We stayed here for our honeymoon and you could not beat walking out the back door straight onto the beach. It was even better to have beach chairs, beach toys, beach towels, etc. included so we didn’t have to bring them or try and find our own. The owner provided a helpful information binder so we could find things to do around the area which we definitely appreciated. The owner and manager were super easy to contact and were always prompt to answer our questions. The only thing we had an issue with was not having air conditioning and trying to sleep through the heat, but we are also used to a cold climate. Overall we loved our stay!!

The condo was clean an very comfortable. Had everything we needed, but our food. The view right outside the patio is beautiful , waves an beach.. Each day we sat on the beach an just watched the ocean, the waves come roaring in .. And the sunsets , OMG , beautiful. 3/4 locals, an 1/4 tourists which is so nice. The book you left on attractions, places to eat , places to explore they were all spot on with directions ect...... This place is Very Relaxing an Soothing for the soul this little hidden gem ... People were all friendly an helpful .. The furthest we traveled from the condo was to the Polyision Culture Center, 91 miles away .. It was a awesome drive... Can't say enough of good things about this Condo an this area the Condo is in... The locals are all very friendly , very thoughtful.....They look out for you .

We loved the stay in this little condo on the beach. Saw whales, turtles and had fun watching kids body surf and snorkel. Great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii.

This is a great place to stay every time we are in Hawaii. Priced well and has many things you won't need to pick up at the store. Great to see the Weber gas grill. The beach is terrific with few people and the Puka shell hunting was fun for our Granddaughter and us. If your not into the over crowded tourist areas this is the place. Highly recommend!!! We loved our stay at Makaha Beach! Walking out of our condo onto the beach into the water....paradise! Ending the day with stunning sunsets - breathtaking! The condo was a perfect beach house well supplied with kitchen and beach essentials. We’d return in a heartbeat (and hope to!)!

Really enjoyed our stay at the cabanas. Access right to the beach. Gated property, which is good. It is far from the crowded area of Waikiki, so if this is what you are looking for, go for it.

My husband and I took our granddaughter, age 15 , for a 10 day stay here. It was perfect for us! We wanted to stay away from the crowds, and we like to be able to walk out from our lanai to the beach. Perfect! From the pictures it looks as if there would be hundreds of people around, since the cabanas and the condos next door are both high risers, but that was not the case at all. Most were not occupied. On the weekends the beach is more crowded, but still way less crowded than other beaches on Oahu. Our condo was clean,comfortable, and has everything you need (except for a small cooler, which we bought and left in the bedroom closet). We snorkeled all over the island, as well as in front of the condo. Toward the big rock you see in the picture is nice! We used the outdoor grills and the washer and dryer, both located nearby. The locals were friendly, and the staff at the condo always greeted us warmly. Janis was always able to answer our questions promptly, as we were preparing for the trip. I would recommend this condo to all of my friends who dislike hotels, and enjoy staying in a comfortable, relaxing environment. Joe and Susan Mahan

Everything is exactly as described, only better. My husband and I have not had a week long vacation for 24 years when our kids were small and that vacation was anything but relaxing. We traveled to the whole island and couldn’t find a nicer beach. There was one on the east side that was prettier (maybe) but was crowded so much we couldn’t find parking. Most of the weekdays there was maybe one or two people at the condo’s beach and most of the time no one at all. The condo itself was great for relaxing. I like to read and my husband likes to plan a few activities around his naps - like in multiple. The kitchen has brand new cupboards with slide out drawers and Janis has been very thoughtful about stocking it with everything you would want to cook. We saved a lot of money by purchasing fresh fish (ahi), steak or shrimp each afternoon and fixing it with fresh produce. It’s a great way to end the day, eating local food on the lanai. Better than any fancy restaurant. The area is mainly occupied by locals and it was great! We felt welcome and safe there - so glad we didn’t stay in Waikiki. The best part of this condo is it FEELS like a home and has all those home like touches hotels just don’t have. Thoughtful decor that’s not “cookie cutter”, and is furnished with equipment if someone likes to do activities like using boogie boards or chairs to watch the sunset. Don’t think the condo is perfect.......There are a few minor things that really didn’t bother me like the screen door has a hard time locking so I just didn’t mess with it and made sure we were gentle with opening/closing - just like at home! We couldn’t figure out the tv that kept saying “no signal” but we used our lap top fine with the WiFi, I’m sure it was “operator error” and we didn’t want to screw anything up so we didn’t mess with it. Such minor things when we were there to relax and explore the island. This place was the perfect getaway and we came home with the plan of repeating this vacation next year.

