Friendly helpful staff, nice onsen, good location.

Staffs are very friendly. Food tasted amazing. Love the daily treats. Kids love the tatami area too.
Got the room next to smoking room, hallway is little stinky due to the smoke.

Communication with Rika, via Booking.com was great.
They have a courtesy bus that collects you from the train station and takes you to the snow monkeys.
Love the authentic feel of the B&B.
I'd recommend the private onsen to share a romantic moment with your partner (a small additional cost for this).
We stayed in a room with Tatami area which was set up so we could have our own afternoon tea, which we enjoyed.
Had a little souvenir shop and great mountain views.

It is a nice and traditional Onsen Hotel. We stayed in a VIP room with private outdoor onsen. It is very nice with good view from the flat. Staff is very helpful.

The on-site onsen and included breakfast were great. The whole experience felt very special. They also provided a shuttle up to the Snow Monkey park and to the train station at Yudanaka.
The air conditioning seemed under-powered for the room size.
Although there was a return shuttle available from the Snow Monkey park, the timing of it would have only given us a brief time at the park. It would have been nice to have 2 or 3 options for shuttles to get back to the hotel instead of calling a taxi. We ended up walking back, which was fine because it was only 4.5 km and almost all downhill.

the grounds and room were beautiful
1. Told not enough seating in their only Resturant. For Sunday breakfast us and another couple had wait for 20 min even though they could have set up chairs outside and they let us eat for only 10 min before shutting down.
2. They twice messed up on taxi ride, in fact we missed our tour of Nara because of it. when we shared this all they said was sorry. Second time, somehow a van showed up from them.
3. We go to dinner and nobody is there and a couple people outside and asked to sit outside but they say no because only for high tea which was half full. after discussing with both managers, hotel and Resturant, we finally get to sit outside.

This is an amazing ryokan. If you let them know when you arrive at Yudanaka station they will have a shuttle to pick you up. They also have a shuttle that takes you to the Snow Monkey Park so you can leisurely start hiking the actual hike. Afterwards they pick you up and drive you straight to Yudanaka station and your luggage is of course also brought along.
I booked dinner and breakfast and both were just amazing and such a nice way to experience Japanese culture. The dinner was especially good.
They also have hot baths that are open 23h with both indoor and outdoor onsen.
At this place everything is taken care of for you.
Nothing. Everything at this ryokan was perfect.

I liked everything. It's a beautiful place. Authentic Japanese experience. Fantastic place. The food was incredible, delicious Japanese meals.
Nothing. It was amazing.

the location
would have been better if we've stayed longer than just 1 night.

so helpful and comfortable- Japanese style room with comfy western style beds.

The staff are very friendly and helpful!

There is a very nice private rooftop Onsen bath, the staff was very friendly, the original japanese futon beds were incredibly comfortable and we appreciated the free shuttle to the Snowmonkey park!
Personally we did not enjoy the food as much as we expected. It was good, but very particular and probably not for everyone. Yudanaka itself is not as interesting, so we would recommend to stay only one night if you want to see the snow monkeys and enjoy the Onsen bath.

The place was clean. staff were very very friendly.

- Good location
- Natural hot spring
- Wifi is not the strongest, sometimes not connected
- Water in the private bathroom is not hot even-though I turned to 50 degrees
- Can not have breakfast at the restaurant in the ryokan unless you book in advance for a few days (the receptionist said it's difficult to arrange breakfast when they're told even one day before)
- Onsen with natural stream from the mountain! However the decorations and scenery is not the best for sure. Can see the spider web on the rock wall of the in-house onsen. The outside onsen is not hot at all.
- Overall it's ok to stay but not worth a price at 22k yen per night. Better staying at Shibu Onsen and try out the 9 onsens.

This ryokan is the perfect blend of East meets West! Here you can experience the magic of a traditional Japanese village while enjoying all the comforts of home. The rooms are spacious, extraordinarily clean, and have everything you need to relax. You can choose between a Japanese-style room, including futon beds, low tables and tatami mats, or select a western designed room with standard beds and furniture. Both are well appointed, thoughtfully furnished spaces. The staff speaks English, and cannot do enough to ensure that your every need is met. The onsens (traditional hot baths) are a delight! While visiting, you can use one of the beautiful indoor onsens, or splurge for a private rooftop open air experience. Meals at Ryokan Biyunoyado are something you absolutely must include in your stay. The Kaiseki feasts are out of this world in both quality and quantity! This kitchen prepares only the finest, freshest ingredients, and the dishes are incredibly diverse. For example, one such meal will include beef, chicken, sashimi, cooked fish, pork, and far too many side dishes to mention. The presentation is extraordinary, easily the finest we have had in all of Japan! Lastly, this hotel is perfectly situated, offering a wide variety of activities for every guest. The hotel provides shuttles to take you up the mountain for skiing or snowboarding in the colder months, or hiking in the warmer months. Just a few minutes away, you can see the famous Snow Monkeys who bathe in their own onsens! We are experienced travelers who have visited all 50 United States and over 60 countries around the world, and we can honestly say that Ryokan Biyunoyado is an exceptional value and a MUST if you are visiting Japan. It's just a train ride away from Tokyo, easy to get to and impossible to forget. Don't hesitate to visit this enchanting place, come visit the "real" Japan. We promise you won't regret it!
Frankly, we felt catered to in every way and do not have any complaints! One very small suggestion would be to offer coffee at breakfast. We like the local tea, but did miss our coffee by day two of our stay. However, all we had to do was ask and coffee was brought to our table immediately. It was such a joy to stay here.

the beautiful view, the fact that they had a shuttle bus.
the room was pretty tired.

This is not my first time staying at a ryokan, but compared to other ryokans, this ryokan is no less comfortable at an affordable price, the staff is friendly and helpful.
we can wear yukata and enjoy kaeseki dinner style in our private dining room

Appreciated the dinner and breakfast + the complimentary shuttle to see the monkeys
4.5
Very helpful staff, nice having station pickup and shuttle to snow monkey park.
Cut our stay short because we just couldn’t sleep on the flat futons. Our room could have used updating, and due to the large size of the ryokan, it was lacking any charm that would have overcome the very very dated room amenities
4.5
I loved everything, breakfast was amazing. Staff are super super friendly. They drove us to and from the station, snow monkey park. We also booked a private bath session which is located on the roof top, it was one of the best experience we had.
4.5
The dinners were a particular highlight.
Exceptional service, catering for children & dietary requirements.
Bathroom could do with some minor maintenance.
