About this lodge

Situated in Sierra Nevada, this attractive lodge for $399 per night is a great choice for your next trip. Highway 190 leading to Camp Nelson is now open to all visitors although there may be delays up to 30 minutes due to continues road repairs. Located in the Sequoia National Forest, Nara Lodge is a 2,262 sq ft home with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and a game room that includes a large sectional for lounging, TV, pool table, ping pong table, record player, records, and board games/puzzles. It's a perfect setting for family vacations and get-togethers with friends. There are TVs in every room, central heat in the main cabin (the game room is heated with electric heaters), newer furnishings, and enough beds to comfortably accommodate 11. We are located less than a mile from the Camp Nelson Meadow, the Camp Nelson General Store, Pierpoint Bar & Grill, the Camp Nelson Conservancy, and Nelson Falls RV Park. Nara Lodge is named after the city of Nara, Japan and just like in Nara, Japan we consider the deer here to be sacred. They are free to roam the grounds and they take full advantage of that opportunity. It is not unusual to wake up to deer in the yard or to go to bed with them in the yard. We have plenty of wildlife as the forest is our backyard. There is a deck attached in the front of the house that faces Slate Mountain and one in the back that will let you escape into nature. The backyard deck is furnished with a dining table that seats 6, a seating area for 6, propane fire pit, and outdoor heater. In addition to the deck, there's plenty of flat ground around the property to enjoy outdoor activities, games (cornhole), nature at its best, and spectacular views of Slate Mountain. All rooms are located a half floor up and the front entry is up one flight of stairs. The primary bedroom, the “Slate Room,” has a king bed and a ¾ bath attached. Next to the primary bedroom is the “Bear Room” which has three twin beds. The “Deer Room” is the third room which has a queen bed and faces the side yard the deer use daily. The living room has a lounge couch that turns into a full size bed and the “Game Room” has a large sectional with a full size pullout bed. The second bathroom is a ¾ bath, has a washer and dryer, is located on the ground level, and has a door leading directly outside. The bathrooms are stocked with hand soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, towels, and washcloths. All of the bedrooms have TVs with YouTubeTV, Hulu, and Netflix. Streaming services are also available on the living room and game room TVs. The dining room has seating for 8 with an expandable table that seats up to 10. There are place settings and utensils for 12. In addition, the kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, a blender, mixing bowls, baking dishes, cookie sheets, cooking utensils, a microwave, cutting boards, knives, a toaster, and a Keurig coffee maker that makes single cups and/or pots of coffee. We enjoyed our time in Camp Nelson. The property was clean, comfortable and in a very fun area that allowed for tons of hiking, playing in the snow & and walks around the area. We would gladly stay at this property if given the chance again.

Great place, April was fantastic in communication and brought extra clean towels for our large group. The pictures don’t do the place justice! Very nice, extremely clean, comfy beds and good quality sheets, towels blankets. Kitchen fully stocked. Only thing is a extra fan is needed in the Deer Room. All other rooms have ceiling fans. This room got very stuffy and could use a fan. Pull out couch bed in living room was firm but comfy. We didn’t try the one in game room but the huge couch was great and fit our large group. Highly recommend!

Extremely well kept place, but what is most important is that the game room is a completely separate wing of the building, so the kids could be as loud as they’d like. We came during winter and had a perfect sledding hill in the back as well. Highly recommend! Deer seem to love hanging out as well.

Our stay was so amazing! The host was in constant communication before our stay to make sure we were well prepared. When she says the forest is her backyard she is not kidding! So much wildlife to see! The house in itself is beautiful and it was perfect for our trip. We didn't want to leave!

We arrived to find a scene many have only witnessed in a wildlife photo—the backyard of the cabin filled with deer grazing. The owners have supplied renters with everything needed to have a wonderful and memorable vacation. The home has a large game room with billiards, a record player and a large sectional couch. They also have a flatscreen television in every room. They’re located only a short drive to see some of nature’s amazing Sequoia’s including the Stagg Tree which is believed to be one of the oldest living giant Sequoias. We would highly recommend staying at the Nara Lodge and gain a lifetime of memories in a few short days.

We had an amazing stay. Plenty of room for all of us, 8 to be exact and our 2 dogs. April was very helpful from the beginning offering great advice on where to visit. She was quick to answer all our questions. She even had someone drop off new ping pong paddles when we found one of them broken. The kids loved the deer, they were able to feed them apples. We would definitely stay again!!

This was a great place for me and my girlfriends to get away. We got to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the wilderness, yet we had the luxury of staying in a home with all the amenities plus more. The game room with the pool table was the best place for us to hang out, sing, drink, play games and be silly.

Nara Lodge is a wonderful place to spend time in the Sequoia Nat'l Forest. I especially enjoyed the backyard with deck, grill and open spaces. The pool room is spacious and encourages group gatherings to play ping pong or billiards. The lodge is spotless. Wonderful experience.

Everything was perfect at this lodge. Everyone including owner and visitors from the nature were friendly. The owner was so responsive, and explained in advance what to be careful, including pet related policy. The newly renovated game room was just perfect with many games stocked, fully stocked pool table, and LP player and records! The kitchen was fully stocked with cups, plates, pots, silverwares, utensils and wraps foils. The out door grill and patio gas fire pit were perfect for bbqs and smores and star gazing. Only thing that was missing was dishwasher, but it did not bother us at all. Deers visited us multiple times which was a plus:). If you want a quiet nature get away, this is a great place to be.
