Had room 110, nice room but radiator thermostat was broken so couldn't turn it off so was a little too warm, other than that was nice perfect for what we needed
3.3
TV no remote receptionist came to look no way of turning on said she would return with one still waiting
Picture been ripped off the wall and just left lent up against wall
Bed uncomfortable springs sticking into body

Wanted to stay somewhere with some history and character in Scarborough, and the Grand has to be your first choice.
It's still got a wow factor with the foyer and very impressive public bar, plus the ballroom, the theatre... You will want to go and explore.
The rooms might need a little TLC, but they are very clean, totally functional and spacious. Spend the extra and get a sea view.
Breakfast is, in hotel terms, good value.
My only comment in the negative, and really this is just a personal preference is that it's possibly too hot everywhere?!
How they manage to keep such a massive old hotel at such a high temperature is beyond me, as no radiator I touched was anything other than just tepid.
To be fair, they know their clientele so maybe the coach parties are glad of the warmth!
Give it a go and remember you're getting service based on cost and you won't be disappointed!

Massive positives; view from room, location, warmth of room, price and the building which in parts is beautiful. Fridge in room was a bonus and supermarket around the corner to get in a few drinks. No need to pay the ludicrous £24 a day for breakfast as here's a plethora of cafes within 5 min walk (Brewers Faye, Wetherspoons and MacDonalds to name a few). So why only 3 stars? The reception staff were bordering on rude when I arrived; when leaving I asked if I could leave my bags somewhere as my train was in the afternoon and was told no (think this is a first!). Tried to log onto the internet in my room to find out that I needed to pay £7 a day - never managed to log onto the available free WiFi on my tablet! Haven't been asked to pay for WiFi for years! Floor in the outside corridor creaks - it was so loud that I woke up thinking somebody was in my room! Locks don't work properly without inserting the key which led to lots of folk, to be fair not realising that the key needed to be inserted, banging (and banging!) their door to make it shut. Staff obviously have a problem as my door was open on arrival. No problem leaving the door open when they cleaned the room, replaced the towels or restocked the tea/coffee as nobody came into the room to do any sort of cleaning - another first at a large hotel! When I arrived there was a bottle of complementary water in the fridge but only decaff coffee.130+ steps to the beach but there is a tram lift. I'll be prepared next time!

Great stay lovely room will a jacuzzi bath and very clean

Overall I was most happy with my stay at the Grand. Friendly staff & very helpful. I would definitely recommend this place which has had a lovely makeover. 👌
3.3
Hotel was showing its age, but the staff and the cleanliness was great
3.3
Very nice hotel full of character
3.3
This hotel is an absolute sham. Service is non existent. Genuinely the worst stay I’ve ever had anywhere.
3.3
Clean comfortable room

Our room was very good, we booked a sea view and it had a double aspect, so we had a view across south bay and a view towards the Spa. It was out of season so we were prepared for reduced access to amenities, but we were unable to get dinner in the hotel which was a bit disappointing. This happens regularly in England, you are expected to have Sunday lunch and no evening meal, time for our hospitality trade to make some changes. The restaurant in the Grand closed very early and was primarily for those who had booked a dinner package, hopefully this is better in high season.

Needs a good clean. More vending machines clean balcony up so can sit on it.
Damp smell.
Overall lovely decor, building and comfy bed.
TV signal terrible. More coffee please.
3.3
We arrived and checked in quickly which was good and had a pleasant enough chap deal with us. We were on the first floor right next to the lifts so we already knew it would probably end up being noisy. We walked in we were greeted by a strong pleasant lemon smell.
The room was bigger than I was expecting and the windows were huge and let in so much light which was nice.
After a quick look round we did notice brown stains up the wall like someone had thrown tea or coffee up them and we found paperwork from a previous guest on top of the wardrobe which was 3 months old!!
Bathroom was lovely although I think baths are outdated for hotels but no complaints there. Only negatives for us in the room were the rock hard mattresses and pillow.
Later on we went down to reception and asked for a second pillow as I am disabled and need a second for support. The receptionist was quite rude and refused to give me one which I found really bad; this is the first hotel where I have been refused a second pillow to help me!
Night one we slept fine but on our second day someone was moved into the room above us. The person in there spent all night walking round the room which made the floor boards creek and kept us awake all night. I know its an old building but the floor boards need looking at.
We also had a nail sticking up through the carpet near the bathroom so had to be careful of that at all times.
Overall was enjoyable but does need some love and attention on it.

