This is a great house. RIGHT on the ocean. The pool is great. Will definitely rebook.

The location of the property is amazing. The house has ample space. Plenty of beds are available. The kitchen is well equipped. Pool is nice. The pool deck however needs some attention.
During our stay, the weather was extremely humid and our little baby felt very hot and uncomfortable. The only air conditioner in the master bedroom however was out of order. Otherwise our stay was very enjoyable. The host and the manager were very helpful and friendly.

This was such a wonderful place to spend two weeks with family. We all enjoyed the pool a lot. The house has spaces to enjoy solitude if you need to and spaces to be all together without feeling squished. The number of spices, condiments, etc. in the kitchen was nice. Going down Alii drive easily takes you to shopping and eating close by. Mark and Shellese were on top of everything-the communication was great.

Mark was absolutely fantastic to deal with and as well the check in process with his on-site manager was easy after our long flight. The home is just as advertised!! Hearing the ocean waves crash into the pool and the views at night of the sunset were out of this world.
Close to downtown and everything we could possibly need was at the house including ice chests, beach chairs, BBQ, body boards....the list is endless.
Trust me, you will not be disappointed in your stay at this wonderful home. We will be back!!

Best location in Kailua-Kona. The surf can reach the pool. The salt water pool was the most soothing experience. Perfect sunsets sitting at the outside dining table. The house is older but has that oceanside feel of perfection. My family all agreed this was their best vacation experience ever.
A special thanks to Mark.

This property was absolutely perfect for our family’s Hawaiian Christmas. The location is phenomenal. All of us loved sleeping to the sound of crashing waves, the beautiful sunsets and spotting all of the sea life through out the day! There was plenty of space for all 10 of us. The house had everything we needed and more. Mark and his team think of everything! The consistent communication ahead of our trip made us even more excited. Thank you Mark for giving us the perfect place to create life long memories for 3 generations of our family! We would love to come back one day!!

This house is well appointed, the outside area is outstanding which is why you are in Hawaii. The layout of the house is upstairs a master with ensuite. 2 more bedrooms upstairs with a shared bathroom and a main floor 2 singles bedroom with an ensuite. Kitchen is also downstairs. We walked into town everyday and the free trolley stops right outside the house. You could not get a better location to go into town. Owner is very nice and responsive as well.

This house was perfect for the needs of our group— location, size, accessibility, proximity, ease. Although some things show signs of use, age, and salt exposure, everything is in working order. Several in my party said this was some of the best sleeping conditions ever! Love the waves and sea air!!
The owner and/or caretaker were in frequent communication leading up to or during our stay, making sure we had everything we need. I’d gladly stay there again if I come back to Kona!

We really enjoyed our stay! This house was great for our two families of four and had everything we needed. The pool and the view were the highlight, and we spent endless hours on the deck and in the pool and hot tub. Easy walk to town for food.

Firstly, we want to stress how frequent the communication process was. Mark provides constant communication, knowledge, pics/videos of the property, & the events of the area. Property manager, Shellese, is the best ever! She met us for check-in, went over all the home's features, and gave many recommendations of places to see, activities, & restaurants. Both she and Mark checked in regularly and sent other places of interest by text or call. The pool is amazing in size for a large group, and we spent a lot of our trip there. It is a great way to cool off in the Hawaii summer. The house does not have air conditioning, which I missed on the listing. However, there are many, many doors and windows to open to get airflow. Shellese stopped by with an extra fan when she found out some were not working. The kitchen is large and appliances in great working order. They have it stocked with all the plates, cups, silverware, food prep material that a large group would need. There were plenty of towels, paper products, everything a home would have and a traveler would not want to pack or buy. There is also a putting range around the property that we had fun with and a whole other lawn area with fresh produce, more putting, and another entrance into the ocean. We had a blast walking on the volcanic rock beach at different times of the day to see all of the ocean life ~ even a turtle! Mark was extremely flexible when we needed a late afternoon checkout due to airline delays. No regrets!

