Visiting family close by so really handy. Spotlessly clean, with a gorgreous bathroom, and comfy bed. Warmly welcomed back (2nd visit here), and the staff at breakfast were really friendly and obliging.

Only one tiny criticism - a full length mirror would be appreciated in the bedroom.

The smoke detector went off twice during my second night whilst I was asleep. I informed the owner but nothing was done about it. As sleep time approached on my third night the smoke detector squawked again twice (very loudly as they do). I phoned the owner but all he could say was he was sorry about it. Fortunately it didn’t do it again during the night. Examination of the smoke detector revealed it should have been replaced 16 months earlier. The room was cool. One radiator was very slightly warm and the other did not come on at all. A lick of paint here and there wouldn’t have come amiss. I asked for a receipt twice but they would not give me one. I was told I had to get one from Booking.com but I paid them on my arrival. I travel a lot so I know when you pay the hotel they issue a receipt.

Very good breakfast. Perhaps a wider choice for the evening meal. All staff were friendly and helpful. A lovely building and setting and an extremely 's quiet room for a good night's rest.

Wasn't the weekend I originally planned but had a very good stay anyway. The accommodation was excellent and the pub very friendly and enjoyable.