We always stay here when visitng Scarborough.
Such an amazing building. Staff always lovely and helpful. Last 2 times we've been we've been checked in by same ataff member. I didnt get her name but she is particularly lovely and welcoming.
3.3
Terrible inedible food and the room was.... Not great either. Not a great experience
3.3
Door lock damaged. Bathroom door hanging off. Dust mites in the bad. Rude staff. Blocked sink. Paid for a room with a window but couldn’t see out of it for the dirt and grime. Never again.
Stay away from this hotel. It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful building.
3.3
Booked a twin sea view room, but on arrival told it was only a standard room as the choice on hotels.com is incorrect, and are only standard rooms. Told the room with sea views was two floors down and the lift was broken. I said that’s was no good as my mum suffered from severe copd. Given a disabled room, only given one pillow each. When I asked for another pillow informed no spare ones available in hotel given towels to use.no proper sink, no hot water. Spoke with agent for website who said as I paid with the hotel direct they could not offer me compensation, they contacted the hotel who agreed to change our room. Offered downstairs yet again declined as before. Offered executive room but at a charge to me declined. The whole experience from both sides hotel & website was disappointing, not very supportive.
It was meant to be a relaxing break for my mum, the whole room experience was a total let down. I felt I got no support from both sides. One very disappointed customer.
3.3
Rusty shower
Toilet wouldnt flush so had to use shower as a toilet. Reported and was refused a room change.
Bathroom door wouldnt shut when using toilet/shower.
Wrong type of room to our booking.
Broken/squeaky floor boards could hear when people walking around.
Room not cleaned properly as waste paper(looked like blood) left on the floor.
Old fashioned key the size of a ruler...had to take it out all day/night with us
3.3
So very tired, even the staff looked tired and dishevelled. Room ok, breakfast awful. A once great hotel, (the architecture is amazing) now sad and unloved. Great views of the bay though.
3.3
The toilet smelt like raw sewage, we didn't feel safe enough to brush our teeth .TV didn't work, toilet was enclosed in a small gap in the wall that my slim partner could barely sit on let us woman with curvier behinds.
We understand it's an old building so the inside wasn't great build wise but for the price it's just not worth it at all, the maintenance of the beautiful exterior just isn't even looked at in the interior.
Plus such a huge hotel, no parking, we had to park a 15 minute walk away and carry our luggage.
Only good thing we can say is at least it's close to the town centre.
Also don't suggest drinking there, dirty glasses, doesn't taste like the pipes are clean, we thought we'd sit on the terrace for the view but we had people screaming around us, kids running into us, people throwing lit fags on the floor, watched one poor little girl step on it barefooted.
The reception staff were lovely though, I'm sure they're used to a lot of abuse from guests because of the failings of management which is a shame because they were very helpful and kind - although the woman we spoke to on the phone was quite rude and abrupt and actually hung up on me after I asked where to park as she said hotel has no designated parking- but again she's probably used to plenty of abuse for things she can't control or do anything about
3.3
Awful horrible hotel, rooms no windows,
3.3
👍 Good: The room was a good size and it seemed clean.
👎 Bad: The bathroom was disgusting and dirty, as well as the plates, mugs and glasses at breakfast. The fruit served at breakfast seemed quite out of date, and the cereals tasted like paper.
Also, they were supposed to give us 50% of the NCP local parking, but when we went to pay, the discount wasn't applied and we had to pay the full price.
3.3
I loved our room 102 up on the first floor.