We spent 10 wonderful days in this condo... It was just as we were told it would be !!! Steps to the beach is an understatement, More like step off the patio and you are on the beach.. The water was so clear and a perfect 80 degrees... We loved being out with the locals instead of the typical tourist scene... The people were so friendly and groceries and restaurants just down the street... Lot's of snorkeling gear, boogie boards and fishing equipment at the condo.. And it was stocked just like our own home!!! Thanks Janis for sharing your amazing home with us.. Our 30th wedding anniversary was more than we ever expected!!! Jeff and Ronda Langley

My family and I arrived with great expectations of the beach and condo, we were not disappointed. Being able to step on and off the beach directly from the patio was a great plus. We would highly recommend shopping for groceries and cooking in the condo. They also have a great BBQ which we used a few times.

The condo was exactly as described and really suited our needs and the purpose of our vacation which was to go somewhere quiet and remote but still be able to tour the island and do some of the "tourist attractions". It was very clean when we arrived and we were very pleasantly surprised that it was stocked even more so than described. Everything you need in a kitchen is there as well as plenty of bath and beach towels. We spent a lot of time out on the lanai and really enjoyed the view and ease of getting to the beach and into the water. It was great using the Tommy Bahama beach chairs equipped with a small cooler bag and storage for personal things like sunscreen glasses and a book. The drink holders and a cell phone holder on the side by the arm rest came in very handy and made it so easy to venture down to the beach. We enjoyed meeting and talking with a few locals who live in the building. People there, and in the community, were quite friendly. We slept great there and woke up refreshed and ready for a new day! It was quiet when we were there and it was so nice to be on an uncrowded beach. Definitely no problem staking out a place on the sand and not many people went in the water, so we felt like it was our own private beach. The pictures of the condo and the beach are exactly what you get. Nothing super fancy but it was clean and met our needs perfectly.

Enjoyed our time(December) at Makaha Condos. Excellent beach right outside the front door - uncrowded. We saw whales breach and swam with turtles and trumpet fish. Condo was as described by owner. Family had a great time playing in the waves, meeting the neighbours, exercising on the beach and travelling around the island. We also loved shopping at the local grocery stores and sampling local foods. The condo is away from the crowds which made this area even more appealing to us.(The area outside the condo does have areas that look rough but we never felt unsafe. I found that it didn't matter where you went on the island you ran into these rough looking areas.) Thank you Janice for sharing your condo we definitely enjoyed it(family didn't want to leave), if we can we would love to come back.

This condo is located in my favorite part of Oahu - Makaha. There aren't any pictures that can truly do this area justice, and and with the unit being on the ground floor you can just walk out onto beautiful, quiet Papaoneone Beach. If you have never been, just take my word for it and go there! :) The condo building is older, but the unit has been renovated. Janis has really furnished this condo nicely, with almost everything you could possibly need, including an extensive selection of books perfect for reading on the beach. One thing of note, however, is the kitchen. The area itself is very narrow and it is the main walkway from the front of the unit to the back, where the lanai and beach are located, and two people can not pass each other in the kitchen. Having said that, the kitchen boasts newer cabinets, counters and appliances and is very well stocked. There isn't any air conditioning in the condo, but with windows in the front and the back the trade winds make this place cool and comfortable all day long - and that's coming from 2 Canadians who use a/c in the winter! Onsite laundry facilities, as well as the security and maintenance staff, were excellent and Janis was a pleasure to deal with in all aspects of the transaction. The reason I gave only 4 stars was to do with some minor maintenance issues that I have been assured would be dealt with, if at all possible, within the next little while (there is an ongoing screen door problem that seems to be impossible to fix). After those items have been completed, this will truly be the vacation rental of your dreams!

