Great stay....great host....would come back again

Our family had a wonderful visit! We loved being in the hot tub at night and gazing at the Milky Way--with little light polution. The home is totally unique. It is on 176 beautiful acres just a little over a mile from Orr Hot Springs.
The play area was a hit with our family. We played a memorable game of indoor soccer. The basketball game provided a lot of fun competition for everyone. We all had a great time playing various games at the table in play room.
It was kid friendly and there is baby gate at the top of the stairs. There were more games and books available for kids than most rentals.
The kitchen was adequate and we were glad that we brought some extra kitchen gadgets and supplies. We would have appreciated more kitchen towels, a new sponge, and more wash clothes.

I’m truly not one to ever write a bad review, but I feel a duty to share the reality of this rental, as this inaccurate listing is still up and VRBO hasn’t imposed any consequences or listing modifications.
A quick summary of issues:
• Does not sleep 11 – max 6 (plus 1 on couch). There were only 3 beds. The listing and one review suggests there’s a pull out/twin, which there was not. The post also states there’s a pop-up crib, but if this is counted towards the sleeping count, it does not explicitly state so. Our confirmation email shows we indicated 10 adults and we should have been forewarned if we couldn’t be accommodated. As this was falsely represented, half of our party had to make other arrangements.
• Broken fridge – doesn’t seal properly. We kept it on the coolest setting but were concerned about spoilage.
• The only toilet in the home had a consistent leak which wet the floor.
• Broken washing machine. We used it on the first day, as there were dirty towels/sheets on the floor of the laundry room. It would stop mid-cycle and had to be restarted 3-4 times before completing.
• There was a hazardous broken window, partially covered with tape/cardboard. We returned on day 2 to more glass having fallen. It also allowed bugs and insects in.
• General uncleanliness. Dirty laundry, sand in the shower, red mold on the tub and shower curtain, overgrown yard leading to uncomfortable burs/foxtails in the home.
A few other things that might be helpful. The private road to the home is unkempt, very bumpy and needs an elevated 4WD. The pictures must have been taken a long time ago, as it has aged (eg. the rocking chair in the pictures is now very weathered) and there aren’t children’s toys anymore, if that is a selling point. I only saw the basketball hoops and small table with chairs.
There were many issues but the owner’s lack of communication and interest in rectifying the issues and maintaining her property are truly disappointing, as we paid a lot of money to stay here for 4 days. We reached out multiple times throughout our stay, asking if perhaps we were missing a pull out and to inform of the fridge and toilet, but never heard back.
The owner was communicative at first, providing check in info and even a few recommendations. She also mentioned the property was for sale if we knew anyone interested - therefore it seems they are not interested in continuing to keep guests satisfied with their rental, as it will be off their hands soon.

This house is incredibly serene. The view at sunset is one of the nicest I've seen. Highly recommend! Heidi is also incredibly considerate and nice to work with. Make sure your car can handle slightly bumpier roads on the way up, since it can be a little steep for a sedan. Enjoy!

We had a wonderful trip to Longview. The location is absolutely stunning and the house has all the things you could want for a small group gathering. We were particularly fond of the excellent kitchen and grill setup, the views from the fire pit area, stargazing from the hot tub, and ping pong and pop-a-shot in the garage space.
Heidi was very responsive and flexible about things like bringing our dog along. She also recommended arriving during daylight hours because of the long, curvy and unpaved driveway. I would recommend taking her advice on this! It is a little harrowing your first time up, especially if you don’t have great clearance-after the first time, it’s no problem.
Final thoughts: Beautiful home, beautiful property, plenty of solitude, but close enough to grocery stores and restaurants if you need anything.
We definitely hope to come back!

This home is great if you want to stay put for a couple of days. The road from Ukiah to the house is rather treacherously winding. We had to go in and out of town every day, so it was difficult. I am not sure if there is a coffeemaker, but we only found a French Press, which is lovely for 2, but not great for large groups of coffee drinkers. The toaster was the best! There are 3 bedrooms. Two of them have a queen and the other has a queen and a twin. The game room was great for children and even for some adults, especially if you play ping pong. It can be challenging to manage one bathroom with a large group, but that depends on the group. There are lots of games, 3 hammocks, and a fire pit when allowed. Also has a hot tub. There is a 6-burner gas stove and wonderful cast iron pans available. The main room is roomy with a huge dining room table.