(Only one flight stairs from ground floor) so extremely good if you have bad knees like my friend and I, though there is a lift). with seaview and balcony, though it would of been so much better if the balcony doors opened and you could go out onto the balcony itself. The balcony doors only opened a fraction because of a door wire key lock. That said there is a lovely huge terrace overlooking the bay, does need quite abit of tender loving care but all this maintenance cost spondoolies eh!!!. All the staff in every department work really hard here to keep everything running smoothly, I hope the management looks after them well to keep the incentive going. Staff are all very friendly and polite. We came in just after 1am and there were staff still cleaning and hoovering the ground level seating area. It must be never ending.
3.3
Suprised by how it looked inside , not run down like thought . Room's were nice enough but sea view rooms are not that great due to the filthiness off the windows outside due to seagulls and becsuse of single pane windows kept us awake all night . The entertainment room is a bit outdated and the lift and stairs also . If it wasnt for the seagulls i think it would of been a pleasant stay and would there again due to the location
3.3
Run down
3.3
The breakfast was terrible. Watered down juice. Hard eggs, hard sausages. Luke warm everything else . Manager at breakfast was not friendly, acted like we were a nuisance.
Dirty window sills with dead flies in restaurant
3.3
A very historical place indeed ..
3.3
Absolutely shocking. Booked a standard double no window upgraded when we were there to a ‘CIty room’ as that’s all that was offered to us nothing else so I paid £20 extra when arriving. I informed the hotel on email a day before arriving I had 2 kids with us and explained 1 is sharing the bed with us and 1 in a travel cot which we provided. When arriving we checked into our room which was no bigger than a tiny box room so we had went and spoke to reception which we were told we ‘only’ upgraded to a city double. I had explained we were only offered that and nothing else and had already told the receptionist. They then give us another room when I arrived into the room it was 2 twin beds when I had already explained 2 previous times that my daughter was stopping in a bed with us. They then proceeded to argue even though we had proof of us informing them via email we got put into another room and by that point I was really sick of going downstairs so just slept in it. But was like sleeping on a brick was the worst experience I’ve ever had in a hotel.
Don’t waste your money.
3.3
The bath room wasn’t clean stunk like fish and no ventilation it was too hot very claustrophobic
To was very rubbish
3.3
Very old property, not maintained well. Not worth the amount what I paid.
3.3
Room next to function room so music was going on till midnight and couldn't get to sleep. Stains all over the walls. Rude staff. Shouting and arguing till gone 4am. Will never stay at this hotel again and I will never recommend either.
3.3
Some off the staff very polite
3.3
We booked for 3 nights and I think they should come nd replace the coffee, tea etc.
3.3
The room we were allocated had a bathroom door that had been badly damaged and the lock and handle was hanging off,so it would not close. When they tried to repair it the wood dust was over the floor. They moved is to another room which had a badly cracked shower tray. Windows were filthy and nesting seagulls kept us awake most of the night.
Staff on the desk pleasant but understand the failures of the building. I was only one of several asking move rooms.
3.3
The stay the room and the hotel was ok would have liked to stay in hotel for a few drinks but nightly entertainment was a bit naff tbf had to go out because of that
3.3
Overall stay was good stairs down to sea front at side hotel could do with a clean as a lot of dead birds and bird droppings and very unpleasant smell
3.3
Room was lovely and clean. Staff provided more tea and coffee for our room when I asked straightaway. Security checks before you can enter the hotel.
Only bad point was how worn some of the furniture was.
3.3
Staff were very helpful and could nit be faulted, however. Our shower in room 223 had no hot water on Sunday morning and there was dog mess on the stairs on the way back from our breakfast
3.3
Waited over an hour to check in. The checking in time could’ve been moved earlier as there were a lot of guests attending a concert nearby. The room was old fashioned. The bath, beds and toilet had hair in them. The bed was very uncomfortable and we were woken at 01:30 by someone knocking from somewhere for almost 5 minutes. £140 a night is a rip off and breakfast wasn’t even included.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Llandudno a few days earlier, Scarborough Hotel is far Superior.
