Comfortable room. Lovely staff. Good restaurant
A little far from town
5.0 / 10.0
Nice building, nice decoration, decent breakfast comparing to other places in Tonga, big rooms, nice balcony.
If you want to sleep, you won't be able to!
Loud music plays in the nearest building until 1 a.m. This music literally vibrates the walls and floor in the room, and your bed as well, so earplugs won't help you. And at 4 a.m. roosters start crowing right under your windows.
In the best case, you can sleep normally just 2-3 hours maximum.
On Fridays, live music plays in the hotel restaurant until 10 p.m., which also vibrates the walls, because there is no soundproofing.
At night, there are no employees at all in the hotel, and if something happens, you have no one to ask for help.
In our case, for some reason, the hotel took a very long time to respond to our requests. We tried to organize a transfer from the airport, wrote to the hotel, but they simply did not answer us for days. In the end they finally confirmed the transfer, but we were chasing them for a couple of days.
Water in the shower is not stable, it switches from hot to cold every few minutes.

Easy walk to town and the communal balcony was lovey to sit playing cards in the evenings. ..Secure car parking was a bonus too . The restaurant food was better than average and definitely drew a crowd.
Advertised as providing a flat screen TV, which it did. It worked but there were no TV stations, DVD player or DVDs available to watch. The owner was dismissive, arrogant and very rude when approached on numerous enquiries. Plan ahead if you are there on a Sunday as meals not available. Mosquitos bad- we arrived late and they'd left the lights on and the door open, bitten so much overnight that we actually thought it was bed bugs. Waterfront view is minimal and not really worth the extra. Garden view was a clothes line and a carpark.

The breakfast was lovely and they were able to accomodate our need for gluten free food. The restaurant meals were the best we had in Tongatapu.
Not all the staff were aware that the restaurant could provide gluten free food for breakfast, so the first morning we just had our own food.

The location was excellent, the food at their restaurant was the best on the island and the staff were so helpful and friendly.
Josephine , the manager helped us find a rental car during our stay and drove us to get it. She went out of her way to help us while we were there.
Ronnie, the chef always had a smile on his face and cooked up some delish meals during our stay. We had some of the best tuna steaks we’ve ever had!
The restaurant staff were also so nice and lovely
Bed and pillows weren’t so comfy.
No tv in our room and wifi wasn’t included in the room price

Breakfast was fine although sometimes it did feel like we were on rations as limited amounts of milk, cereal and bread for toast were provided. Cooked breakfast was fine.
Staff very friendly and restaurant for evening meals was very good.

This is more like a boutique hotel, it has a good museum type vibe, the restaurant is good for lunch and dinners. The staff in the restaurant are friendly and the life music for dinner is great. ( that’s more a review for restaurant)
We spent 4 nights in this hotel. On our arrival the room wasn’t prepared for the guests, it was extremely dirty & dusty everywhere.
The shower walls were so dirty, that we were afraid to touch anything. On the shelves you could see signs of used soap and hair that definitely was never cleaned after previous stayers . Awful!
The bedding was dusty and with stains, we found signs on the linens like body hair that clearly showed that it wasn’t changed. We couldn’t use the wardrobe, the hangers were extremely dusty. It was too late to move to another hotel, so I had to use my personal towel and sarong to cover the bed. I had a sleepless the first night because of dirtiness.
After we made a complain to the receptionist, they did a general cleaning and changed the linens. It was acceptable for spending another 3 nights so we decided to stay. Apparently after our complains all the other rooms were scrubbed and they paid more attention to the maintenance. They even repainted the terrace floor.
after the complaints- The wardrobe wasn’t cleaned from dust, the shower wasn’t perfect, the terrace crib was so dusty so there wasn’t a great idea to use it.
We were charged extra 80$ for the sea view, which wasn’t worthy, you barely can see it through the palms, just a small blue spot.
On the top of that, opposite the hotel there was a bar that was playing loud music until 12.30 am every night. :)
Our locker in the room wasn’t working properly, we were not using the key most of the time.
They provide just shampoo and soap, so if you need conditioner, bring it.
The breakfast- that was a big joke :))) we were making fun on that every day. Tea. filtered coffee, jam, toasted bread and peanut butter and if you are lucky and chef is in the kitchen they will prepare “ chef’s choice”.
1 day breakfast - french toast
2 day - no breakfast, chef wasn’t there
3rd day- 2 poached eggs on a spinach leaf
4 th day breakfast - 2 scrambled eggs.

The breakfast was good and I'd like others to be sure of being satisfied. The staff were very friendly, I wish them all the best for the future.
The prices of the midday and evening meals were higher than I expected!

super nice stay in this beautiful colonial house all in wood with a personal touch of the owner Liz in terms of decoration. The kitchen is amazing but the staff even more. Liz even took us for a sunday afternoon tour of the island. Best hotel experience in years. Thank you
to be honest i didn’t have anything negative to report

Staff (Josephine) and wait staff at the restaurant were friendly, lovely, and helpful.
Noise from the road and night club was WAY too loud. In addition the air conditioner didn’t seem to do the job.

No negatives to mention, everything was EXCEPTIONAL!
Would DEFINATELY recommend a stay at Waterfront Lodge and will happily go there on our next trip to Tonga!
Liz the owner was a pleasure to meet as were her staff! They went above and beyond to assist in any needs we had and treated us like family ♡ The food was excellent so you could even just drop by for a wonderful meal if only in town for a short while.
This is the BEST service we have had through all of our travels and we will most definitely be back!
Thank you Waterfront Lodge and Cafe! ♡♡
