Great hostel in downtown Chicago. Close to the lake, museums and park. Walkable with easy public transportation. Stayed in the 8 ladies room. The room roomy with 4 bunkbeds, lockers (lock not provided), shower, toilet and dual sink all separated. Could use a deep clean.
Kitchen available for cooking with plenty of room for refrigeration. Good hot basic breakfast every morning. Coffee and tea wasn't always available. Occasional group dinner provided with social activities.
Walking tours with local volunteers was very informative. Many international visitors.

Great as always! Why go to Chicago Getaway when the service here is excellent and the facilities are excellent.

i didn't stay there - they said i didn't have a reservation and said i cancelled it - even though i showed them my reservation confirmation on phone - and i could NOT get a hold of anyone at hotels.com - so i lost my money and had to stay somewhere else

Comfortable stay, plenty of bathrooms and shower room to use when common is not available. I like free breakfast on the second floor.

No hot water for early morning shower on one of my four night stay. No grace period for check out (if you don’t check out by 11 AM then you have to pay one extra day’s rent; did not allow check out at 12 noon). Only one working elevator that is too slow.

Trans inclusionary. The room was clean. Lockers are provided but byo lock. I was in a room with 8 beds, 4 of which were filled. Roommates were courteous. Unhoused encampment next to the hostel.

It is an excellent, safe, and great location. I will return on my next visit to Chicago

The staff was very friendly and helpful. I love all the events they put on for the guests. The room was a great size and clean. The bathroom and showers were always clean.

My stay lasted 3 nights and I was allowed to check in early which was amazing since I had arrived at 8am. The bedrooms are spacious despite having eight people total in one room. Hot water was amazing and this hostal provides soap. The water does run out of the shower area so be careful when coming out. The beds were soft and clean and so were the pillows. I would just ask for the heat to be turned up in the room because even with the blanket, I felt chilly. Breakfast was good! I liked the option of fruit, eggs, bread, muffins and toppings :).

Fantastic experience at my first hostel. It had everything we needed and I will definitely be back.

I assumed a 4-person dorm room would mean sharing the bathroom with just three others, but that wasn’t the case here. There was no mention of this on the booking page. Room was quite large, but has limited space for personal belongings.

Clean, and very nice. The bathrooms were super clean and everything was up to date and it was just a very good experience overall. It was quiet even for being next to the train. I was surprised how quiet it was. Would book again.

It's always a good quality visit here.

I was at a hostel for three days and got a top bunk. Super uncomfortable. Will spend the extra money on a private room from now on

Lovely stay with really great staff and facilities inc free tours and trips which I wasn't expecting (unfortunately I had booked and paid for things before heading out so couldn't do them ☹️). Shared bathroom did get a bit ick between cleans but that's on the other guests and not the hostel

This was first time staying here or even something like and it was right for the price guess its like being at summer camp sharing a room. Only issues was the floor i stayed on only one shower was working so would go to another floor to use the shower. Also elevators where slow. May stay here another time. Plus so convenient to be right in the city for the price. Breakfast was simple but did its job.

Very cool place to stay at in the middle of Chicago. Nice staff, clean, ok breakfast and neat the heart of Chicago. You need ear plugs because the train outside is very noisy. Would stay here agian.

Everything was amazing. The reason I only rate 4 stars is because the my room (private bedroom) Did not have a single mirror. I am a girl and a mirror is an essential for me

This was my second time staying here and this time during a busy weekend (The Taste Of Chicago). I was shocked when the prices went down. But after doing my walk through The Taste i see its nothing like it use to be. Anyway, staff at hotel were nice and helpful. I really like the option of being able to store your bag(s) for $4 up to 9pm. Very convient. Clean, quiet, peaceful place to stay. I know now if i ever need to stay in Chicago and be in the downtown area it will continue to be this place. I literally walked everywhere i wanted and needed to go. I always walk grom train station to my room.oh and breakfast is a plus.

This was a very economical place to stay in Chicago. It was very basic, but that's what you expect for the price. The elevator was terribly slow, and I travelled to the 103rd floor of the Sears Tower faster than I could go four levels in this building. Fitted sheets didn't fit the bed and came off several times each night.
The included breakfast was good, and of a standard you would expect at a Best Western.

I stayed for 3 nights in a shared room with 4 bunk beds, on the top of one bed. The mattress was surprisingly comfortable. The full kitchen was handy. The dining area had nice big windows and was a nice place to eat. I have some food allergies and didn’t try the breakfast. I might go and see if they can accommodate my allergies next time, the front desk people didn’t have any info on accommodating food allergies when I asked at check in. I didn’t go to any of the free activities but hope to next time. Was cool to chat with folks from several different countries and parts of the US. I didn’t use them but appreciated the ping pong and pool tables in the common area. Also loved the murals in the stairwell. Downtown and close to public transportation. Some other guests said they found a nice beach not too far as well.

Great hostel with many initiatives to create friendship among guests. Solo people don’t feel alone.

This is one of my favorite places to stay in Chicago but there were violent guests who didn't observe the community living codes for safety this time.

I like that this hostel is a cheap and convenient option right in downtown Chicago with good, free breakfast and many opportunities to meet new people and try new things.

Staff was friendly, lots of tours and programs for guests, nice breakfast, 1 block away from Red Line LRT train. Only drawbacks were the few homeless people who live on the same street, and that our sink was not draining properly but not fixed during my 4 day stay even after the front desk said they'd send someone up to do it that day. Overall, worth the price, very welcoming, transit friendly is a big bonus.

THE PROPERTY IS A RUNDOWN HOMELESS SHELTER, AND YOU GUYS WERE AWARE OF THAT, AND STILL ADD IT TO YOUR LIST OF HOTELS. RUBBISH!!! PURE RUBBISH!!!
2.0 / 5.0
The location of the hostel is prime. It’s easy to get to from the airport via the train and a short walk. It’s close to a ton of stuff to do. The free breakfast was more substantial than a continental breakfast and another way to save money. Was in a 4-bed dorm with bathroom and shower shared with another 4-bed dorm. Didn’t run into any problems with either being occupied when I needed them. One dorm mate never left the bunk, which was unusual, but that’s just a thing about hostels. As others mentioned, there were a couple unhoused people sleeping outside, on the same block, but not near entrances or hindering any sort of access to anything. Because it is so close to everything, it is definitely not a quiet area, so those with trouble sleeping might need earplugs or to reconsider.

I stayed in 8-girls dorm room. You got what you need, and the room is clean. This is very much like living in a student dorm.