We really enjoyed this condo. It had everything you needed and the bed was very comfortable. It did not have air conditioning and I was very hesitant, but with the tradewinds you did not need it. It was about a 45 minute trip from the airport but we liked it because a lot less people. It is right on the beach and the crashing of waves at night was amazing. I would give it 5 stars but the only downside for us was the locals put up a tent several night in front of our Lanai because they camp and fish all night. They were very quiet but we didn't like to sit out on the Lanai with them right there before bed and when we woke up in the morning. But it is a great find for the money. Loni and Tony

What a nightmare!! We had booked this condo almost a year before we went, It was supposed to be a wonderful and RELAXING holiday for a whole month! A celebration for our 35th wedding anniversary. Imagine our disgust and complete disappointment when we arrived close to midnight after a long day of a two separate flights, we opened the door to a PIG STY! Honestly it was horrible. (I have photos and videos for proof). There was NO way we could stay with the garbage, filth, unmade bed, dishes, food in the fridge, black hairs all over the toilet, it was really very, VERY gross. I am a Realtor and have been in the profession for 25 years, I know what is acceptable and this clearly was not even close. I did get a hold of Janis and after sending her some photos for proof, her solution was to suggest we pull out the couch and sleep there. REALLY? We couldn't even use the bathroom as it was disgusting! So off we went to find a Hotel which if you do not know the area, there really are not any! We finally did arrive at one at 2:30 am and after paying a couple hundred dollars for a few hours sleep (I have the receipt) we finally got to bed. Janis promised the Housekeeper would be done by noon the next day. So now with our next day ruined by waiting for the housekeepers to finish (It was early afternoon) we drove around with our luggage and groceries from Costco for quite a few hours. We did arrive back to a clean condo and it did then look similar to the photos posted, (except the housekeeper took most of the towels and we were left with TWO towels for a week before they were returned) Another feature Janis neglects to mention is the horrible smell in the condo, I haven't yet figured where it was coming from and what exactly it is. Also for your enjoyment, there is a yappy small dog in the condo upstairs who loves to bark each time you step out onto the lanai. Not exactly the relaxing vacation!! Over the next few days we had frustration after frustration, no internet code for our iPad/phones, then the fridge breaks down with a fridge FULL of food, the solution offered by the owner was not satisfactory at all. After getting to know the locals I guess our experience is NOT the first experience like this for this condo. I love the beach and the people, We would come back to the cabanas but NOT to this one, I am not sure how this unit has a 5 star rating!

We planned our visit to Janis' main floor condo 16 months in advance, in anticipation of our retirement after 50 years of working. All was exactly as advertised and had everything we needed to set up house keeping for 2 months from Dec 8th till Feb 8th. Loved being on ground floor and able to step directly onto the beach from the lanai. Beach umbrella, chairs, boogie boards, snorkel gear all provided for spending many days on the beach when we weren't exploring the islands. Almost like a private beach and never over crowded, met many very nice local residents and tourists alike strolling in the sand while enjoying the waves coming ashore (some days very big and other days not so much). Sound of waves was also great to go to sleep by. The guest book provided was very informative with a lot of useful info for places to visit in surrounding area. Besides all the major sites on Oahu, we especially enjoyed parking near end of island and walking to the bird sanctuary at the point, a short few minutes drive from condo. Besides albatross we also saw seals resting on shore there, very exciting! The sunsets are fantastic and the conch players each evening made them extra special. This was our first visit to Hawaii and we are happy we found Makaha Beach Cabanas!

My husband and I stayed here from Aug 24-Sept 4 2016. The view was unbelievable! The pictures don't lie, and the sunset every night was glorious. We explored the entire island and loved every minute of it. But our favorite place was the beach in front of the cabanas. Even on a "busy" weekend there was maybe 30 people there. Everyone we met coming and going was very friendly and helpful. The condo itself was nice and clean, there was everything we could have possibly needed there. Keeping the windows open in the evening cooled the place right off, and while we were there it was in the mid 80's to low 90's. The cabanas have a gated entry and the apartments them selves have another keyed entry, we felt totally safe and comfortable here. The town of Makaha itself was a total let down, but we didn't care. We liked exploring all over the island. There were no good restaurants close by, only fast food chains (we tried #1 Chinese, foul is the only word to describe it). We found the grocery stores to not be very friendly or cost effective. We decided that we were willing to make the drive to Costco and the stores a bit further down the road. That was fine by us, we could stock up on some supplies and just chill on the beach. Janis was very friendly and answered all my questions quickly! We would totally stay here again!

