Close to the safari park, but that’s no rare.
Near riverside, view ok but many many flies and bugs. How could you expect customers to eat like that?
No hot water. No air conditioning. Dirty bedspreads.
But worst of all, the staffs especially the lady staffs are rude and unfriendly. I mean what’s the matter with that face she made? We had dinner buffet had 6 drinks in total equal to the room charges. But experience is like the worst of all time!
Even worst, the hotel is so short sighted to rip us off with the driver accommodation charges. It is their national association of tour guide of this country to protect the right of tourists and licensed guide/driver to have reasonable treatment for stay and food. But this hotel is so dishonest. They didn’t tell our driver that they are charging his room and cut us off when we check out.
Ok I will never recommend this hotel ever to all my friends and colleagues working in Sri Lanka.

We had an amazing 2 days at Athgira . Very friendly and helpful staff, amazing chef and gorgeous surroundings. Do visit this place if you are planning a visit to the National park.

This place is a hidden paradise. Set amongst lushes palms and a green valley. Beautiful safari style tents adorned with palm roofs and outdoor bathrooms, look down over an exotic and babling river with shingle beach. Bathing is encouraged here and the management even suggests that they bring you a beer down whilst you sit in the shallows. You will meet lovely Sri Lankan locals here, paddling, chatting and even carrying out their daily laundry wash. This place is so idylic and made even more special by the team of staff. Nothing is too much trouble and the Manager, Prassanna, mentors his staff with a naturing and caring manner. Some of his team are only trainees and it is these staff that are truly a pleasure to meet. We'd love to thank all the team but especially, Chalani, Maheesh, Kithumi, Chanacka and Wimakthi.
The Head Chef Mr Fernando delivers amazing dishes, eaten on the river bank, and under twinkling lights. Its a very romantic and intoxicating setting. The Chef also provides cooking tips for any dish you like and additionally advises about panning for tiny pieces of Ruby fragments that can be found in the river. My wife and I spent a few hours in the warm waters, doing this and bagged around 30 small chips of Ruby. It was a very memorable experience.

The on-site pool was lovely.
Breakfast was good, a big buffet, omelette station,e ect. Dinner was also a buffet, it was also okay. They organised an excellent safari for us - 8000 for driver and jeep (not including park fees).
The room was fine, but nothing special. The beds were comfy enough. There was a fan in the room.
Its quite a way out of town and far from the national park which is really the only thing we can to do.
The tents were quite close together, not especially private. Our tent at the front was also disintegrating a bit.

the staff was so helpful and the breakfast views were amazing.
the bathroom could be better due to the price, and wifi was not working well

Back to nature. Peaceful and watching and listening to the wildlife including monkeys and peacocks
The shower was a bit poor. But to keep perspective it was meant to be a camping

We stayed for one night at the end of June 2022. The staff are amazing! They are very attentive and went out their way to set up a special candle lit/fire torch dinner for us. The food was lovely and we were given a variety of curries.
The pool is a great size and gets lots of sun. The tents are a good size although we only had one working light in the bedroom. They also have fans for at night.
This is a glamping/camping experience and you can expect to see bugs. I did have a spider on me in the middle of the night, which did scare me. There was a frog in the toilet but remember you are basically camping! I didn’t have a good sleep as it was quite windy but it is a camping experience.
This is a good experience for one night to pair with a safari. Although expect to see bugs and it may be warm to sleep in.

Very clean and courteous staff. The owner/chef was very helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed the tent vibe (tents are under shelter). The new block (rooms) were spacious and had fab showers with hot water and great pressure.

The hotel was a great experience for us.
We upgraded our room and got a tent with a patio with a view over the lake, and it was the best.
The tent is very nice and clean, the bathroom is big and clean, and the staff is very kind and helpful with everything.
We had drinks and lunch on the patio, while looking at birds and monkeys in the trees over the river (tip: bring some binoculars. We used ours alot looking at many different birds).
The food is very good and the surroundings while eating are so nice.
We booked our safari tour through the hotel, on booking.com, and when we asked the staff what time was best to go they said at 5.30 in the morning. And they were very correct.
We had a jeep to ourselves. Our safari driver was so fun, nice and very observant. He was fast at driving (but still careful) and running (into the ticket office), so we were the very first to enter the park and within 10 seconds we saw two pregnant elephants and a wild boar with babies!
We had around 5-10 minutes with them alone before a few other cars came, and it was a great experience.
Our driver took us places where there were no other cars to see elephants, crocodiles, tucan birds, deers and many more animals. We felt like we were completely alone in the park. He could tell us many facts about animals and was very eager to show us how beautiful the park was.
He also made sure that we felt that we had seen enough and satisfied with the tour, and we really were.
This experience is something we will never forget, and the hotel and safari is definitely something we want to come back to.
Wifi could have been better - but also a nice way to escape reality, by having limited access to wifi.

