The location and size of the house was perfect! The proces to book it was simple. The views are amazing. Couldnt ask for a better experience!

We had a heavenly week on Trout Lake in Sunset Cottage. We were a party of six with four young adults and two of us on the older side. It was a perfect cottage for three couples with nice private space for each along with ample common space both inside and out. We made good use of the boat, kayaks and passage boats and spent lots of time fishing. The hardest decision each day was which level of the deck to sit on. We swam, hung in the hot tub, visited by the fire and enjoyed amazing meals with farm fresh meat and produce. The hosts were incredibly responsive, warm and welcoming. We how to return!

Our family had a great time on the lake. It was great weather for paddle boarding, kayaking and using the boat. The house was clean and roomy enough for 5 of us. The deck was the best part. All in all, we would definitely come again!

Perfect vacation at Sunset Cottage. Property was beautifully designed and immaculate...all amenities as advertised and great communication with the owners. Kayaks, paddleboards, and the pontoon boat on the beautiful lake kept us busy along with hiking and sightseeing in the Thousand Islands. The sleeping porch was extraordinary...really unique feature. Dinners and sunsets on the multilevel deck...never got old...Everything we were hoping for!

My wife, two children, and our old dog had an amazing time hiking, fishing, swimming, boating, and hanging out having quality time and making memories. The cabin was perfect and the location was incredible. The hosts were gracious and easy to deal with and everyone on the lake made us feel like locals. The hiking trails and waterfalls were within 20 - 30 min drive and family friendly. The rocky islands on the lake were fun to explore and leap off of into the water which was clean, clear, and the perfect temperature for swimming. Kayaks and pontoon boat were perfect. TV and wifi worked great for lounging at night and watching movies. Water heater worked great. Easy, fun, and would definitely go back.

We had a great time staying over a long weekend with family for our daughter's graduation from SLU. We wish we had more time to just relax by the lake.
While there I enjoyed listening to loons, whippoorwills and seeing an amazing amount of Trillium along the gravel road. A good hot tub followed by icy plunges in the cold May lake.water was an amazing experience.

What can I say other than, amazing!! Let’s start with the location. Picturesque views of the lake from the hot tub. My wife and I had a no stop fire going inside. The cottage is very cozy with all the compliments needed for a nice getaway. Oh, and let’s not forget the included pontoon boat!! We trolled the lake countless times. I will definitely be coming back!!

A wonderful property and location. We paddled, boated, cozied up by the fire and soaked in the hot tub. The rest of our time was spent cooking, eating and playing games. Great family weekend together!

My husband and I stayed here the last week of August with our dog. We had a fabulous time. The lake is crystal clear and absolutely beautiful. John and Donna are excellent hosts and were very responsive to all inquiries. The bathroom has been newly renovated with a stackable washer and dryer in a newly created covered area right outside the back door. Very convenient for the beach towels and wet clothing coming off the lake. Fishing was excellent with the biggest fish of the week caught from the dock (approximately 4 1/2 lb large mouth bass)! Kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans and utensils. Beds were VERY comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!!

First vacation, with only us. No grandparents, cousins etc. Love you all but it was great to be at trout lake with just my wife and 4 amazing kids.
Highlights:
Molly (11) won the fishing contest, with 6 fish caught. Fire master
Gunner (10) kayaked to, and climbed all the cool rocky islands, and lipped all the fish for the first time! Wood reloader.
Clare (6) kayaked for the first time and got great at casting. No fish though. Lol S'more master.
Abby (9 mo.) took her first steps in the living room!! And was a trooper the whole time. Loved the hot tub and the boat rides!
Mom and Dad had a blast and just basked in the love and memories that were made!
Highly recommended!

This is a very peaceful beautiful place to really get away from it all! Make sure you bring life jackets for anyone who will use boat or kayaks - they are not provided. Also suggest you do grocery shopping before you arrive as the closest grocery store is 25 minutes away. There are two convenience/camp stores for basics such as water and ice. This cabin was perfect for two of us. I think 4 or 5 people would be comfortable but more would be crowded. It was an enjoyable relaxing stay. I would recommend.

It was a very nice place. Not alot of room for dogs. Seemed like we were only ones tying up our dogs.