My husband and I just returned from a 10 day stay in this condo and it was amazing, like a dream come true! The condo had so many extras that we didn't need to buy hardly anything extra when we got there. It was so wonderful to walk out our bedroom and watch sea turtles playing in the surf, or the waves rolling in each day, and the sunset each night from our personal lanai! There is a (we think) unique set of natives that live close who give people watching a fun touch! We really enjoyed watching and listening to the group blow their conk shell blessing at sunset nightly on our beach. There was never a moment when we felt unsafe and slept with the windows and door open nightly. We took walks on the beach and went over to the cliff edge and watched the spray blow up as well. There were families there our age and we were so glad we decided to stay here instead of the much busier beaches & traffic of Honolulu! This was absolutely the perfect spot for us and we hated to leave! The people of Hawaii are a gracious, spiritual and very family oriented people and we can't wait to visit again! I miss it already! Janis - the book in the room was so helpful. We went to the Army beach right down the street in Waianae to snorkel one day and it was so calm and nice, I was so glad you mention it in the notes! We also ate locally several times and it was always great! We sat outside on the lanai daily and it was so calming even on the days when the surf was strong. The fans in the room were perfect with the windows and glass door open at night for us. Janis and everyone there were so nice and welcoming. The Island is amazingly beautiful and pictures don't do it justice. Each area has it's own natural beauty to it and we explored each with our rental car and some hiking. There was so much to do and we tried to do it all and then took time to recoup as well with a glass of wine afterwards on the Lanai. Thank you for sharing your home with us. I wish I was back right now!

perfect condo, fully fitted, right on the beach, a beautiful quiet beach where whales, dolphins, seals and turtles pass by, a few surfers and body boarders. a nice part of the island, less touristic (but for how long?), maybe not enough nice restaurants but we were not there for that, definitely the place to go if you want to avoid the Waikiki crowd. amazing stay!

Very nice location on the beach. Be aware of where you are going. This is an hour north and west of Honolulu on the dry side of the island. There is one road and can be clogged. This is a perfect place for a go and stay vacation. This part of the island has very limited restaurants or tourist type attractions.

Beautifully remodeled unit on the beach floor. This unit is equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay. We chose this trip to spend most of our time on the beach which is absolutely beautiful and uncrowded. Step off the lanai onto the sand and into the water! I booked this condo with very little notice when we decided my kids and I would join my husband on his work trip. Because it was late notice, I found a few places we liked/would work for us and sent out messages to see if places were actually available. Janis was the only person out of 8 places to get back to me! And we are SO happy that she did!!! Janis has been a joy to work with since our very first email. You can tell she loves her little piece of paradise and wants to share it with everyone! My husband was already on the island and stayed in it for the first time the night before we got there. At first he was a little concerned that it was a little small for the two of us, our two small kids (2 yr & 4 mo) and my Nana, who was helping me fly with the kids and staying for a week since she'd never been to Hawaii. When we arrived the next afternoon I was SO very pleased! This place is perfect! It has worked out so much better than I ever thought it would! We had the bedroom with the kids and my Nana slept on the hide-a-bed (which I never got any complaints about!). It was so nice to sleep with the sounds of the ocean, waking up to the warm sun greeting you, the beautiful view just behind the curtain, and enjoy my morning coffee with my toes in the sand. The back door was always open, and the winds kept the unit nice and cool. It was so nice to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner on the lanai and my 2 yo was always playing in the sand just on the other side of the boards. In total we will be at this condo for 3 wks and we saved so much money by preparing all of our own meals (the kitchen had everything we needed). The surf is a bit strong for little kids by themselves (was really strong a couple days, 10ft swells). Once you get passed the surf the snorkeling is pretty good, and my husband nearly ran into turtles! We saw at least one turtle a day and we saw a few whales the first few days we were here. The drive through town can take a little time because of all the stoplights, but it was nice to be out of the "big" city and see where the average Hawaiians live. I've heard this is the "not so great" side of the island but I never felt unsafe with my kids and we got more sunshine while we were here than the other areas. Overall we had a GREAT time here! It worked perfectly for our situation and our kids. If my husband has to come back for more work, he is already thinking he will try to stay here! Thank you, Janis, for sharing your amazing condo!!!

The unit, although a little small, was very comfortable and it has all the creature comforts needed for a great stay. We were so glad we did not stay in Waikiki, it gave us a chance to see what living in Hawaii was really like. Facilities in the unit complex were great, and there were no concerns about security. The neighbors were friendly, and this added to our enjoyment. We had a highly enjoyableand relaxing holiday, and the unit was great.

