This is a wonderful cottage for a couple or a small family. Unbeatable location next to an amazing beach with snorkeling and sunbathing but plenty of shade when you want it! The cottage was spotless when we arrived. Mary was so incredibly helpful and accommodating and available if we needed anything. She went above and beyond to make our trip special. You will never regret a stay here. Wonderful.

Our 7 day stay at Ehu Kai cottage was delightful. Much thought and design was put into this treehouse type bungalow which typifies old hawaiiana with rich wood interior paneling. Perfectly clean upon arrival. Easy access to the beach and snorkeling. Grocery shopping a short drive away. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware with very nice appliances. The air flow from many windows,the ceiling fans and nice bedding made sleeping very comfortable. The staff at 2 Papayas was excellent in helping arrange our reservation,notifing us prior to arrival, updating us with weather warnings, quickly resolving any house repairs and providing a thorough to-do list for easy check out at our time of departure. Hawaii Surf & Kayak delivered SUP Boards to the bunglow for our length of stay and we did a kayak tour with them nearby viewing turtles, manta rays and octopus. Hearing the local songbirds each morning was a special treat!

The location was great, right on a snorkeling beach with a small ocean view. Short drive to Puako Bay where there is incredible snorkeling. The property contains everything needed for meals, comfortable king sized bed and the air conditioners work great. Mary was very responsive to all my questions.

This is a very comfortable home for a couple or small family. We also rented Ulu Nui as we were a large family group. The location is oceanside, with a white sandy beach, has fantastic swimming and snorkeling with turtle viewing nearby. We had sunset watch every evening, beach star gazing at night, barbeques, and dinners on the lanai. The beach is easy to access for small children. Location is quiet, an easy drive to markets, shopping or entertainment. Most mornings and evenings I was the only one in the water! Manager is attentive and services are all arranged for a carefree visit. Love, love, love this location and the accommodations.

This is our second stay in this wonderful house and we are already looking forward to next year. Talk about a hidden gem. Basically right on the beach, but with privacy. Stocked with everything you might need or want and Mary’s team is just a phone call away in case anything comes up. From having the Hawaiian music channel playing and cold towels and a pitcher of cold filtered water in the fridge when you arrive, to the papayas and limes ready to use. We settle in like it’s home.

It is a mere steps from the most beautiful beach on the big Island. A perfect location. The home is clean and in great shape, and well equipped for making our own meals. It is extremely comfortable. We spent a week this summer in Ehu Kai, and really loved it! The cottage is located on the beach, and was clean, well equipped and a perfect size for a couple. Waialea Bay is a fantastic location and our stay there was the highlight of our vacation. The 2 Papayas team was really helpful!! We look forward to coming back again soon.

We had a wonderful stay at this true beach house. A great house for 2. Nicely furnished, clean and well equipped. Mary and her team are excellent. When we arrived there were fresh flowers, fruit as well as chilled wet cloths in the fridge. The beach is literally steps away. We experienced a personal emergency and Mary came to our rescue. We have already booked next year!

First - communication and coordination with Mary and her team was excellent. Very straight forward the entire process. We arrived at Ehu Kai - everything as planned. Wonderful property - neat as a pin - perfect for our stay! We really enjoyed having certain basic items provided - like coffee filters etc - all those small little items that you hate to buy for a short time period etc. The grill was fantastic for grilling fish - and we ate outside on the outdoor lanai every breakfast and dinner! Has AC but we didn't need it - the breeze through the windows is incredibly relaxing at night. Incredible location - we will be back!

This is an older well maintained property with a peekaboo view of the water on a short path to beautiful 69 Beach. It’s one of a small cluster of homes on a private gated road just North of Puako. It was perfect for a couple, but would be quite cozy with others sleeping on the pull out in the main living space. There are stairs from the carport to the house with BBQ and laundry on the carport level. Well supplied, outdoor shower, full kitchen, built for breezes.

This home was a perfect beach location. We rented this and an adjacent home for grandparents, kids and grandkids. Home was clean, well equipped and in very good condition. We have rent vacation homes 2 to 3 times a year and would the very good category. Close enough if you want to visit many of the islands attractions and place that when you drive away you look back and say that you will be back.. This was our third time staying in Ehu Kai. As always, the location so close to a wonderful beach was perfect. The house is in great shape, nicely updated and kept super clean, with everything you could need provided. The addition of air conditioning made for a happy August stay, though we only needed it for short periods a few times. (Usually, plenty of breezes and screened windows keep things comfortable.) Mary and everyone at 2 Papayas were professional and helpful, as always. Daily swims and beautiful sunsets just a few minutes from our front door made for a special stay. Thank you, 2 Papayas; the great job you do is much appreciated.

Best property management
This was our 2nd time staying here and our 3rd time using 2Papayas, the awesome property management company on the Big Island. Each time we have stayed in one of their houses has been a perfect vacation, from the expertly stocked kitchens to bathrooms with big fluffy towels, and always available and attentive staff of 2Papayas. The Waialea Bay house is perfectly situated with a secret path to the beach, a wonderful outdoor shower that has hot water to wash off the sand, and private setting with beautiful flowering trees and foliage surrounding. It is simply our favorite place to stay on the Big Island and I’m sure we will be back. We came to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary (got hitched here on the Kohala coast) and I was so sad to leave our little paradise. Thank you and Mahalo to Mary and Marley for providing such an exceptional experience. Aloha!🌺�🌺�🌺�

Wanted this to be great, it was good
Overall, we enjoyed our time here, but a few disappointments mixed with the good:
Pros:
Really off the beaten path
Perfect size for a couple, everything you could need
Very close to a lovely shaded beach
OK snorkeling (too murky for me, but my husband loved it, saw a sea turtle)
Easy to get to
Bed was soft, but firm
Close to other homes, but enough foliage and ground cover to feel private.
Cons:
One of the weekends we were here was a holiday weekend and the beach was VERY crowded. The rest of the week days it was very quiet, but it is a public beach well known for the shade, so just know on weekends or the holiday it can be crowded.
The description says there is an ocean breeze, but that was not our experience. I don’t know if it was a bad time of year, or if the foliage might be getting too tall, but there was absolutely no breeze at all. The air was still. With Hi 80’s in the day and low 70’s at night (2am), we really didn’t sleep… couldn’t sleep except from about 2-7am because it was just so hot the rest of the time.
Overall, we enjoyed our time, but it was just too hot to stay in the house without a true ocean breeze or a room a/c. :(

Great location
We really could not have picked a better spot. Our host greeted us on arrival with cool towels and a lei for my daughter's birthday. Stores are close to stock up and the beach that has the best weather on the island is steps away. The beach chairs provided were used every day and the snorkeling and rope swings provided all day entertainment for our 10 year old. Lots of cool creatures and flowers to check out right on the property. There was a great library to cover your reading interests. Internet worked great. The place has everything you need for a great vacation.

Great location but house needs A/C
This house is located on a beautiful beach with very good snorkeling and swimming. Large colorful fish can be seen within 50 feet of the beach. The house is nice but small. Like many houses in Hawaii, it does not have air conditioning. We had trouble sleeping a couple of nights when the trade winds were not blowing. The house was hot and humid, even with the ceiling fans all running full blast. A small window A/C unit would have made our stay much more comfortable. The 2-Papayas staff was very responsive and helpful with tips on where to shop, dine, etc. They do expect you to do some housekeeping like taking trash to the transfer station. I feel like they should do that for you given the cost of the rental. You shouldn't have to drive to the dump on your vacation. Overall, we had a great stay except for the hot and humid house.