This property was absolutely heaven I was supposed to come with my kids and grandson but we added a new member of our family and they couldn't come ...myself my mom and my boyfriend enjoyed the property and had some family come visit for a day. The sunsets were beautiful when we had sun, but even the cold days didn't stop us we used the hot tub and did some diamond art and when it was nice we enjoyed the boat and the beautiful deck. We will definitely be back

My wife and I stayed at Sunset Cottage for a few days during a trip through the Adirondacks to celebrate our anniversary. The cabin was perfect for us! It's clear that a lot of love went into the development of the property, most evident in the amazing multi-tiered deck which is cantilevered out over the rock face and provides numerous sitting areas and vantage points of the lake as it leads down to the water/dock. The pictures do not do it justice - truly spectacular. There are a couple of old pictures on the wall that will give you an idea of just how much work went into the development and restoration of this camp. The hot tub was clean and properly heated. I will note there are no overhanging roofs, so rainy weather will probably keep you from enjoying a seat on the deck.
Inside is just as nice - the A-Frame construction allows for massive ceilings in the great room, but the vibe is cozy and comfortable, and the amenities are modern. The temperature was chilly outside at night, but the fireplace insert is incredibly efficient - we never had to rely on any of the space heaters. Plenty of well-seasoned firewood in the shed out back. The kitchen is small, but open and functional, and the grill worked flawlessly. I will note that the shower stall is cramped and the fixtures could use a little TLC (leaking) - but it was functional. It's a tradeoff for real estate with the washer and dryer in the bathroom - not a big deal.
The location is the best part about this property. Neighbors are not far away, but the property is heavily wooded and felt very private. You'll need 4WD to navigate the driveway down to the cabin, but there is also parking at the top of the hill. Trout Lake is surprisingly large, and the pontoon boat provided a nice tour of the lake. The east side of the lake is largely undeveloped, which does a lot to preserve the sense of 'forever wild'. The lake is QUIET - or at least it was when we visited at the end of September. The only sounds were the hoots of the owls, cries of the coyotes, and the occasional Loon call. Very peaceful and relaxing.
If you need to grab household supplies or some essential items for cooking, the 164 Main Street Market is a great little spot and just a 5min drive from camp. They serve breakfast sandwiches' and fresh food as well.
This is an incredible camp, we really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back.

Our trip was everything we expected and more. House was perfect for 6 of us. We didn't want to leave and could have stayed all week if we could. The pontoon boat, hot tub, and fire pit really make this house great

We are a family of four (2 adults, 2 teens) and we immensely enjoyed every moment of our stay at Sunset Cottage. The home was immaculately clean, plenty of dishware/cooking pots/pans, extremely comfortable beds and linens, and there was plenty of space in the living areas for us. The lakefront location, decks, and dock provide epics views all day long (& the sunsets!!!!!). We took advantage of the nice days and used the pontoon boat almost everyday- exploring the lake, fishing, and just enjoying the sunshine. My kids fished off the dock and used the kayaks & paddle board. The hot tub was wonderful too! And on a couple rainy days we played scrabble, cards, and did puzzles (all in the game cupboard!). A couple of things that didn’t phase us a bit, but are worth consideration;
1. You need to bring your own (or buy at local stores) potable water as the tap water is not drinkable.
2. The driveway is definitely steep, but short and there are ample parking spots at the top of the driveway. Perhaps don’t drive all the way down to the house without checking the drive first to ensure your car/truck can get back up.
3. Shower is small for bigger/taller people. But good water pressure and nice and hot!
A really lovely place, so peaceful and beautiful. We certainly wish we could have stayed longer and would heartily recommend it to family and friends.

Cozy cottage, fabulous outdoor decks for playing, grilling, dining and basking in Adirondack/Trout Lake beauty. Filled with quaint memorabilia and lots of options for indoor and outdoor entertainment. Wonderfully hospitable and responsive hosts. Thank you, Donna and John!

Overall, the cabin was great. Very cozy and nicely decorated. Kayaks and paddle board were a bonus. Location was great as well. We had never been to Trout Lake before and really enjoyed the lake.

Overall the place was decent..We enjoyed kayaking and roasting marshmallows by the fire. The place was in a good location and quiet.. Couple things I would like to say, this house is not meant for 9 people. Maybe 4-5 adults. Thankfully the weather was nice and people were able to stay downstairs with the screen porch but if it was raining or cold it would of been miserable. Bathroom is also very small. When we arrived there was a ant problem too. Unfortunately the A/C wasn't working and it was very hot that weekend. Later on that night when we had the fan plugged in the outlet also stopped working. The bedroom downstairs mattress needs to be replaced, we were sinking in the middle of it. When arriving the cabin was not numbered well , which made it difficult to find. You need a 4×4 vehicle to get back there.. The front door didnt shut.. Small things like that is why I gave a this place 3 stars. We received a claim filed against us for a broken hotub cover and lamp. Not to sure what happened there, no pictures were sent to us or a message regarding it.