The beds were comfortable and the room/tent was cosy. The waiter in the restaurant was kind and helpful. The pools were clean and relaxing.
Contacting the hotel in advance of booking and arriving was difficult. They provided a WhatsApp number but never replied to it. They also took a long time to reply to the messages through booking.com. I wanted to know more information about the safari tour but they said they would “arrange when I arrived”. Upon arrival, the vibe was incredibly strange and the lady at the front desk was incredibly unhelpful. She didn’t provide us with any information and sent us off to our room. Eventually, we managed to get hold of her to answer some questions about the safari, during which she informed us that the tour was 5:30am but we later discovered that there were multiple other times given to other guests. It is strange we weren’t given options. The woman at front of desk then left before telling us the information required for the safari tour the next morning. We didn’t know where to meet the guide. A waiter told us to wait for the guide at the front desk but he was not there and there was no-one around to help. We eventually walked out of the property and found the driver waiting at the road. Furthermore, the front desk woman gave us the incorrect price which made paying at the national park difficult as we felt we could not get the correct information. We were not given any information about meals and costs. Unfortunately, due to the poor service, we ended up leaving a day early.
I strongly feel that this hotel needs to improve their check-in process and have costs and schedules clearly written down and provided for guests.

Very good for safari in terms of location.
Very good facilities in terms of tent.
Cold water shower
Lack of other services around the area. Meaning you had to eat there.

the tents were super cozy, but it is glamping. super nice forest area with a cute pool. helpful staff as well and easy to book the safari at the hotel.
the food was delish but expensive, and you’re probably gonna have to take it since there are no other restaurants around.

Amazing place in the middle of the wild, Nice pool surrounded by palm trees, great buffet for dinner and breakfast, cute tents, just cool !!
mosquito net too small so difficult to sleep as you feel a bit in a kettle

very good price/quality, nice tents, comfortable beds, nice bathroom
dinner looked fancy, but wasn't so good, advice to the kitchen: don't invent special dishes, just stick with what you do best ;-) it can be simple and delicious

We were greeted by all the staff with a little welcome drink while our luggage was already brought to our tent. Our standard tent / room was beautiful, tidy and clean but also made us feel like real jungle pioneers at night, where we could hear nothing but the river and the animals - no Tuktuk honking for once!
Our bbq candle light dinner at the river bank was a mix of local and western food and very romantic. The staff is very friendly and tended to all our needs. Breakfast and pool were fantastic too.
10/10 glamping experience - would recommend and do again if possible!

Everything was amazing! we spent a day next to the pool and then had a great dinner by the river. The tent was very thought through, with comfortable beds and mosquitos net. The staff was lovely and very professional! highly highly recommend:) oh, and the fresh papaya juice on check in was a great touch.
As previously mentioned no hot water, but it didn’t bother us.

We absolutely recommend this stay. Great pool, nice rooms with amazing staff! Even though we stayed just one night, the staff did their best to make our stay unforgettable. To conclude, together with nice and tasty breakfast, super willing staff and very comfortable accommodation, we definitely recommend this stay and hope to stay there soon again.

The food was amazing : breakfast was the best we had in Sri Lanka, with both quantity and quality. Location next to the river is quite charming, and close to the safari areas.
Bathroom was very simple and no hot water

The setting was great - beautiful by the river.
The staff were fairly unfriendly when we arrived - our least welcoming reception in over 3 weeks in Sri Lanka. The path to dinner by the river wasn’t lit so quite strange to walk in the dark when you don’t know where to go! In the morning we were sad to see litter right outside our tent left over from when they’d last cleaned the room out I think. unfortunately the food was also fairly poor. French Toast at breakfast buffet was so burnt it was inedible.

The host Asela was really friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent and really big portions! Bed was super comfy and I enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the jungle. They helped to arrange a safari and a taxi for my onward travel. I'd highly recommend
