We had a great stay! . The house was cozy, the ocean views abundant, the house clean and comfortable, the location was perfect for us; serene, close to great restaurants, breakfast and ice cream shops. Quiet, relaxing and just five minutes from the beach. Gerald was a great host available at any time to chat! We’ll be heading back for sure!

We absolutely loved our stay! Most perfect spot in all the Highlands! Cozy, convenient and fun sums it up here! We loved being able to walk everywhere in town, we loved the openness of the house, we loved the outdoor spaces- coffee on the deck of the kitchen, wine all the way up top on the rooftop deck to watch the sunsets and fireworks (it was 4th of July) and the owner Gerald was so easy and nice to work with, absolute perfection! The property was better than advertised for us. Comfortable, great location. Nothing too fancy, easy to relax in. Plenty of good restaurants to talk to. Sandy Hook close by. Didn't know Highlands, NJ well before this, but really enjoyed it. You can see the ocean, and the river from the top deck. Our host, Gerald, could not have been nicer. Communications easy, check in easy. Extremely helpful with recommendations. My only regret is that we didn't get to hear him play the saxophone! There was just two of us, in our mid sixties. There are 2 bedrooms on separate floors each with its own bathroom, plenty of privacy. Kitchen is more than adequate but we ate out most of the time. We were there over Labor Day week end and into the week after that, enjoying the beginning of "Locals Summer" . Easy to get to NYC via the ferry which is about 1 mile away. This was a jewel of the Jersey Shore

Beautiful home on the water

My husband and I decided to visit Highlands for a little vacation away from the city. My husband, myself and the pups loved this little beach house. Pictures are accurate. It’s a cute beach shack vibe with lots of local amenities nearby. Thank you Gerald for the amazing experience.

The pictures do not do this perfect beach house justice! You can not beat the location and view from the three decks! My first time staying in the highlands although I visit sandy hook frequently and it was everything I could have hoped for (even in the rain)! Thank you, Gerald!

Property was very clean with great views. Restaurants within walking distance. Loved watching the boats go in and out of the bay. Property manager was great to work with-very nice.

We had a great (although too brief) stay at this gem of a house overlooking sandy hook NJ beach. It was clean and had an amazing rooftop deck perfect for lounging with a coffee or a glass of wine. There are restaurants a plenty within a stones throw and the beach was GORGEOUS. The owner was so nice and very responsive. We would highly recommend it!

My wife and I and our good friends along with their little one spent a long weekend in the unit. The property is in a great location with dedicated parking. We were only a few minutes from Sandy Hook and also drove south to see red bank and point pleasant which were not too far off. The property is close to lots of great restaurants and coffee shops that we visited as well. The house was clean and had what you would need to live in it. Gerald was responsive and helped us with all of our questions. All in all a fantastic location, close to beach, and fantastic food options nearby. Thanks for sharing you home with us!

We had a great beach stay. House is a great base to explore. Sandy hook is lovely and see bright is too. My teens loved being in the center of it all. House is clean and comfortable wit a fantastic host! Would recommend.

The property is in a great location. Two good restaurants across the street, several others within a few blocks. The Bay Avenue Bakery is a block away and is a delight. Snug Harbor Beach is less than a mile away with parking and free access. Sandy Hook Island Bridge is only a few blocks away with the National Park on one end and the community of Sea Bright the other direction with at least two great restaurants (Tommy’s Tavern and Rum Runners). The public beach in Sea Bright has parking for $1.00 an hour with an online app to pay or an onsite attendant. The cost for the beach is $8.00 per adult and only cash is accepted. The beaches within the National Recreation Area of the Island are extensive with plenty of parking, restrooms, showers, chair and umbrella rental, security and food trucks. There are several must see sites nearby. The Twin Lighthouses and St Michael Scenic Overlook are a couple. Our adult children live in New York City so the SeaStreak Ferry was a great option. The Ferry Terminal from Manhattan is only a mile away and only takes 45 minutes compared to a two hour one way drive and over $45 in tolls. There is a beach next to the ferry terminal called the Sandbox with food trucks and entertainment on the weekends. The property itself was disappointing. It needs a lot of TLC. The grass hadn’t been mowed for a long time and was from 8 to 14 inches high and with weeds over 18 inches tall. They had overgrown part of the narrow driveway so we were always brushing up against them to get around our car and to the stairs. The stairs in front leading to the main entrance were overgrown by an English Ivy tree so we had to duck down to avoid the sharp prickly leaves. The furniture is fine except in the living room. The chair upholstery was almost completely gone with what was left peeling off and dropping on the carpet. The sofa was the same, but had a partial cloth cover. The coffee table was in bad shape and the carpet throughout the house had a lot of fabric pulls that gave the place a dilapidated feel. There were plenty of towels, but no hand towels or wash cloths. The bathrooms were very nice except the shower curtains had a lot of mold. The kitchen cabinets are white so the dried food and other stains on them were obvious. We had to clean them before using the kitchen which is very well equipped. The gas stove was great and is equipped with a grill. There is much more to say, but I am out of my allotted space.

Gerard was an amazing owner/host! Responded immediately to any issues and was a great guide to local hot spots. Relaxing ocean breezes, LOVED the decks, and thoroughly enjoyed the ability to walk everywhere.....even into Sandy Hook. The Inlet Cafe, Proving Ground and Chubby Pickle were wonderful spots not to mention the hot bagels just up the street. GREAT first time user of VRBO-would definitely recommend!!

We enjoyed staying at this property. Having never been to Highlands before, we loved being in walking distance to many great restaurants (with live entertainment!), food trucks and convenience stores for the staples. It was hot and covid times (outdoor dining only) but were still able to enjoy ourselves. It was a great weekend. Also, I will say that being we stayed during covid - the house was very clean and was thankful for the information on how the owner cleans the house and keeps windows open between guests. There's a small beach within walking distance which did not get crowded at all (plus for me)! And (without traffic) we were a few miles from Sandy Hook & Sea Bright beaches. Gerald was a great host, answered questions extremely quickly and directions were very clear. Will stay again when we need a weekend away!

Gerald was an awesome host, from before we even arrived through our entire weekend. He was always available and ready to help! The location was prime for a great summer stay! We were there for a wedding a couple towns over but wish we could have spent more time in the highlands!! Beautiful views from all balconies and rooftop and plenty of room for guests :) would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone ! Thanks again!

This home is in the middle of it all! We have family in the area and so know it well. You can sit on the deck and listen to nightly music at the Proving Grounds (don’t worry... not too loud,) and also are a stone’s throw from our favorite restaurant around - Inlet cafe. You can walk to Sandy Hook so it’s free, but if you want a beach day, I’d drive. Too many other great places to eat and play within walking distance. Most are dog friendly. Gerald is incredibly responsive. He checked in on us a couple times but not at all intrusive. He was flexible with our check in/out times since the calendar worked. He also made sure to give us each a key. Wonderful vacation.