The Cabana's are a Great Place to stay, a home away from home with everything you could possibly need for a Great Vacation, it was clean and comfortable. Being able to cook our own meals not only saved us a lot of money, it also gave us a chance each night to enjoy the sunsets while eating on the Lanai. You just have to open the sliding glass door and step out on the Lanai, step over the small wall and you are on the beach!! The "Trade Winds" kept the Condo nice and cool. Listening to the waves at night was relaxing, and watching the breathtaking sunsets was awesome, even in the night time, looking at the millions of stars was awesome, and we even got to see some falling stars! The water was warm and clear, the only downfall was the undertow, which was a little strong when we were there (but that was probably due to the Hurricane that past by the island just before we got there). As for driving around anywhere, plan on being in the car for at least 1/2 hour driving time as the speed limits are mostly 35 mph...and there is only one main road to get to and from the Condo. I arrived there with a lot of stress and tension, and when I left I was very relaxed and energized (now that is a GREAT VACATION)! I would definitely stay there again!!!

If you are looking for a getaway with an excellent beach for relaxing, snorkeling, great sand and privacy, this is the place. Condo is very clean, well stocked, small and simple. We enjoyed the close proximity of Makaha Valley Country golf club. Surrounding area of community is a little run down so we did not venture outside the compound. There is not any shopping or tourist attractions near by. But, if you just want to chill out and enjoy a beautiful view and beach, this is a great place for your money.

After a week at Waikiki, this extraordinarily placed condo was what was needed. It is a gated community and well taken care of. The condo itself is nicely decorated, although a little dated, it had all that was needed. No white towels, which was wonderful. Nice sized kitchen, and large bathroom, and bedroom, lots of drawers for emptying your suitcases. The lanai was perfect, we spent every minute out there eating, and simply watching the ocean and the sun go down. Loved it. The amount of utensils was adequate. The inventory list was helpful as was the directions to get to Makaha and to the condo. The information about the beach and the shopping was also excellent and appreciated. I would rent this place in a minute and likely will. Couple of concerns: The family that lives next door to the right were exceptionally loud. The lady upstairs enjoys listening to her television very loudly. I think she is hard of hearing. Just remember it is a condo and the walls are thin. We came back to Condo one night and found all the chairs from the Lanai missing, did a quick search and found three boys sitting out in the sand on them. Perhaps chaining the chairs in someway may stop them going missing. Again I say excellent place to spend a week. Loved the area and close proximity to shops, also loved that there are little to no tourists in the area, no ABC stores, if you want the nightlife, then this is not for you, but if you are looking for a quiet relaxing get away from it all with surfing, swimming, hiking and just relaxing, in a beautiful part of Oahu, then this is it. .

It was nice, clean, and affordable. Not a place for kids. The beach was beautiful, but the waves to strong for little kids to swim in. The unit did not have AC, but the breezes from the ocean where nice. It is also in the run down part if the island. We did not know this at all. Some of our tour guides told us to be very careful not to leave our cars unattended. And in took at least an hour and a half to get anywhere.

Family of 5. kids 17, 15, 12. Mom and Dad were comfy in the bed, and the pull out couch slept two more. Among the many extra's was an extra single cushion mattress and the three kids rotated being the one on the floor. Free wifi, cable TV and Netflix kept them from complaining too much at bed time. Kitchen well stocked with all pots pans and dishes. Extra sheets and towels and fins, beach umbrella, beach chairs, grilling gear. More than we expected. The beauty of the beach is more than I care to try to describe here. I likey. 7 nights went by too fast. 30 minute drive from Costco, Super Target, Sports Authority - but perfect solitude at the beach outside your door, Hawaii'n style. 5 minutes south of the famous Makaha Beach. 45 minutes to the infamous North Shore. 45 to SE shore and Makapu'u and Sandys beach. Small, but affordable. A great base camp for families and outdoor lovers. Best kept secret on Oahu. Mahalo!

...I dont want everyone to know about it. Pretty much perfect for secluded beach time in paradise....unless you are a habitual complainer or need top of the line accommodations to make yourself feel important. Not VIP or impressive conditions, and more roach traps could be placed as two rather healthy creatures were found and killed in daylight hrs......but if you don't have a stick up your butt about that, and/or you are taking your family and want the convenie,ce of staying on one of the best beaches in the world for a bargain of a price, you'll love it. We'd stay again for sure. Little extra conveniences everywhere: wifi, HD tvs w cable, Netflix, flippers, beach chairs, towels, beach umbrella, complete cooking utensils and dishes. Nuff said. Keep it on the down low!
