Everything went smoothly with the owner and arriving and we loved the location and the size of the place, however there was no air conditioning and the adobe rooms got very hot and were difficult to cool down.
We intended to stay longer but ended up leaving early.

At the end of a narrow alley, the casita is well located within the historic area. Sharing a small patio area with the housekeeper, Debi, and her family made our stay interesting and satisfying. Debi was most helpful and responsive to our various needs.

Cute place decently located near Santo Domingo.
Clean. Well equipped. Fun energy.
On site manager is kind.
No hot water. Very low water pressure. Barely comes out most of the time.
Contacted the owner and she took 3 days to respond with a ‘oh-well’.
Neighbors park their motorcycle right outside the bedroom window where you and they can hear everything happening.
No AC.
Overall if they can fix a few of these issues it would be a great place.

Lovely stay. Great location, comfortable space, quiet at night, calm and relaxing. Close to everything.

The home was located in the historic district of Oaxaca however access to the city is easy and a quick 15 min walk. Upon arriving the home was not ready it was no issue we left our luggage and arrived to a clean house. Devi is a sweetheart and will go above and beyond to make the stay comfortable. We did run out of running water however a phone call and it was right back on. It may bother some however if you have travelled into Mexico these type of things happen. Overall it was not the Ritz but a very comfortable place to Kay your head at the end of the day.

This property was not described truthfully on its listing. It is down a steep street too narrow for a taxi. The route to the market, supposedly a block and a half away, was also down an even steeper street. The owner knew we were both in our 80s and could never bring in food.

Devy was helpful and made me feel welcome
I don't have any criticisms or suggestions maybe one more light outside so when you are out at night I t is easier to put the key in the lock Thanks.

Devi is fabulous. She will bend over backwards to ensure your stay is perfect.

Just a few blocks to the gorgeous Santo Domingo & the Alcala, the pedestrian walkway that takes you to the Zocalo about 6 blocks away. I was a little concerned about walking down this alley at night until I did it & found that it was completely safe. The alley location was nice & quiet. Only on Saturday night did we hear a bar playing obnoxious music until way too late. The rest of the time was peaceful. No dogs barking & even the neighborhood rooster slept in until 9 AM. Devi the on-site housekeeper met us on our arrival. We speak passable Spanish, but we still don't know what she was saying about a switch out in the garden & how to use that in the event of no water. The water faucets did run dry at one point, but we were out of the house most of that time & water had reappeared when we got back. Devi also told us we had to run the hot water faucet for 15 minutes before hot water would come out of the shower head, which was baffling that we would be expected to waste so much water. It actually only takes about 3 minutes to get hot water in the shower. Take a look at the water heater by the washing machine & realize that you will not have as much hot water as you do in the US. A 5 gallon bottle of drinking water was provided, & when we asked Devi for more, 2 more bottles appeared. One thing that surprised us was there is no cooling system besides the ceiling fans. In mid-March, it was already warm enough that it was difficult to fall asleep. We opened the bedroom window when we went out for the evening & that helped cool it off quite a bit, but in the afternoon, it was pretty warm. We didn't notice any heating system. I'm not sure the bed is actually queen size. I am always worried about letting someone else do my laundry because I think they will put my clothes in the dryer & shrink them, but Devi did a great job, line-drying & folding our clothes. We were sad to cut our 11 day trip short by 4 days because of coronavirus & concern that the US border would be closed or we would be put in quarantine. There is so much we still want to do & see in beautiful Oaxaca. Despite the few issues I noted, we will want to stay in this casita again because of its quiet location & value. We especially liked being 2 blocks from Calabacitas Tiernas, a wonderful vegetarian restaurant. We would recommend that the owner leave directions in English about things like WiFi, drinking water, waste disposal, hot water, toilet usage, possible water shortage.

We found this casita to be the ideal place to experience both the "real" local Oaxaca and the core of the center city. In the immediate surrounding blocks are the colorful Sanchez Pascuas market, an artisanal bakery/cafe, and a wonderful (mostly) vegetarian restaurant & organic market. Mornings and evenings we enjoyed being amidst local residents engaged in their daily routines. At the same time, we were just a couple of blocks from the primary pedestrian street lined with notable sites, popular shops and restaurants and leading into the Zocalo.
The casita itself includes a spacious, comfortable living room/bedroom space and a full kitchen with dining room table & chairs. Glass sliding doors off the kitchen open onto a greenery-filled courtyard with a wrought iron table and 2 chairs.
The housekeeper, Devi, is right next door and is as sweet as can be. She speaks only Spanish, but communication worked with a few phrases, gestures and "Google Translate."
We found this to be a warm and homey "anchoring spot" for our Oaxaca visit.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The location was very convenient. We had a nice walk down to the walking street and found everything we needed close by. Devi was very helpful. The new curtains were nice and gave us privacy. Lots of space and comfortable for two. It was quiet except we could hear music at night. The tourist booth in front of the market was helpful as well. We would stay again.

Great value for the price. The neighborhood is interesting, with diverse small businesses. The proximity to the mercado is a plus. Devi, the staff, helped us a great deal and was very sweet. The rear patio was a great spot to have breakfast each day. Note that there's actually just one bedroom and it's in combination with the living room. I had to share the bed with my friend, which took getting used to. If you're looking for a 2 br space, you'd probably need to rent a second casita from Cathy.

The house was relatively quiet considering the central location. The caretaker was attentive and washed our clothes on her cleaning days. It was safe and comfortable for our small children. We were very happy with our stay.