This house was an amazing place to celebrate my daughter’s 21st birthday. We loved the location, pool and easy walk to town. Check in was a breeze and listing is accurate. There is plenty of room so that you are not on top of each other and can get quiet time on one of the many lanai’s. Cooking is easy in the equipped kitchen with plenty of spices and pantry staples. Mark was responsive and gave us excellent advice for a fishing charter. Loved our recent trip and can’t wait to get back to the big island!

This house was perfect for our family of 7 for a number of reasons. First, the location was perfect. It is right in Kona and only a 20 minute ride from the airport. We booked a lot of activities and were super close to the hotels for pick up. The house is within walking distance to town but if you don't want to walk, the free trolley stops across the street and comes by hourly. Second, the ocean is literally right behind the house and the views were unbelievable. The pictures are accurate, but do not do it justice! We saw the most beautiful sunsets each night and were lulled to sleep by the crashing waves. Third, our family is made up of 3 generations and we all live in different states. We had so much fun hanging out and catching up and there was plenty to entertain to everyone. We napped in the sun, played in the pool, fed the eels, fished off the lava rock, had a family movie night, cooked family meals and practiced putting on greens that surround the house. Lastly, the owner was very helpful prior to our stay with offering to assist with arrangements as well as during our stay. This was our first trip to the Big Island and we had an amazing time...it definitely will not be the last. We are already talking about our next visit!

Simply put amazing. Pool is magical and probably one of the best I've been in. Its a very large pool. Overlooks the ocean. If you want a private pool with an ocean at your fingertips this is your stay. This awesome place is a beach house. You get the beach vibe from the moment you drive up. There is a putting green and lots of pool floats. Location is right in the heart of where you want to be. If you want to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of waves rolling or crashing. Here it is. We had our lanai patio doors open all night and no bugs came in, and I'm a bug phobic person. Large bathrooms and we never ran our of hot water. I had worried about closet space but there was alot of space and tons of hangers. Fans, and almost anything you would need they had. Very very large TVs in living room and master bedroom. Lanais are to die for.
I cannot say enough about Mark the host. He was in constant communication in making sure we had what we needed. There was continued pool and grounds cleaning & maintenance that was seamless and behind the scenes. Just the regular care like you need for a spectacular place to keep being spectacular. Washer and dryer was handy.
Beach gear and coolers were eazy to find and use. Lots of sunshine, big patio doors and that wide open feeling. Lots of comfortable seating in the indoor living space. Lots of outdoor seating with lounge chairs etc.. you can spot lots of fish, moray eels, and spinner dolphins.

We had a family group of 9. The house was perfect for our needs- great kitchen with plenty of supplies, comfortable bedrooms, great living room that opens to the ocean. Loved sitting in the hot tub watching whales and dolphins. Kids spent hours in the pool. Easy walk into town for shops and restaurants. Great hopping off point for adventures. Hope to return again soon. Host is very responsive and helpful. Thank you, Mark.

Exactly what we expected for a beach house on the shores of Kona. Pool and spa were excellent for the days we didn’t travel to a beach and for afternoon Happy Hour. The house had everything we needed from beach towels, beach chairs and umbrellas for shade. The kitchen was well supplied, the beds were comfortable and listening to the waves at night put us right to sleep. Mark and the property manager was quick to respond to any questions we had. Excellent hosts and will definitely come back again.

