The second home is for overflow only and never rents out separately. You will never have to share your space or the 65 acres with anyone other than your own group.
Crystal Mountain Cabin on Terlingua Ranch is the ideal home base for your visit to the Big Bend Region. Modern design will set the perfect tone for your Big Bend adventure. The surprising seclusion will provide ample privacy and solitude.
Relax inside or outside. Lots of space, large windows, covered decks, a large stone patio, and 65 private acres provide lots of options on where to hang out.
At night watch meteors fall and satellites fly overhead as you marvel at the Milky Way. Relax around the campfire with a refreshing beverage, maybe even a sausage on a stick, or better yet, some s’mores. Whatever you eat and drink around the fire ring, will go well with campfire stories, some songs, or whatever else you want to do. It’s just you and your partner, or family and friends, under a starry Texas sky.
During the day, head into to park, down to Terlingua, or to the Rio Grande, or just enjoy the home and the secluded 65 acres of Chihuahuan Desert habitat. At the property, relax inside or outside or go for a hike around the rugged and scenic property. Wildlife and diverse desert plant life and abundant and varied.
The living room and kitchen are open concept with lots of space and amazing views through large picture windows. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, cookware, utensils, a large fridge, glass top stove and oven, dishwasher, and all the basics you would expect in a large kitchen. The bedrooms have king bed in the master and a queen bed in the second bedroom. The bathroom is spacious and stylish with two sinks and a large shower.
Terlingua Ranch Lodge, just ten minutes away has the Bad Rabbit Café; for great food, cold drinks, and frequent live music. The lodge office is also the place to register if you want to explore the Christmas Mountain conservation area. Terlingua and the western entrance to Big Bend National Park is a short 35-minute drive away. Adventure outfitters located in Terlingua offer river trips, horseback riding, jeep tours, ATV adventures, Jeep rentals, guided hikes, and mountain bike rentals. The famous Terlingua Ghost Town is just 40 minutes away. Both the Ghost Town and the Terlingua/Study Butte area offer shopping, dining, drinking, live music, art galleries, and more. Heading another 15 minutes west from Terlingua will take you to Lajitas for more upscale dining options, a few great shops, and the chance to meet Clay Henry, the beer drinking goat that happens to be the mayor. Big Bend Ranch State Park (the national park’s wild and rugged cousin) is right there as well. Stop in at the Barton Warnock center just before you get to Lajitas for an overview of the park, museum, and a terrific book shop. Alpine, Fort Davis, Marfa, and the McDonald Observatory are also within easy day trip range.
Come on down. Enjoy the Big Bend. Do as much or as little as you like. You’ll have a memorable time and will likely start planning your return trip before you even leave. That’s great. We’ll love to have come back over and over. In fact, that’s how the owner of Crystal Mountain became the owner. He came out here so often and enjoyed staying at other Big Bend Vacation Rental properties so much that he eventually decided to acquire his own properties. He now owns Crystal Mountain One and Two and Crystal Valley, just a short drive away. He was very deliberate and considerate in incorporating all the things he enjoyed the most at other rentals, plus adding extra touches to create the ultimate Big Bend vacation home base. Now, he’s eager to share it all with you.

This place is amazing! Beautiful, quiet and well appointed two bedroom cabin near Big Bend. The host was also very friendly and available when we had questions.

Excellent property out in God’s Country. Very easy to get to. The dirt road to the home is accessible with an ordinary automobile. You have complete solitude out here. The home matched the pictures. Everything worked great in the house and we found it very clean. Ample water supply and hot water for your shower! Communication with the owners was excellent.
We will return!!

Property was just as listed. Convenient location to explore Big Bend. Nice and clean as well. Property managers had good communication. We didn’t need anything during our stay but they did reach out periodically to make sure our stay was going smoothly. Would stay here again.

The view each morning was absolutely extraordinary! As was the evening sky! We couldn’t wait to get to get back there each day from our trip into the national park. I actually think it was the best part of our trip! Highly recommend it.

