Good option for Polonnaruwa. Recommended!

Excellent breakfast and dinner either in quantity and quality. The family appreciated a lot the rice of the dinner. Very well welcome of the staff

One advise: take your flashlights and power banks to deal with power cuts (two per day)

Ok for Polonnaruwa - but not our best stay

Clean and spacious rooms , a good breakfast , good location with a nice view of the rice fields , bycicles were available. The staff ( breakfast) was really nice and friendly .

Unfortunately we didn’t feel welcome . There was not even a bottle of water or a kettle in the room. The lady asked us to check- out after breakfast , and we were the only guests. In the end , however , it was ok to check out later . I would unfortunately not recommend this guesthouse .

Comfortable and well-located, the ideal place to stay if you visit Polonnaruwa.

The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The room was very comfortable - everything worked (hot and powerful shower & good air conditioning) and nice balcony. Excellent location too. Good breakfast and delicious dinner available too.

WiFi was quite slow but seems to be a recurring issue throughout Sri Lanka.

Great and Friendly Service

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Thisara Guest House, which proved to be an excellent choice. The guest house was conveniently located near the ruins and Kaduruwela town, making it easy for us to explore the area. The breakfast provided was delicious, offering a satisfying start to our day. However, what truly made our stay exceptional was the attentive and courteous care we received from the owners of the guest house. Their personalised approach made us feel like we were not staying at a hotel but rather in the comfort of our own homes. This warm and welcoming atmosphere greatly enhanced our overall experience. I highly recommend Thisara Guest House to anyone seeking a memorable and homely stay in the area and staff who went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

Room cleaning needs to be further improved and having Wifi would be ideal.

Wouldn't stay again

Good location walking distance to town.

There was damp and mold on the walls next to the bathroom and it smelt moldy. The bathroom wasn't clean. The chairs in the garden were all dirty and falling to bits so not usable. The whole place needs painting and cleaning. The owner seemed like everything was too much trouble for him.

Nice view of rice field and good breakfast

The breakfast is good with a great variety including fresh fruit juice. Nice owner. Location is okay to reach the ancient site and the view from the breakfast area towards the rice field is very nice.

We expected more from seeing the pictures on the internet. The bathroom was very damp and the room not in a good condition. We expected there would be some options to eat dinner at the accommodation since there is not a good selection of restaurants in Polonnaruwa.

Great value with beautiful views and helpful hosts.

The owners are very nice and helpful. The breakfast was outstanding! We were sitting listening to bird song with a view over the rice fields. It was a serene start of the day.

Lovely and relaxing.

Very cute, family run guest house close to the ruins. Lovely hosts, quiet, terrific breakfast (and dinner with much-needed beer upon request). Highly recommended.

Brilliant place, lovely hosts, recommended highly

the owners were really nice and very helpful. the surroundings were beautiful and not far from the historical sites. the breakfast was delicious and plentiful. the hosts helped to organise a brilliant safari with a great guide (we saw loads of elephants)

The guests were very nice and ready to offer any assistance when needed. The view on the rice fields was great, with birds surrounding the area. We also had local breakfasts and dinners at the guedt house, fresh and tasty.

Exceptional

- Super nice location in front of paddy fields. The place is very green and relaxing, I liked having plants and flowers all around. - The room is nice, great money-value. - The food was simple but really tasty and the hosts were always so nice! They even waited with us until past midnight when our bus to Colombo was late.. thank you so much! - There you can also rent bikes for cheap, overall a perfect accommodation if you want to visit Polonnaruwa !

Affordable for a night beside Pollonaruwa ruins

Lovely family hosts who couldn’t be more helpful. Bikes ready and waiting for you on arrival. Good value dinner and generous breakfast.

Not bad for the cost, but a little rough round the edges. Some missed areas of cleaning e.g. bathroom and fan. Although we enjoyed the food the dining experience was not pleasant due to the number of insects (due to being next to a paddy field). We know this isn’t the fault of the owners but maybe a dining area with mosquito nets would help!

Nature, simple, clean and very nice owners

Really nice guest house in the nature. The owners are super friendly and helpful. The rooms are simple but clean and the bed was comfortable. We had a little terrace where we could sit and look into nature. We rent bikes from the house and went to all the temples. I can definitely recommend this place!

lovely guesthouse for exploring Polonnaruwa

Great value for money. The room looked over the rice fields which was lovely. The breakfast was huge and tasty, as was the lunches and dinners we had. we borrowed bikes to go and see the ruins and the hosts also arranged taxis and a safari for us, as well as laundry.

I was in an upper floor room that has been recently renovated. Beautiful cool marble floor, comfortable bed, lovely spacious shower. And it’s so peaceful there. I had a really good sleep.

The location, walking distance to the historic sites, old and new town. In general the facility was clean and had everything.

We requested a vegetarian breakfast and we had bread and pol sambol. In all the other home stays they had seasonal fruits. Compared to other places we have stayed in this trip the breakfast was underwhelming.