This was a perfect getaway for two families of four- kids ages 4-12, from all over the globe. The endless views, peaceful hilltop setting and perfectly appointed kitchen made for an amazing two days. Two nights was definitely not enough and it's a good idea to bring all provisions although the Raley's in town is well stocked and has everything. No need to leave once up there- the kids loved finding all the hidden hammocks, swings and of course the epic play room. Loved it an hope to go back one day!

had a great time at Heidi's house and she was always so responsive and helpful leading up to our stay. House has an awesome playroom with fun costumes, toys and games for the little and big kids alike. We liked the hammocks, swings, and balance rope on the property as well. Cooking in the house was easy- well equipped with All-Clad pots and iron cast pans and nice propane gas grill. Watching the sunset in then hot tub and fire pit while roasting marshmallows at night was also awesome. We had a big group so we slept outside in a tent and it was comfortable and so pretty to fall asleep under the stars.
If being really nitpicky, some of the things that guests could think as being negatives are that the house is about half a mile up a gravel road from the main road, there is only one bathroom, rooms in the house arent really insulted for sound, and there can be little bugs that come in from outside.
we didn't really mind these things though and would stay here again! Thanks Heidi!

Magical retreat with breathtaking views!
We feel so lucky to have found this very special home for our family to relax unwind and be together in nature! All the little details, the great communication, and more made this a truly memorable vacation for us ~ can't wait to go back!!! Thank you Heidi 💚🌿🌲

Phenomenal property, incredible views
Sunsets will never be the same after our stay in the gorgeous hills of Ukiah. The property was incredible, house perfectly positioned up on a bluff above wooded valleys. The house was creative, full of fun and comfortable spaces for our creative group to explore. Kitchen was perfect for a large group, and we made full use of it. Heidi was an amazing host, responsive and generous with many great tips. Can't say enough wonderful things about the stay and hope to return soon.

More than I expected, loved the modern decor!
First and foremost Heidi, even though she was traveling, was VERY responsive. I chose this beautiful location (mainly based on the mid century modern decor!), and I was more than pleased. This was a 40th bday weekend getaway with friends, and their kids. I think the kids had the best time!
The HUGE side room with every amenity you could think of for recreation and kids was amazing. Even the adults had a blast in there. I had friends bring dj equipment and set it up on the ping pong table, and it was perfect.
There is more than enough space to fit a ton of people. It's modern, cozy, has everything you need, the awesome kitchen was supplied to the max, that we only needed to bring food. The 6 burner chefs stove was gorgeous, we bbqd on the propane grill on the expansive patio. Evenings were spent in the spa gazing at the stars. Mornings were spent watching the fog fade away and sitting the in the misty air.
A couple friends went hiking, jogging, on the many acres.
Heidi was very detailed in driving directions, making sure we drove up in the daytime, as the roads are very wind-y.
Such an amazing retreat we are already considering future getaways here!

amazing, relaxing get away
Our family had an incredible time at the Longview Ranch. The home is well designed in modern industrial style. There were endless activities for our 5 yo twins both inside and outside the house. Tranquil setting with absolutely stunning views!

A DREAM!!!
I can't believe I found a place that was even better than any expectations, better than a dream. The location is simply perfect, on top of the hill, into the wild, completely isolated, with only dears and birds around. The sunset is gorgeous and the night sky leaves you without words. The house is a perfect balance of a modern renovation of a rustic warehouse. I think the owner contributed to give to this place an incredible positive energy. I spent a weekend with a group of more than 20 people who slept in a tent and had an unforgettable experience. Everybody loved the place that has everything you can need for you or for your kids, included an amazing kitchen and a gorgeous hot tub on top of the hill!!!
Heidi was always prompt in responding and very nice to accomodate all our needs.
This place touch my heart and I can't wait to come back.

Unique rental but several points of note
This property has unique architecture, interior design, and wonderful, wonderful views. We did enjoy our stay especially since Ukiah's Temple of 10,000 Buddhas was so close. That said there are 5 items of note that could be a problem for other visitors. (1) The beds were extremely low and rock hard, not the best option for bad backs or knees. (2) The bottom floor is accessible for walkers and wheelchairs but the bathroom is not equipped with grab bars for either the toilet or the tub/shower. (3) The summer sun was a serious challenge in July, heating up the house and causing extreme glare in the west facing kitchen (no blinds but air conditioning). (4) Orr Springs Road is narrow and twisting but the partially graveled access road can be driven without 4WD yet it is _not_ for the faint of heart. (5) The guests prior to us sighted a rattle snake on the patio during their stay which could be a serious concern for children. Would we stay again? No, but we’re three older adults and have “issues” that do not make this an ideal property for us. If none of these issues are a problem for you we're sure you'll have a good time at this remote and beautiful house.

