Note: There is no WiFi. Apologies, no pets and no smoking allowed. 138D Old Star & Garter Mews is a delightful base in the centre of Ludlow. Please note: Children under the age of 10 are not allowed. Region: A E Housman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
Town: The medieval market town of Ludlow is situated on the River Teme, amidst the beautiful countryside of the Welsh Marches. With more than 500 listed structures, the town presents a remarkable diversity of architecture including Ludlow Castle which is almost 900 years old and is one of the first stone castles to be erected in England. Today the castle is open all year round and hosts a wide range of events including outdoor theatre, gastronomy, art and literature festivals and various antique and art fairs. Below the castle, Millenium Green features a wide public riverside green and weir and provides great indoor and outdoor dining facilities via the Green Cafe positioned right on the riverside. Ludlow has held street markets since the thirteenth century.
