Great house and very lovely owners who welcomed us very warm. Everything was prepared quite lovely from Abel. We didn't expect to get so many fresh fruits or vegetables :) wow! THANKS A LOT! Great host and house! Spacious and well equiped. Arco de Sao Jorge is a lovely village in the middle of nowhere but great for people who love to be in an area without too many others. The perfect start hiking in Madeiras north. Small shops in the village and a huge mercado in Santana. Great communication beforhand with Edgar - really felxible. thanks for everything!

We loved this place! Edgar and his father Abel took great care to ensure the unit was in excellent condition and handled questions quickly and proactively. The entire place was extremely clean and well appointed - kitchen fully stocked with not only pots, pans, an excellent coffee machine, etc. but fresh veggies, fruit and more. While being in the centre of little Arco de São Jorge, your view is totally private and totally cute watching little lambs and sheep run around. The bed is comfortable and bedroom very spacious. The portable heater came in handy after a rainy day hiking. There are too many things to comment on. We definitely hope to return!

Edgar’s and Abel’s large, two storey vacation house in Arco de Sao Jorge is secluded and ideally located in a partly walled area with a massive garden full of palm trees and banana plants. You can park on the premises and won’t be bothered by anyone except the friendly sounds of the sheep and chickens. The house has a large kitchen with everything you need, and I mean everything. There are two large bedrooms with enough cabinets, their own tv and private bathroom. The bedrooms are connected through a spiral staircase, not through a door. The upper bedroom has it’s own terrace with mountain view. 50m from the house you have a lovely miradouro with vast views of the ocean. The biggest supermarket of the north east is located in Santana on a 20 minute drive. For simple groceries you can use the local store down the road. Madeira is a small island, and many attractions such as many beautiful levada’s, the laurisilva forest, the Pico Ruivo, Funchal and the coolest swimming location in Porto Moniz are all within a 30-45 minutes drive. The north is beautiful and has a lot of different scenery. You can easily spend two weeks here with daily excursions. And make sure you spend it in Edgar’s place, because the friendliness of his family is unsurpassed in supplying everything you may need, in great communication and making sure you will have the best time you can have.

We have never had such a warm and great welcome before. Edgar's parents are the best hosts ever! The fruits, vegatables, eggs, bread and wine were so yummy :-) We enjoyed the house and the garden (with the sheep) very much despite the rainy winter weather. And the location is perfect to explore Madeira's North/East/West as well as for mountain trips. We would just love to come back.

Our hosts Abel, Teresa and Edgar were fantastic. We had to quarantine until we had got our test results (12 hours) we arrived to find we had home made fish pie and passion fruit pudding all ready for us, along with enough fruit, vegetables and eggs to feed an army. We were invited for dinner too at their Quinta in Funchal. We couldn’t have asked for nicer hosts. The area is fantastic for walking/hikes. You really need a car, so you can get around the island to appreciate it fully. Arch Sao Jorge is a small friendly village on the North side of the island, remote, peaceful and we will be back

The place is lovely, calm and we had super relaxing holidays in Solar Arco de São Jorge. Communication with the owner was very smooth. E-Mail and/or phone. In english, french or (of course) portuguese. The owners are very friendly and have been helpful throughout our whole stay. They provided us with very useful information on events on the island, restaurants, shops around and even on traffic if needed (closing of a tunnel nearby) which gave us the opportunity to plan our days accordingly. The owners not only gave us a very warm welcome but also a good starter kit with fresh food. Though this place has still the charme of a rural house it is restored and extended in a very modern and nice way. See the pictures. They give you a very good idea of the place. The house was clean, equipped with everything we needed and it is spacious. We stayed there as a couple, but there is plenty of room for 4 persons. There are two bedrooms with one bathroom each and a fully equipped kitchen with a living room. Plenty more: stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, capsule-coffee-machine, good working wifi, SAT-TV,... A beautiful terrace belongs to the house as well as a nice patio and a garden with fruits and vegetables that we could harvest. There were some chickens in a stable providing us with fresh eggs. And a couple of sheep on a meadow that belongs to the property gave us a friendly welcome when we came home from our trips. The village of Arco Sao Jorge is a good place to explore the different parts of the island. There are bus lines to the east and west part - but we used a car. Starting dircetly from the Solar Arco de São Jorge you can hike along a nice coast path to Boaventure and a lot of the beautiful levada hiking areas are within reach with bus/car. The north coast of Madeira is less populated and less "crowded" than the south coast. It has a stunning landscape an beautiful nature. We liked it very much!
