Unit is run down, dirty and in need of repairs/upgrades; torn couch cushions, dirty curtains, duct taped A/C in living room only, ceiling fan in living room didn’t work, fan in bedroom noisy/dangerous and missing a blade, no closets available as they were filled with stuff. Ants in kitchen, kept everything in refrigerator. Mold in tub/shower. Common areas; pool, ocean front grass area, bbq, lounge chairs well kept. Unfortunately not the unit didn’t live up to the advertised pictures.

Upon arrival I was disappointed with the condition of the condo. Not represented as the pictures. The property is in a great location. We had a rental car which offered us the opportunity to explore everything Maui has to offer. If you are a couple looking for a nice place to celebrate a 70th birthday this is not the place for you.

We so enjoyed our stay at Nani Kai Hale, it met and exceeded our perfect Maui stay. Tony was great to deal with, Steven was so helpful, and all the residents and visitors were super nice. Made some great friends! We hope to get to stay there on our next visit to beautiful Hawaii. Dave and Kathy.

If you're looking for a place in Maui directly on the beach with a nice pool but you're on a budget, this is the place for you. It's on a beautiful beach with awesome sunsets. The patio on the beach has tables, BBQ grills and lounge chairs. There is also a very nice pool. If you're looking for a luxury condo this is not it, the place could use some updating but if you're staying inside while in Maui, you're a fool.

Overall it was a good stay. The Vrbo listing did not have the unit number and when we got there I tried to call the owner with no answer. Had to actually call the property to get the unit # The unit was clean except for tiny ants in the kitchen. There was not food or anything there for the ants though. Great access to the beach and on site pool. Overall it was amazing

After searching for quite a while to find reasonably priced accommodations I was stoked to find Tony's condo. I had read previous reviews stating that the unit is a little older and hasn't been updated so I expected that, it was honestly in better shape than reviews made it sound. It was extremely clean and in a wonderful location. The condo has everything you need for cooking, it also has 2 bathrooms! The location is perfect, you are close to both sides of the island the island and there is a store, farmers market and a sandwich shop within walking distance. Tony really went out of his way to make our stay extra special since we had been good guests. My partner and I found it incredibly comfortable! Don't expect a 5 star resort but if you're on a budget this place is perfect.

This little condo is right on the beach with a private pool and viewing deck of the sunset.

The photos are of the unit but must have been taken long ago. All insect screens are ripped. Master bedroom has two bandaids to cover one of the larger holes. Not sure why they decided to use a bandaid to patch screen windows. Sofa has holes. Bedroom TV has tape on the buttons and does not work. Baseboards missing and don’t appear to have been cleaned in between bookings. Curtains are filthy. My son went behind them and came back covered in filth and dust. Outside of the unit everything else was great. Location, beach, building, everything outside of the unit was beautiful. The unit itself is terrible.

We were very pleased with the condo. Needs updating and deep cleaning but nice accommodations for the little time we spent there. The location and view were awesome! Enjoyed every minute. Our host was accommodating and answered all our questions in a timely matter.

The property the unit is on is beautiful and well kept. The unit 306 is filthy and unhealthy. I took photos to show the filth and repairs needed. The photos on VRBO must have been taken 30 years ago. NEVER recommend this unit.

Quiet and beautiful sunrise at breakfast time and sunset every night from the balcony.

The location is nice. The pool, grassy area and beach were the best part! The condo was old, could have been cleaned better (sand on floor upon arriving, shutter style closet doors disgusting with dirt and grime) but it did have a full kitchen and two baths. I wish they had put a little more money into the beds. In the king bed you felt every move and it made noise that woke you up. The sofa bed was saggy and uneven causing us to put our heads at the wrong end. Since you basically just sleep there, it would have been nice to be comfortable and get a good night sleep. With all that being said, we paid hardly nothing for our 12 nights and we had a great vacation exploring the island!!

First of all the manager was friendly enough, but the property was in major need of updating & repair. We arrived to a dirty condo, but was told that the housekeeper's son was ill so we were OK and there was a monetary valued refunded. Bathroom sink in 1 bathroom did not work and the kick board at base of both bath cabinets was worn and broken. TV in bedroom was a tube tv that I didn't even try using. No remote available for it. After reading other reviews dating back 2 years ago with the same issues, we realized the owner did not care about the property. We also found out it was on the market too. It served it's purpose and provided a place to lay our head and shower and eat.

Loved view. Close to stores and beachfront

Enjoyed the easy access to the beach right down stairs. Got to watch a luau that was next door and a couple weddings. Slept so peacefully with the ocean and wind blowing.

