Selby Knoll Guesthouse - Lake Coeur d'Alene
Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'
Set in a majestic forest on a gentle knoll overlooking the south end of Lake Coeur d'Alene, this esthetic guest house provides a serene, natural experience just a few miles from all the recreation Harrison and greater North Idaho have to offer. Recently re-opened after a partial remodel and in its fifth year as a Vacasa rental, this simple, tasteful retreat is nestled deep in a conservation easement owned by the original homestead family off a quiet, county-maintained gravel road with no neighbors in sight. There are no neighbors, and the connected manor house is not open to the public - when in residence, the owner's family is respectful of your privacy and serenity.
Your guest house was designed for privacy from the adjacent manor house. The great room lets the towering forest view come into through carefully arraigned windows and skylights. One step outside brings you to an outdoor room, a spacious deck dappled in sunlight and shade throughout the day, great for bird watching and occasional game sighting, dining, reading, or just plain lounging. An acre of park-like towering forest glen just off the deck is for you exclusively, and a path leads down to a satellite deck with filtered views up and down Lake Coeur d'Alene. Encounters on the property with white-tailed deer are common, plus moose, elk, and black bear sightings from time to time.
Influenced by the Prairie Style, your guesthouse is simple and functional, with red oak floors and granite kitchen countertops and furnished with an uncluttered Asian-influenced esthetic reflecting the owners' many years overseas in the Far East. The large great room has the kitchen, dining, and socializing. Completing the main floor is the main bedroom with a bed under a Javanese wall carving and the recently remodeled bathroom with private forest views. The basement affords access to the main floor and the washer/dryer.
WHAT'S NEARBY
At the end of our road few miles to the south, lies Idaho Fish and Game's Round Lake Sportsman Access. A few miles to the north on a scenic lakeside drive is Harrison, with a marina, general store, dining, antiques, a premier ice cream parlor, plus comprehensive aquatic and cycle rentals, all on the portal to the incredible Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes. Farther afield is all the four-season wonderland of North Idaho has to offer with its lakes, rivers, National Forests, and world-class bike trails and parks.
THINGS TO KNOW
Due to the woodland location, the paths are un-improved and steep in spots.
Everything in the home is to code, but there are porch and deck areas with no railings.
Wood fires are not allowed inside or out to protect our family forest and respect our wildlife. Use extreme caution when using the gas grill.
A flight of steps is needed to get to the main floor from the parking area.
The managers of the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes restrict public access to trailheads, so the closest trailhead is in Harrison.
If you are bringing a dog on your trip, the pet fee is already included in your quote when selecting ‘Yes’ to pets. If you would like to add more dogs, please contact us. The pet fee is per stay and ranges between $150 and $200, depending on the bedroom count, and will apply for each additional dog.
Parking notes: There is free parking available for 2 vehicles.

(A discount may be applied for stays of 28 nights or longer, if permitted.) The Damage Waiver fee eliminates the need for a traditional security deposit.

A lovely setting among tall pines, a beautiful comfortable house with amazing light and art. Everything you need for a relaxing, restorative time. We stay at a lot of VRBOs, and this was the best by far.

This place is fantastic for a quiet getaway and Harrison is just 10 minutes away if you need some groceries. The main room is expansive and decorated with great taste.

This house is gorgeous. It's a really lovely setting in the trees just above the lake. The house is really lovingly and uniquely decorated. The beds were very comfortable. The house is nice and quiet and you can sleep with the windows open and get fresh air. All the amenities were present and easy to use - coffee maker and laundry facilities worked great. I would love to stay there again!

Beautiful property surrounded trees above the water. Abundance of wildlife and no noise outside of the boats on the water. Really peaceful getaway.

We came here as a getaway after the passing of my husband. It was a wonderful setting for the children and I to just check out mentally and relax. Loved the location and the amenities. Highly recommend this property if you need a place to clear your mind.

Our stay was wonderful & we appreciated all the little touches you made for our comfort - but you overlook one BIG problem. There are 2 large Hindu god statues on either side of the bed; along with another one in the living room. These are often accompanied by demonic presence(s). Having experienced this before, I travel with Catholic Holy Sacramental objects and prayers; and was able to banish any demonic creatures from your house. Thereafter we had a peaceful stay.
But our daughter refused to stay there. She has seen people become possessed by a demon (and need a Catholic priest for exorcism) - and so she is very nervous about such things. I assume you (like most people) are unaware of all this; and so I wanted to let you know.
But I would still recommend you get rid of those statues. Demons return to where they are displayed & welcomed; and (speaking from experience) to be awakened by one in the middle of the night can be a terrifying experience.
God bless you, & kind regards, Attorney SF

Absolutely loved everything about this property. It was such a pleasant stay in a perfect setting: enjoyable outdoors views and indoors windows were most loved by me. Thanks to the property owners and all who helped make this an ideal few days for Jim and me as we celebrated our 54th! We did not see the owners but I am sure they would have been delightful. They get an automatic rating of five stars.