We were 3 adult couples visiting the Big Island for the first time. We wanted to find a reasonably priced house with views of the ocean that would accommodate the 6 of us. The house is in a great location and has beautiful sunsets. The house is worth it for the ocean view alone. It is an easy walk to downtown and to the Voyagers of the Pacific Luau. The house reminds me of your typical beach house with wide open views. We would open all of the doors and enjoy the ocean breezes every night and every morning we would spend time on the lanai drinking coffee and enjoying the ocean before a day of adventures on the island. The bedrooms have King beds with ceiling fans in each room. There is no air conditioning, so the ceiling fans helped to circulate the ocean air at night. The owner was replacing the TVs in the bedrooms during our visit but we never turned a TV on the whole time we were there. He has also purchased the lot next door and is expanding it into a new green area for the house. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need for cooking. We did spend some time enjoying the swimming pool, though I am sure it would have been used more if we had brought our children with us. I had regular communications with Mark, the owner, before and during our stay. He is very helpful and keeps you informed of everything happening at the house and the island. This was a great place to stay and I want to thank Mark for letting us stay in his house. When we come back to the Big Island, we will definitely be making this our place to stay again.

My family loved our week here from the moment we walked in the front door. this place is what you need if you live a hectic life. The waves are loud and crashing , you sleep like a baby. The view is worth the stay. We cooked and had a staycation. Played cards outside at night and sat in the hot tub. Our highlight was feeding the eels. The kitchen is well stocked and I appreciated that things were there in the fridge and cupboards. We left things for the next guess to use. The house has beach chairs and umbrellas and ice chests so that was a treat. Mark is only a text away and he is very helpful and knowledgeable as well. We cant wait to go back and spend another great vacation there! I loved the location and the minor street noise is worth being so close to town. Sure a/c would be nice but you only have a few hours a day it’s kinda muggy then hello trade winds here they come and your cool again. Mahalo to Mark beach homes take a salt beating and the keep up is so hard. This is a wonderful home to share great times with friends and family a d you get an amazing host as well😎

Cannot say enough how great our stay was at the Hale Kai House. Views from the backyard to the Pacific Ocean are stunning and we pretty much everyday stayed in backyard to enjoy the pool and views. The house itself was great for fitting our party of 8 with a nice large kitchen which we cooked our own meals most days (and if we wanted to eat out, downtown Kona was only a 1 mile walk). The owner (Mark T) made himself available for any questions and provided excellent recommendations for restaurants and activities in the Kona area (Mark even found someone locally to come out and climb up the palm tree to retrieve a drone that got stuck in the palms). Looking forward to coming back to the Hale Kai House the next time we are on the Big Island.

That hasn’t already been said:) Ideal property to hang out in or stage from with outings and day trips. The pool was a great source of fun and relaxation. The views, outstanding. The kitchen was well stocked with all the essentials to cook for our group of 10. The space was expansive with great tv and internet. Our grandkids had a ball. Temps were moderate with easy winds and evening showers. COVID kept the dining outings limited, but Costco and the new Safeway filled all food/pupu requirements. Mark’s place was the perfect remedy for the last year. He was a great and accommodating host.

What makes this property amazing? You get to ogle the waves, listen to the waves, feel the splash - while sitting in the pool or walking the wall. You're not thrashed about, but you are in a dream - warm and clean water with views to die for. The house is comfortable. Incredibly wonderfully comfortable. We kept trying to figure out how to describe it. Fancy? No. Yet well furnished, and beachy, and so so so comfortable. Nice beds. Quality furniture. Ever been at a rental that sleeps 6-8 but you can't actually enjoy each others' company together? Not here. There is comfy seating for 8 in the living room with everyone feeling like they have a great seat to watch a movie or play a video game. There is comfy seating for 8 at the dining table, so you can enjoy your mealtime. There is comfy seating for 6 in loungers by the pool and comfy seating for 8+ on the upper pool deck and outside table. We could be together without being on top of each other and be apart when we'd had just a little too much togetherness.
There were tons of pool toys and beach accouterment (chairs, snorkels, etc.). The kitchen was well stocked. The owner and manager were flexible and helpful. The towels were plentiful and fluffy. It was about 1/2 mile to the edge of town and we walked in often. Bikeshare racks are both up and down the street in easy walking distance. We had a car rental for a couple of days, but the rest of the week we easily got around by other means (feet, bikes, uber, shuttle).
Oh and killer wifi. And sunsets. And really cool eels that were fond of hotdogs. And four bathrooms. And and and...
Would we stay again? In a heartbeat. Please. Please. Please.