It’s a great spot, located at the coast of Sugar Beach yet it’s close to Wailea, a 30 minute drive to Lahaina, and close to stores like Walmart, Target and Costco. The condo is spacious, the kitchen has pots, plates, and utensils, it has A/C, a balcony, tv, and of course the patio where you are able to cook and grill, has a mini fridge, tables and chairs. The only issue we had was opening the door. The key is a bit bended and we struggled every day to open the door. There were little ants by the couch area but they are harmless, could easily be solved with pesticide. Besides that, it’s a great spot to stay while visiting Maui! Excellent pricing for what it offers.

Selected this property for the price and the location. The location is great. Was never given the actual unit number or how to get into the room. The owner of the unit gave security information to my aunt before I had officially added her to my reservation and without any verification which makes me nervous about how safe this location is. There were no sheets for the pull-out bed but my daughter and I used the extra blankets in the closet.

This place is an awesome location for walking and swimming on sugar beach. You can go 3 miles in either direction. The condo has access to a shared sitting area beach front which is beaufully maintained. With BBQ and chairs and umbrella and a clean pool. The condo bennifits from 2 full bathrooms and a kitchen with a good variety of utensils . From the balcony you have a side view to the pool and the ocean and the event house next door to watch a Lua for free !! However the property definitely needed an upgrade. The AC was rusty and noisy but did work... just.. The doors had chipping paint.. But it was clean. After a couple of beers we didn't notice the paint ! Make sure you have the combo code before you arrive. We had a anxious time waiting to find out after we arrived. Thanks to Stephen who manages the complex he gave us the code. The location for us was perfect and so we had a fabulous time. Mahalo.

I don’t generally spend a lot of time in my room, but the time I did, it was very quiet and relaxing. The lanai /balcony has a view of the ocean and it was quite nice to enjoy my morning coffee there. I’ll be back.

The location and building we stayed at were very nice. Well kept grounds, nice public areas and wonderful beach. But the unit we stayed in was very dated. It was cleaned before we got there, but there is no way a cleaning can hide the fact the walls need to be painted, the popcorn ceiling replaced, and just a general updating needs bit take place. The appliances seemed to be out of the 60s. All the plates and other cook wear appeared to be brought in from the back of a thrift store. But with that being said, most everything worked. The 1 square foot capacity microwave did reheat a cup of coffee and make a bag of popcorn. And who knew Black and Decker made a microwave! The freezer made ice, and it had the modern “plastic” ice cube trays. I also didn’t know they still have working tube TVs, but this unit has 2 of them! Too bad the bedroom tv wouldn’t connect to the cable box. Could have called the cable company, but hey, dealing with the cable company would have just been too much of a good time. The king size bed was ok for comfort. I would not stay in this unit again, but would stay at the building. To be fair, the owner has this unit as a rental, and the price is low for a place on the beach in a nice location.

This unit needs upgrading. Price is OK but I would have rather paid a little more for a modernized unit with upgraded appliances and fixtures.

The worst experience I have ever had. Manager harassed us accusing us of having extra person in unit. Dirty unkept, fridge leaked, many items did not work including the TV. Condo manager said “that’s Tony”. Very bad experience. I would never rent this condo again. Manager made promises and never came through with anything. I have pictures that are astounding. If I could give this no stars. There were reviews that I should of read before I booked.

This condo is in a fantastic location right on Sugar Beach in Kihei. There is a wonderful grassy area with chaises and umbrellas between the building and the ocean where you can sit and enjoy the sun. Sugar Beach is a beautiful, long, sandy beach that is perfect for swimming. The condo building has a large, heated fresh water swimming pool. The condo is roomy with a full kitchen, living/dining area, separate bedroom with a very comfortable king size bed, and two full bathrooms which is a fantastic feature. Tony, the owner, is very personable and helpful. He is always willing to talk with you and help with any problems or concerns. We really enjoyed our three week stay at Nani Kai Hale and would love to vacation there again. Thanks Tony for everything!

