Great location, great staff, includes a basic breakfast
The staff was great, really pleasant and helpful. The location was perfect, just down the street from Southern Cross train station.
I was on the top floor, I think it was the fifth floor. The bathrooms were out of service on that floor so I had to go down a flight to use the bathroom.

Slightly pricy, but the staff, cleanliness, and location make it a top-tier pick.
As long as you have the "backpacker" mindset when you come (i.e. don't expect luxury, prepare all toiletries you want, bring a pad lock for lockers, etc.), I think this place offers one of the best hostel experiences you can find anywhere. The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful, and were always willing to help or answer my questions (both via messaging before arriving, and in-person after arriving). I could also tell that they cleaned regularly everwhere (rooms, toilets, showers, etc.), which was a huge relief. The location is also extremely ideal. If you enjoy walking everywhere, you can basically explore the entire free tram zone on foot starting from the hostel, but trams are easily accessible. The breakfast was minimal (cereal or toast + jam, peanut butter, etc.), but you could eat as much as you want and milk and coffee were both free, and having breakfast available helped me save a bit of money. The washer/dryer available was also helpful (and I appreciated being able to buy detergent at reception). Considering all the above, I think the slightly higher cost of this hostel makes it more than worth it.
This place is a VERY social hostel. So if you're here to party and make friends, you'll love this place, and love staying up with your new friends until past 2 AM. Unfortunately, if you just want a place to stay like me, you will not appreciate having people come in and out of your room until past 2 AM... Since as a light sleeper, this made it really hard for me to get proper sleep. Be that as it may, the guests were generally considerate when entering the rooms late at night. Regarding rooms, most beds don't have a power outlet easily accessible from the bed (especially the upper bunks), so you have to ask the staff to lend you an extension cable. Also, this is a suggestion directly for the owners, but I think it would be better to assign bunk beds to people by number, since I had a small incident where a new guest accidentally took my bed since I didn't leave any obviously visible belongings out (which I don't feel comfortable doing). But the staff available at the time helped me get a new bed, so it wasn't a major issue.

Stale, unclean and untidy
Location
Tbh everything was poor aside from the location, from the beds, ventilation, cleanliness, main area was poor with not really a good chill out zone, kitchen was messy and dirty, bedroom door doesn’t shut on its own so people would often leave the door open, the place smells stale and one of the shower heads in the main bathroom was missing with staff not knowing about it.