We had the best time. The house was a dream and the pool was amazing. Even though there wasn’t air conditioning we were fine. Leaving the upstairs doors open at night and listening to the ocean helped you fall a sleep. There was such a nice breeze every night. We saw dolphins , a sting ray and one morning a very large seal sun bathing on the rocks. The house had everything we needed and Marc always answered my calls anytime. Sherry does a great job making you feel welcome. We would definitely come back and stay here.. There were 9 of us with kids and we had so much room . Such a beautiful house and very spacious . We explored the island and loved coming back and jumping in the pool. We absolutely loved it there. Best time ever.

The moment you walk in you are greeted with a breathtaking view of the ocean. Even better than pictures could do it justice. Everything you needed was stocked and available at the home, to include towels, beach gear, snorkels, boogie boards, and even sunscreen! Mark was an amazing host and kept in touch leading up to our stay and throughout. 5 star experience from start to finish. We’re planning our next trip and will always book our return stays here from now on!

Mark is an excellent host. He hooked us up with some great stuff, and his suggestions are well worth taking into consideration. The outside experience from his back patio/deck area facing the ocean is fabulous. If you have a group that doesn't require the room accommodations of a Hyatt/Marriott/Hilton type resort, Mark's house is an awesome, very comfortable place to hang out for a week or so with laid back friends and/or family. We brought out our two sons, two daughter-in-laws, and our grandchild. We all had a blast. Hanging out, grilling, having big money putting contests on Mark''s real grass putting greens, watching beautiful sunsets from the back. Highly recommend it again for those that don't require a fancy resort.

In Hawaiian “Hale Kai” means “Home by the Sea”. Such an appropriate name for this wonderful home which is practically “in” the sea on the Kona Coast of the Big Island. After a couple of new grand babies over the past couple of years and the pandemic of ’20/21 we were finally able to have a long planned family vacation with the kids and grandkids. Hale Kai accommodated us very easily. The location is conveniently close to Kailua (walkable) and a walk shorter still, the Royal Kona Resort where you can have an original recipe Mai Tai at their bar named after Don the Beachcomber. The “back” of the house on Ali’i Drive is fairly unassuming however the seaside “front” of this two story house is spectacular in every sense of the word. The saltwater pool and spacious deck areas make this an ideal location for simply sitting back and soaking up the beauty and magic of Hawaii’s ocean front. Sunsets produced a couple of green flashes, and amazing post sunset red glows. Our clear mornings were soft and blue.
Although a difficult sea entry, an experienced only one that requires skill, nimbleness, a good pair of reef shoes, and a cooperative sea, the snorkeling was excellent. We actually found that a short walk south along Ali’i drive lead to a far easier beach entry where one could easily swim/snorkel back up to Hale Kai for a lava rock exit at the house. Two tidal pools below the pool’s lava rock foundation wall were the home of three huge gray spotted morays as well as “Big Red” a large rusty colored moray. Although I’m not a fan of feeding wildlife it was pretty hard to not give in and listen to the kids squeal with delight when the eels were easily enticed out of their lairs with scraps of chicken.
Mark, Hale Kai’s owner, and long time tortoise/turtle lover, informed me that “Freddy”, the resident green sea turtle, frequently visited a small flat tidal pool where “he” would graze on the seaweed and algae. Sure enough, Freddy (or Frederica as the case may be!) made regular appearances to the “dining room” on slack and ebbing tides.
Speaking of Mark, one couldn’t ask for a more delightful person to work with. We had regular communications leading up to our trip and he was a calming influence as we negotiated the COVID travel requirements imposed by the State of Hawaii. Mark’s knowledge of the Big Island is what you’d expect of a person who’s been coming and visiting his island family for more than 25 years. I highly recommend taking ad