Check-in directions were frustrating. The owner prefers to communicte by telephone. The owner sent me the code for the unit- when I asked for the number of the unit, he resent me the code again. I had to add phone data to call in order to learn what the number of the unit was. The owner was in the hospital when he ansered my call, what if he had been unable to answer the phone- not sure what back-up he had/has for renters to his units. He was pleasant on the phone and offered some local tips. The actual unit has never been renovated and it is certainly showing it's age. His cleaner had been in as the sheets, towels and bathrooms were clean. However, it does not give the feeling of clean. The baseboards have been removed, so the walls near the floor are dirty, The kitchen cupboards do not all close properly and the kitchen counter top is badly damaged with nicks. The fridge leaks inside. There were no kitchen linens, however the owner did respond quickly to that request. A large painting from the bedroom was sitting on the floor in one of the hallways. Items such as lamp, toaster did not work. We could not figure out to get the WIFI and TV (tube TV) to work at the same time. We never got the tube TV in the bedroom to work. My holiday time is not a time when I want to become an IT technician. There were no guidesheets or binder in the unit with information such as the WIFI password or access number to the pool area. The owner did respond with the WIFI password via VROB messaging. Learned via phone call of fine for losing the only key to unit. I was disapointed in the unit and via VROB messaging communicated that to the owner. He did offer me some alternatives- such as staying in another one of his units, leaving and if he could rent out the unit, refunding me some money. He stated I was getting a bargain re the price I was paying. I don't know what the units rent out for, I'm sure some go for way more than what we paid. However, I did learn of one that would have cost the same as what we paid and it had been renovated. I did not receive his offer until we past the halfway point of our stay. We choose to stay. His sister was to check the unit after we left, I have received no message on any rent adjustment. Good points. The location is great- right on the beach. Building is well maintained, pool and grass area lovely. Other residents/guests were friendly and we really enjoyed evening sunsets with them.

After several attempts to contact the owner, we arrived in Maui still not knowing the number or procedure for check in. We had a exhausting 10+ hour flight and were very tired. Finally our daughter in law was able to get in contact with the owner and get the number of the unit and check in procedure. In the mean time, the owner did call us to say we would need a small pointed object to insert in the lock box after we used the code number to get the key out as the last person who rented the place had "trashed" the lock box & the condo! He also said to leave the key in the lock box (we would be charged if we lost it). We were not given access to the key for the deadbolt! From the photos to the written description, this unit is not as advertised! We should have left immediately. Instead we chose to stay...This was to be in celebration of our 50th! After I finished crying, we went to the store and purchased disinfecting wipes, pillows, linens, towels, paper towels and a coffee pot among other things as I would not use anything in this condo! We encountered, unlaundered towels & bedding! Bedroom smelled of body odor so we kept that door closed & slept on the fold out sofa for 2 weeks. We sat on paper towels because the chairs were so filthy! A uncleanable frig handle, rusty freezer shelves, missing vinyl base was in the closet waiting to be installed but painting needs to be done first...advertised as freshly painted. Ill fitting drapes on filthy windows, dirty glass dining table and mirrored wall. Dirty tub but the cleaner of 2( you could not access without crawling between toilet and tub as sliding door would not open on the other end). A filthy dirty floor! A very old loud, rusty, stinky, amazingly working air conditioner dripping all over the dirty lanai and down the side of the building... This unit is a disgrace! I hope it does not represent other units at the beautiful Nani Kai Hale property. A similar negative review prior to ours was not on the VRBO site until after we got back home! There is truly nothing anyone could have done to correct the neglect and misrepresentation of this property. It should be removed from the VRBO list immediately. Then DEEP CLEANED, painted and renovated before renting to another unsuspecting customer. The owner was nice & offered a significant discount on a different property when we return. No Thanks. Can not recommend this to anyone! Needs a lot of work!

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the cleanliness and disrepair of our condo at Nani Kai Hale. The window air conditioner was old, loud, and dripping onto the lanai. The three portable fans were dirty and insufficient. The baseboards everywhere were filthy and coming off the walls. Bathrooms and kitchen needed complete updating. The sliding glass door could not be opened to the lanai. Both TVs were outdated and did not work. Although the owner, Tony, was wonderful in his understanding, apology and giving us two bottles of wine for our inconvenience, I believe it necessary to report that the photos did not accurately represent the lack of proper maintenance of the condo. All of this interfered with our comfort and enjoyment of our stay. In contrast, the location of the resort in Kihei was central to our explorations of the island, making it convenient and easy for visiting restaurants and shops. The grounds and pool of the resort were well kept with lounge chairs overlooking the beautiful Sugar beach and ocean. All in all our condo fell way short of being acceptable.

I received a phone call 2 days prior to going to Maui from the manager stating that VRBO under quoted the price of the room and that the amount of stays I had selected wasn’t enough days bc he said he requires a 7 night minimum and I was only staying 5. So, I had to pay him $125 cash in addition to what I had paid through VRBO. Never expierenced anything like that

Superb location- spacious apartment with stunning views. Everything provided to make this the perfect location for a stay at Sugar Beach. Excellent value-we would definitely return!