This property is absolutely breathtaking. The home has everything you could ever need. It is well appointed and very beautiful. But, it is the location that is beyond fabulous. We have stayed in many VRBO properties across the USA and Europe. This property is my all time favorite!!! I was really sad to leave. You are in your own little valley between the peaks of the mountains. It is so quiet and peaceful. I LOVED THIS PROPERTY!!! If I am ever in this area again, I will book this property! Absolutely phenomenal!!

The home was perfect for star gazing. I was able to capture beautiful milky way and sunset pictures. We saw an abundance of wildlife that included mule deers, javalinas and birds. The home is beautiful as well. The Beastie Boys DVD was a bonus!

This was the best VRBO property we have ever stayed in. It has all kinds of amenities including plenty of towels, paper products, games, etc. The views are spectacular and it has great proximity to the park. Excellent communication with the owners as well. Highly recommend!

Amazing house! Super clean and cozy! Loved the views. The road was an adventure to get to the house but if you have high clearance you will be fine!

This home was a wonderful home base for exploring the Big Bend area. The house itself is wonderful: comfortable, clean, and well appointed. It was the perfect size for our family of four. It also is very private, so we felt truly remote and had fantastic stargazing at night. We will definitely be back!

We loved this property! It's perfect for a large group having the second cabin next door.
The internet was spotty but it wasn't a big deal for us. The kitchen was perfect for cooking and loved all the windows!

This place is amazing that we decided to come back two years later and stay again. In addition to it have a full bathroom inside it also has an outdoor shower with an amazing view.
The property is secluded so you have a lot of privacy and have an amazing view.

Loved the house, very comfortable for two couples. A bit far out and it helped to have a truck when driving over the rocky roads. Amazing views from the house. Water pressure in shower was light. A/C and heating control/ directions were needed.

Rented this place for my girlfriends bday. As soon as we pulled up we fell in love with the seclusion and views around the rental house. Everything was very clean and very nicely laid out. Cooked dinner, ate outside and enjoyed touching the stars at night. But the best part is that we seen a beer about twenty yards from the back patio… We also seen two mule deer and rabbits on the property. Just a great experience, bottom line is that I will be back next year. Only one slight issue, the propane grill tray was not clean and we had to stop cooking to clean it so we did not start a fire in the grill. So check it and clean it before cooking. See you next year!!!

We have been staying here annually for the last 3 years. There is a reason we keep coming back. The seclusion, views, and wildlife are all excellent. The place is well maintained and very comfortable. We do a lot of hiking and biking at BBNP, BBRanch, and Lajitas during our stay. There is a decent amount of hiking around the property as well. If you stay here be sure to check out Bad Rabbit Cafe down the road in TRL. Food is good with some of the nicest people you will meet.

Location and scenary were awesome!! Saw some mule deer one morning and maybe an antelope.
Property was clean and very nicely maintained with everything we needed. Recommend putting another king size bed or two twins in the bedroom that has a queen. Maybe a handrail to get up the steps would be nice. My 85 year old mother would have had a bit easier time. But she ABSOLUTELY loved the house! Would definintely rent it again and recommend it to friends.

Unique Experience we will never forget
Our family of 4 (2 college-aged boys) and my husband and I rented this place for a few nights while visiting Big Bend National Park for the first time. The place is INCREDIBLE. You simply cannot ask for anything more. I couldn't wait to get up every morning to look outside and take it in. The stars at night are something like I've never seen (we are from Michigan). We grilled once, played games at the kitchen island and can't find a negative thing to say! If you are thinking about this at all, JUST rent it. I promise you won't regret it. It is remote but yet power everything and great wifi. We absolutely loved it.

Really enjoyed it!
We had a very nice weekend at Crystal Mountain 1! Even when you're inside, it feels like you're outside with the wraparound windows. We went over to Big Bend, which isn't super close but it's also a nice and easy drive. And just hanging out at the house was very enjoyable. My only critique is that the cleaners also need to clean outside, on the porch, since that is such a big part of the attraction of the house. But that didn't diminish our stay.

