a bit hard to find the first time specially with it being dark upon arrival however it was amazing! There was more than enough space for my guest and myself and we really enjoyed ourselves. I love the way it more of a “in the woods” feel with not being able to sit on phones all day and by the team we realized there was a house phone we where glad we didn’t know because it made the stay more active! The host was very quick with answering questions when needed! The place was clean bed where clean everything was just very nice! If you have family or friends and want to take a group get away to get to know eachother this is the perfect place to be! The house was huge! I give this place a 5/5. The lake was a little off from the picture but it was still right in the backyard. I would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone!

September Lake Trip for the whole family
Owner was responsive and accommodating of anything we needed. The large lakefront house has all the sleeping arrangements listed on the site and plenty of common areas for people to hang out. Nice size firepit area on level ground near the water. We did not have any parking issues for several large vehicles. The kitchen was stocked with utensils needed to feed the crowd. The two refrigerators are needed for this large of family gathering. nice big table in kitchen seats 10, and there is room to put up additional table if needed. Nice to be able to sit down together for dinner. The development also has a pool for our use, which is nice to have as an option.

Ideal if you want privacy
John was flexible and accommodating! If you like your privacy this is definitely the place for you! There are stairs all the way down to a flat walkway to the dock. The picture of the dock needs to be updated, because the dock is at the end of a cove ,not open and sunny as it appears online.
Trees block most of the view of the water from the top deck , which was disappointing. And the WiFi was really terrible. None of this stopped us from having a fabulous time with family!

The house is poorly maintained. Few holes in the walls, towels racks off the wall and not replaced
We had a great time at Rustic Haven. The only critic I would have is perhaps you need to look into a different cleaning service. The pantry had large crumbs scattered on the floor. We found a 1/2 gallon bottle of Capt Morgan in the bedroom (empty of course) In plan sight.(not sure how it was missed) No sheets on the beds. Maintenance on the house was poor. Needs a coat of paint. Didn't stop us from having a good time