We traveled to Trout Lake to escape the Texas summer heat and had a most awesome stay at the Sunset Cabin. We brought our two tween/teen boys and they had a blast using all the amenities and especially enjoyed the screened in porch bedroom. This was a perfect location to stock up on groceries and spend a few days just being together and enjoying the beautiful lake. The house had everything we needed to accommodate our stay and we’d love to go back!

My wife and I decided to have our wedding at Trout Lake because her family had a cottage there and had spent time up there when they were younger. We searched for the right venue and found the perfect spot, the Sunset Cottage. We held the ceremony on the second level of the deck overlooking the lake. It was absolutely beautiful!!! The fall colors and the sun shining off the lake made the perfect setting for our wedding. The cottage fit our 15 dinner guests and made for a great evening.
We then spent the remainder of the week at the cottage. We were able to get out on the Boston Whaler and take tours of the lake and see the other homes. We spent time on each deck and enjoyed a hike in the woods down to the lake overlook. We were able to use the wood fired hottub in the evenings. It was a perfect place to relax and look up at the stars.
The Sunset Cottage was a great place for our wedding and I would recommend anyone who wants to relax and enjoy a great vacation to head up to the Sunset Cottage. This place is perfect for families or several couples looking to getaway! We will definitely be back!

When we drove down the drive to unload the car, everyones faces lit up at the first glimpse of the lake, deck and house. Our kids, 11 year old daughter and 14 year old son went straight to the water and the kayaks while we unloaded the car. They came back an hour later and said this is the best place they’ve ever been too. To put it in perspective they have been to London; San Francisco; San Diego; Outer Banks; Florida – they’re comment was pretty staggering after only being at the house for an hour. We all repeated this comment several more times during the week.
We let the kids have the sleeping porch, which added to their enjoyment of the place.
Yes, there were a few cobwebs up high in some nooks, but for heaven’s sake – you are in the woods, what would you expect. The house was very clean, and ready to move in.
Our cell phones worked fine, I have AT&T and my husband has Verizon. It’s clear on the lease agreement the sheets and towels are not provided and that the phone is local service only.
The beds are extremely comfortable. The house is decorated wonderfully. The water in the lake is crystal clear. It was wonderful to swim and play in the water – nice sandy bottom. Our yellow lab was in the water more than the kids!
We had a fire in the fire pit every night. The wood fired hot tub was fun to play around with. Once you get the fire started, no need to keep the wood box filled to top, the water got a little warm the first time we started it up.
The boat was fun to cruise around the lake, but the kayaks are even more fun. I don’t know if I should be glad of this or not – the kids want kayaks at home now! We would kayak/boat up to Turtle Rock – you can see it up the lake about 500 yards. Our daughter loved climbing up the rock and jumping off.
Everyone was very friendly. Donna and John came over, by boat, our first night to check in on us.
Our friends have seen our photos on Facebook and said their blood pressure dropped just look at the photos. It was the most relaxing vacation we’ve ever had.
We were pleasantly surprised that there were no mosquitos!!
There’s not much to do in the area, which is exactly the way we wanted it. One rainy day we drove into Canton the St. Lawrence University bookstore. Very cute place. You can get a fishing license from Wood’s Family Grocery in Edwards.
I can’t say enough good things about this rental property.

I was rather disappointed, first It does say on the website that it does not give linen or towels, but sadly it was a part that I did not see. When we arrived the phone did not work and our cell phone had no signal. It really is a nice place, but we thought it could have been cleaner for that price a night. The lower bedroom had dust on top of the blankets, and the bars of soap were not wrapped and looked like they had been used. The small bottles of shampoo looked like they had been used also, they were half empty. The ice maker was not hooked up and we did not know this, my husband turned it on and it made noise all night. The freezer had old bags of ice in it . The ceiling windows and fans had cobwebs. Only local service for the phone once it was repaired, and we had to go get a phone card. The kids enjoyed the kayaks the second night, that was a plus. We gave this a poor rating basically because the phone didnt work and they weren't real clear on the towels and linens. He did offer to bring them the second night but we got back to the cabin so late and we had already slept on the bed without the sheets, I felt it was stupid to get them. My husband used the sink too before we left and the faucet was not even attached to the sink in the kitchen. They did give an apology and suggested that it would have been better if we had booked a room at there B&B. Well if the phone had worked the first night, I might have called and tried to change it. The B&B was beautiful and well taken care of, we had stopped there to get directions to the cottage because I could not pull up the email on my phone, no signal. They assured us that our staying there provided them with a learning experience, and that they will take care of what was wrong with the place. I would never have booked it had I seen that it did not come with towels or linens. I booked it strictly cause its a pain to rent two separate hotel rooms, and I thought it would have provided a better experience for my kids.