An oasis in the Texas desert!
This property is the perfect place to stay while enjoying the Big Bend area! Some of our favorite things : watching the sun on the surrounding mountains at different times of day, star gazing at night, the peaceful silence, the great views from every window, the comfortable deck seating to enjoy the outdoors, the convenience to Big Bend National Park. The property manager was excellent at preparing us for the few limitations of the property (gravel drive, drinking water). We’d love to stay again!

Our stay
We loved staying at your home. The view of the mountains was beautiful. We saw mule deer & quail. The stars were bright & hiking was perfect. Very comfortable bed.

Beautiful setting but a long ways from anywhere
It’s long 30 minute drive from Terlingua restaurants and grocery and a 45 mile drive to the park entrance, make sure that is what you want. The home is clean, spacious and a beautiful setting against some hills. The beds were comfortable and the Wifi was fast enough to stream.

Amazing Location
This is our 2nd year staying here. I can’t wait until next year. Pictures don’t do justice to how beautiful the area is.
Thank you

Oasis in the Dessert - WILL BOOK AGAIN!
This was our first time to Big Bend and we were sure we wanted to avoid the trinkets of a hotel and find a cabin. What we didn’t realize when we booked the cabin was how far outside our expectations it would land. The southwestern/Texan character of the house, incredible view from the back yard of crystal mountain, the beautifully built outdoor fireplace and patio, and not to mention the stars. Something they don’t show off on the VRBO posting - but will blow your mind.
A few things:
1. If your like to cook as we do - they really provide a ton of cookware, utensils, and dishes.
2. Showers - the hot water may seem like it lacks as well as the after pressure. Just be patient! After the first night - it really changed for the better. Long lasting hot water and increased pressure. Sometime we just had to let the water run for a few minutes before hopping in the shower. But with a bit of patience - it will be okay!
3. WFH - we both worked from the cabin one day of our visit and both need high speed internet for zooms, etc. It worked perfectly! I didn’t even have to turn off my camera to decrease band width usage. Excellent place to “work from home” with a zoom backdrop that will shock your colleagues!
We want to thank Daryl and and Janet for giving us such an incredible gift. We will certainly be back and are actively lobbying our fiends and family to do the same!

Awesome place, with an incredible view.
An amazing stay with great accommodations. The back porch has an incredible view with a nice fire pit. Would definitely recommend and plan to stay again, just be mindful of the longer drive in to the national park

Beautiful!
We had an amazing time at Crystal Mountain One. The view was spectacular! The house is very nice, new, and had everything we needed, we had no issues at all. Our kids and us loved the fire pit outside and exploring around the land. There is a view from every room in the house! Everything was perfect and we had no issues with communication. Daryl gave us perfect direction and was quick to answer any questions we had! We loved our stay :)

Great little hideaway!
This is a very secluded spot but very beautiful. Accommodations are like new. Very comfortable and nice porch/fire pit area. I will visit this one again!

Great location for a secluced private getaway from everything!
This was a great property with magnificent views. It is a long way from anywhere. The location is outstanding nestled between some ragged desert mountains and there are no close neighbors. The property management company was also responsive and did fix a couple things pretty promptly (same day).
They also provide you a lot of information, which I really suggest you read in full before setting off (I didn't!)
The only thing that let this property down a little was the fixtures and fittings, it is a relatively new build, but it does have the feel that most things inside the house were from a thrift store. They would benefit from investing more better beds, pillows, mattresses and I'd recommend they replace everything in the kitchen with a complete new set from top to bottom as most was old and mismatched / incomplete.
I would however highly recommend.

Polar vortex 2021
We visited the property during the polar vortex event that put Texas in a deep freeze. The weather & power loss across Texas provided for some challenges. But communication with Daryl was great. The home has fantastic views & is so peaceful. We saw mule deer & a gray fox from the sofa. Stay at this wonderful house, you will not regret it.
