This is our second time staying in Far Niente. It's by far our favorite place that we've stayed at. The location is quiet and close to town. Perfect for a quick run to a grocery store or dinner. We were there for Acadia National Park, which was a short drive away. The cottage itself is quaint and welcoming and had everything we needed. John was very communicative and was a truly great host. We'll be back!

We could not have asked for a better house to stay in that accommodated all of us, and all of our needs, and with the bonus that it was the cutest place that I have ever stayed in. In our group was myself, my daughter, her best friend, my father and his small dog. it was perfect and every way and the perfect homebase for our Acadia trip. John was an exceptional host and was readily available for any question, Recommendation or need that we had. I would absolutely stay here again and would recommend his home to everyone that I know, visiting Bar Harbor! Hope to be back soon

Seriously cannot say enough about John. He went above and beyond before during and after our stay! We came for the Eclipse and there was not a whole lot open in the area but we still enjoyed it so much! Don't hesitate to book! Thanks for everything John!!!

My husband and I had a wonderful time. This little cottage was great. The ocean is just a short walk away and everything in Bar Harbor is quick car ride. The host is very attentive and helpful. He even sent us a list of restaurants (we went in the off season so some places are closed) that were open and near by. The kitchen had everything we needed. It was comfortable, private, and clean. We will be going back in sure.

This was our second year coming here and we absolutely loved it. John is extremely communicative and made the check in/check out process very easy for us. The cottage is very cozy and extremely convenient to get to the park and into town!

This cottage was perfect for our Anniversary getaway - in a quiet neighborhood but very close to the Hulls Cove entrance to Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor. John was an attentive host offering ideas for activities and restaurants. The cottage was very comfortable and had all of the amenities needed. We will definitely stay again!

Far Niente is a beautiful well-kept cottage in a great secluded location. John is the consummate host and a wonderful person. Stay in this home and you will not be disappointed! Highly recommended.

We loved the cottage! It came with everything you need, including basics like toilet paper which was appreciated! It was very clean and convenient to Acadia as well as Bar Harbor.

My husband and I and our dog stayed with John for the last week of September 2023 and it's a truly special place. We needed both bedrooms since sometimes one of us snores -- and they're both very comfortable. Everything about the cottage is beautiful, compact and well thought out. John's very responsive and kind when you need anything and his house keeper keeps it very nicely. Practical advice to anyone late in the year using the "outside" bedroom -- be sure to start the heater a bit before going to bed to give it time to warm up. Also, if you're bringing a dog, be sure you're prepared in case your pup is not comfortable going up and down the spiral staircase. I wasn't planning on letting her use it at all, but she followed me to the loft once when I thought my husband had her and I had to teach her how to get down. Of course then she comfortably had the run of the house with us all week, but it's something to think about. John's a great host with a lovely property to share.

We loved our stay at Far Niente. The space worked we for our family of four, with school aged kids. We appreciated having a full kitchen, as it was nice to enjoy some low key meals after big days full of activity. The deck is a lovely and relaxing spot. The host was easy to communicate with and gave great recommendations for meals and hikes. Thank you!

We thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic cabin just a short walk from the rocky coast and the beautiful waters of Maine. Having a separate cabin for one bedroom worked out very well for us, and the deck between the two buildings with the table, chairs and grill got a lot of use. There is lots of nearby walks and the new Bar Harbor Lobster Pound nearby was our favorite spot for seafood and hanging out in their wooded seating area with live music. We love visiting MDI and Acadia, and this centrally located home made it very easy to get anywhere on the island in less than 30 minutes. Thanks John.

We had a wonderful stay at this property. The cottage had everything we could need and was comfortable for all three of us. The kitchen was well appointed, and I was able to cook meals with ease. The back deck surrounded by ferns and bird songs was particularly lovely. We loved it, and we would stay again in a heartbeat.

The cottage was comfortable and relaxing after busy days in the Park. Very convenient to Acadia and Bar Harbor, with well equipped kitchen for eating in. John was helpful and easy to communicate with. A new washing machine was installed days before our arrival. Thurston's lobster pound is a must! Would definitely stay here again.

We loved our stay! The house was adorable and had everything we needed. It’s perfectly located near bar harbor and the park entrance. But at the same time away from the buzz of downtown. We could come home after a long hike and enjoy a nice glass of wine in your beautiful porch and garden. We felt like we were in the middle of the woods. My teens loved the loft and we really enjoy the detached bedroom. It felt like we were in a tree house with green all around. We would love to visit again. What a cute and amazing cottage! It's like a magic portal that's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside :- ) And it is decorated and arranged in such a way as to utilize the space perfectly. Quaint? Homey? A wonderful getaway? How can we best describe it? My wife and I stayed here with my parents in June 2023 and it was just what we needed. Close enough to Bar Harbor that we rode bikes back and forth. Quiet enough that we never heard a sound from the neighbors -- except when we were taking a walk via the peaceful, safe, and quiet road that goes right by the water and around the block. John was an amazing host. Most highly recommended!

This cottage was the perfect home away from home! Very quaint but had everything we needed to be comfortable. Close enough to Bar Harbor but far enough away from the bustle of the little town. Very close to Acadia National Park which we spent many days visiting. The owner supplied us with much more than we expected including many suggestions of what to do, what to see, and best places to eat and drink. Perfect getaway!

John’s house is perfect for easy access to the park and Bar Harbor. We were in the park within 5 minutes and on the carriage roads for our daily morning walks with our lab. It’s a sweet home that not only has charm, but is very well outfitted. Although in a neighborhood with houses nearby, there is a nice private outdoor deck. I loved the added sleeping cabin- as a peaceful place without all the lights of the various tv/modem etc that rentals always need to have. (And yes, the wifi connection and television options were excellent) John was an excellent communicator! Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us and allowing our dog to join us for an outstanding week of hiking in Acadia. I highly recommend staying here.

My boyfriend and our dog stayed here and it was great! Low key neighborhood, great for walking the dog and taking her to the beach which is a short walk away. Reasonable distance to town too. The place had all the basic amenities we needed andnit was a cute and cozy cottage. Ideal little getaway for April.