Mist In the Mountains.
The presentation and pictures say as they are, Longview Ranch is a perfect family getaway spot with all the privacy you can imagine. Had a men-only retreat at the ranch and had a good time. We also drove in and out to attend the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival at the Mendocino county fair grounds. The ranch has enough beds, very modern oven, refrigerator, washer and drier, hot water, musical equipment, etc. Nice location for a family makeup session, retreats, quiet vacation time, lots of things to do indoors. Will return with my family to have a one of a kind get together.

A must go place to escape the hum-drum of life, truly exceptional and fantastic hosts!
We were looking for a quite getaway to spend some time with our friends. It was a group of 5 opinionated people in their 20's and it was becoming extremely hard to settle on place with out budget. The moment i came across this posting, I knew this was where we were going to be the last weekend of 2012. Heidi was exceptionally kind in accommodating our budget and was very responsive.
It was a beautiful drive up the hills to the ranch. The air is crisp and there is no one around for miles. For master chefs like my friend, the kitchen had all the essentials and we were all happy campers with the yummy food. The floor of the house does get cold so don't forget to bring your booties and socks. There was a wood stove and lotsa firewood that kept us warm despite the heater. It was raining and it added to the beauty. The view from the ranch is like none other. The sunset was mesmerizing and we hiked around the hill to catch some glimpses of deer. There is no cell phone reception but there is wifi and it was good to cut ourselves off from the world for a little bit.
I believe Heidi's family uses this ranch as their vacation house so it is stocked up with everything one would need in times of despair. I loved that there were rubber boots when we most needed them in the rain. Oh and the music dads along with the Cranberries made my day :)
The place is a shed that's been converted into a house and it truly is a place you should experience for yourself. At night, we all lay by the bonfire, chatted and gazed at the stars.
Make sure to bring ample food because you wouldn't want to leave this place. Be careful to park your car because there is a slope near a fenced gate and one can get confused if coming in the dark. So try to get here in the light, and Heidi did inform us clearly.
I really look forward to coming here again someday and have been raving about this place to all my friends and family.
Heidi, thank you for being such an amazing host and helping us end 2012 the right way :)

We spent a long weekend here with some great friends and our family (2 kids) in the autumn. There were probably 30 or so of us here and we hade more than enough space for everyone. The photos and description do a great job of explaining the property itself but can't show the magic or the fun that you'll have there.
We just loved the place – the house itself has a great, understated utilitarian style where you know everything has been carefully considered (down to the cupboard full of heath ceramics). And in case the photos aren't clear the views are as amazing as the house and the land - all 187 acres of it. It's ovciously spotlessly clean and every detail has been carefully thought through.
We camped on the land, choosing a spot on the top of a hill in the closest grounds to the house (fenced in to keep any wildlife away) looking out down the valley and to the sea and sunset. We used the house as a base. The house is split into two main areas (which can be opened up) with one side a large play area for kids, the other side the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms.
We spent a day hiking around just one bit of the land - a great walk with the kids down the "saddle" to the acorn tree - a tall tree where woodpeckers have buried acorns in the bark all the way up - down a valley and back up again. The kids all came and had a great time as well, working up an appetite for the lunch we'd left on before we set off.
With swings, hot tubs, toys and lots of other extras this suited our family perfectly, but it would be equally magical for grownups. You can also explore the local hot tubs (Orr Valley) or go down to the redwood forest just three miles down the valley. Or just sit back at the top of the hill and admire the view.

If you have ever fantasized about a simple, modern dwelling situated in open space with spectacular views of nature in every direction..... this is truly it!
We recently took our 2 year old daughter here for a weekend getaway and were absolutely enchanted with this property. During the daytime, we explored the hillsides by following grassy roads and traversing deer paths. The air was heavy with the scent of eucalyptus and alpine Bay trees and the woods were alive with animal sounds. At night, we were cozy in the lofty Great room and toasty around the wood fireplace. The kitchen is very well-equipped with appliances as well as plates and flatware. The dining table can easily accommodate 8 - also there is a table outside that we used on a particularly sunny afternoon. The beds and baths are comfortable and simply decorated. Make sure to bring slippers though since the floors are concrete!
We can't wait to return to this hideaway -- until we find our own magical mountaintop, we will love returning to Longview.