My wife and I were very excited to spend our wedding anniversary at Selby Knoll Guesthouse. When we arrived we thought the location was remote and beautiful. We loved all with windows in the guesthouse! When we arrived my wife went to take a bath in the advertised 100 yr old clawfoot tub and was surprised to see that it wasn't there. However the replacement tub was large and inviting. When we went to fill the tub the water was yellow. Very yellow. I suspect it was just iron in the water but my wife was concerned. We emailed the address we were give for problems and no one ever answered. So, no long hot baths for us! We purchased bottled water to drink and cook with. I highly recommend that if this is normal that you address it in your listing so people know. When we went to cook a meal we found 2 frying pans, both teflon pans were severely damaged and scratched and both were dirty, as in dried food on the edges on one. It isn't safe to cook in teflon when there are deep scraps and scratches in the pans. Then we discovered ants. Mostly in the kitchen and near the twin beds in the living room. These things combined really put a damper on our getaway. It's a shame because like I said the location is very beautiful.

Hunting was good so we actually left two days early! Too bad we couldn’t get money back but enjoyed the stay.

This property was easy to rent and when we had a couple of small issues they were addressed quickly. The location is stunning and fairly remote. Cell service was not available on property. The kitchen needs additional pans, dishes, glasses, and utensils. New chairs and a better set up for the television would make this location a 5 instead of a 4.

Plenty of natural light, beautiful living area, well designed & spacious—a pure delight!

The Japanese art collection was the first indication of a purposeful relaxed space. The inflatable moose over the refrigerator deflated any thoughts of pretentiousness. Our only regret is that we didn’t have more time there. We saw our first wild turkey up close, strutting right past us like he didn’t have a care about the impending November holiday. Also a mother and baby deer rested just a few yards from one of the many windows. If you are seeking solace or writing your first novel, this is the place for you.

Gorgeous home
This is a beautiful guest house furnished with lovely treasures. The home had everything we needed for a great stay. Be aware that it is an hour from Coeur D’Alene. If you want to enjoy the lake and feel like you are staying in a lovely home in the forest, you will enjoy this place.

Beautiful views
Very nice views it was a clean house but it is definitely off the beaten path do not expect any grocery stores nearby, make sure to bring your food with you, the house is nice pool would've been better if it had a few more pots pans and a comfortable couch to sit on to watch the lake

Long weekend
The property was great and easy to find with the directions. The perfect place for a long weekend get away for the 2 of us. The only complaint would be that the kitchen could use a better selection of pots and pans and a lot of unexpected fees added to the base price.

So beautiful and peaceful, can't wait to go book again!!!
Better than advertised, the guest house is beautiful! Do not let the fact that it is attached to the main house, privacy was not an issue, loved the location and the asian decor!!!..ten stars..lol

Very quiet and peaceful
The home was beautiful. The main problem we had the home heat had been turn so far down when we arrived to indoor temperature was 40 degrees. We were able to get the heat on, but took over 4 hours to get the home warm enough to take off our coats. If you are renting in the cooler months of the year be sure to ask if someone has turned up the heat. Plus there was a bad Ant issue. There was a lot of Ant trap placed around the home, but didn't seem to help much. One last issue for those who are vertically challenged like my wife who is five foot tall. The mirror in the bathroom is very small and is placed to high on the wall that she could not use it. There is only one other mirror in the home that I had to take off the wall for her it use, because this one was also placed to high for her to use as well. Other than these issues we had a good time.

Terrible
The only pan was not clean, with baked-on crud that hadn’t been scrubbed. The refrigerator made squeaking noises. There were ant traps out and so the owners knew the place was infested with ants. The only toilet was crawling with them. We took video and pictures and had to vacate the premises but they refused to give us a full refund. It also took a week and a half to get a response, with me constantly calling.

I would recommend.

Great stay outside Harrison, ID
This is a great property in a secluded location with filtered views of the lake. The interior is beautifully decorated in an eastern theme and is very spacious and comfortable. The outside grounds were also very welcoming and private.

Beautiful house and location
This was a tastefully decorated guest house, adjoining the owners' house but very private. Private entrance, deck, etc. Quiet location, comfortable and relaxing. Overall it was fairly clean. I do wish there was a little more in the way of kitchen cookware. Also, I did write to ask a couple questions through the app but never got a response. I found my answers another way, so it really was not a big deal. Would definitely stay again. Beautiful three day weekend in a beautiful location!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Guesthouse. The photos do not do it justice. We loved the bright and open living area, forested setting and lake view. We look forward to a return stay.

My favorite vacation getaway so far!
My kids and I went to the guesthouse for a getaway and it was perfection. Views of the lake from the kitchen window, amazing interior decor, amazing nature around. We loved our stay, and enjoyed popping into the nearby town of Harrison - small but had a cute little library, antique and boutique shop, coffee shop (the Tin Cup), etc. we will be coming back for sure!
I do want to mention that this guesthouse is attached to a larger home. The owners created amazing privacy, but one whole end of the main home is visible and somewhat nearby one side of the guesthouse. However, all the windows in that part of the main house are nicely screened off for privacy. I didn’t see a photo of this, so wanted to mention it as it took me by surprise, but wasn’t bad.

Beautiful guest house surrounded by tall trees with a view of the lake. The many windows brought the outside in. Very serene and quiet.