The place was very clean and had a warm shower. The location is wonderful to the center, however the construction that is going on next door starts at daylight and goes until late at night. The host is easy to communicate with and very helpful with tips on getting from the airport to the house. i would recommend this place!!

Had a great stay here for Guelaguetza. The place is walking distance from the events and nicely located down a safe and quiet alley.

We stayed here for three weeks and enjoyed each and every day. The casita is directly on a dead-end alley where, for the most part, cars are not parked. This is a studio apartment with two large rooms. When you enter there is a nice leather couch (pulls out) with an end table and lamp, a wooden cabinet and a small table and two chairs. The bed is in this first room and is very comfortable. There are two bedside tables with lamps and a large armoire for hanging clothes and empty drawers for everything else. There is a good sized kitchen with modern appliances and plenty of food prep tools, cooking pans and dishes. It has a full sized table and six chairs in the kitchen. There is plenty of natural light and a small patio next to the garden with a table and chairs. We often enjoyed coffee in that spot in the morning. Bathroom with shower is clean with plenty of towels. Our on-site person, Debbie, lives in a small casita in the same small complex. She cleaned twice a week and did our laundry. Debbie does not speak English but we did fine with Google Translate. She is a sweet girl and was available to help us in any way we needed. There is a great market about a block from the casita where you can pick up nearly every food items you need. Also, there is an awesome bakery two blocks away and several good restaurants and coffee shops very close. In short there is everything is within walking distance. A extremely important feature is that internet access is very good for Mexico. I would highly recommend this lovely little gem to anyone wanting a clean, convenient and comfortable place to stay in Oaxaca.

Casita Toronja isn’t fancy but was a great choice and pleasant base for my Oaxacan visit! The casita is a moderate sized two room house; with the bed and sitting area as you enter and the full kitchen (minus a blender) and dining table occupying the other room. You are provided clean water with a large tippable water jug/bottle for your daily use. The WiFi was secure and reliable which I greatly appreciated..(I didn’t watch TV, so I’m unable to comment.) Even though I was there in January, the days can get warm and in turn the casita heats up. Having the overhead fans made that short time period during the day more comfortable. During the evening when Oaxaca cools down, the casita is stocked with extra blankets to keep you warm at night. Debbie (the caretaker) willingly but needed to help me with laundry (the setup is different then what I was familiar with) and even hung them up on the clothesline. We managed beautifully; though she spoke no English, I spoke a LITTLE Spanish, we used hand signals and the translation on my tablet to aid in our communication. This casita is located in a more residential neighborhood, which means it is quite at night but has typical workday noises in the morning. I would recommend this casita to others that are planning on visiting Oaxaca!

I stayed in the casita and found it to be a wonderful and comfortable stay...I agree with all the other positive reviews and not sure what to make of the one negative? As in the pictures all was in working order and nothing was broken. I enjoyed the location being able to walk to zocalo and food market near was great for cooking meals had modern appliances and Kitchen needs. New TV , wifi..will come back soon!

What you see is NOT what you get. This is not " new", but a very tired and uncared- for property. The casita was filthy on arrival, eg. floors full of sand and coffee grounds left so long in maker that they were covered with mould . Bathroom was clean, however. Rectified later when cleaner arrived later in week. Kitchen cupboards were mostly off their hinges, sink stoppers were both broken, toilet flushed poorly, some stove burners not working, lack of cooking essentials, and the list goes on. Water ran out twice during the days as did propane for hot water and oven usage.
Complete lack of privacy - large uncovered kitchen window looked into other building on premises..courtyard unkempt , shared and full of daily hanging laundry. One small wrought iron table and chair to sit on, not comfortable enough to relax or read, especially with occupants of other unit always watching.
So bad, left casita in mid-stay to go to hotel, despite having pre-paid in full.
Saving grace was the marvelous Pablo, who helped us out in scorpion crisis, brought a few essentials including sink stoppers and gave us the most amazing tours outside the city. We recommend him highly ! And....despite all this, we loved Oaxaca and would return!

Stayed here for the month of December 2014. The house is very well equipped for a comfortable stay...... little things like shelves in the bathroom, door hooks for clothes, empty dresser drawers, kitchen utensils, wifi, etc.
There is actually one bedroom with an additional pull out couch in it. The house is roomy, lots of natural light. Once we got used to the routine for the roof water tank and bottled drinking water, our stay was extremely pleasant. Pablo, the manager, was always accessible by phone and was a delight to talk to (English) and helpful with local information. The house was quiet (no barking dogs) and the ever-present rooster was far enough away as to not wake us in the early mornings. I recommend this casita as long as you don't book it when I want to return.

Very cute house with Mexican feel and modern convenience. We stayed with a little child for a week - the best experience ever. Walking distance to a beautiful city center; market near by.
On the down side - the water in the laundry machine is a little rusty, and all white clothes got yellow. Also there is no microwave. Other than that the kitchen is very modern and clean. Very secluded and nice backyard, and grapefruit trees add a nice touch.
All special requests were addressed promptly. The wireless connection speed was unbelievable good for Mexico.
Oaxaca has plenty to see and enjoy. Monte Alban and Mitla both awesome, each in a very unique style. We really liked Hierve el Agua as well, but it is harder to get to.
I would definitely recommend this place to a friend. It's a real Mexican experience.

Spent 1 week there in March 2011, with two girlfriends. Close to Santo Domingo and bus line to downtown. Great market and restaurants close by. Hot water problems but they worked on it. Would go back.
