El alojamiento es fácil de localizar y está en una ubicación muy tranquila, a las fueras del pueblo de San Vicente, con unas vistas espectaculares, rodeado de naturaleza. El check-in fue online muy fácil. Las llaves del alojamiento se encuentran en un locker con contraseña que proporciona el dueño.

Sin embargo, en ningún momento hemos visto a los dueños, no había información para turistas en español en los folletos, y la limpieza de las zonas comunes no era lo que esperaba. La habitación estaba limpia. No había agua caliente en la cocina, aunque sí en el baño, y la ducha del piso inferior no es válida para personas con una estatura alta.

I loved its location plus how easy it was to park a car right in front of the guest house. The room was spacious and the beds comfortable enough.

It’s a lovely house and very well equipped. The view from the room with the balcony is beautiful! Better with a car since it’s up a very steep hill (common in Madeira of course) - worth knowing if you come on the bus. Beautiful terrace and garden area; very well kept!

The shower was a little leaky, and for those who are maybe a touch on the ‘shy’ side, it is worth noting that the private bathroom has a sliding door that doesn’t go to the ceiling, so you’ll be able to hear everything from the bedroom. Not necessarily bad, but something to consider for some people.

I really liked having the balcony so you could sit out there to eat or chill. It was easy to drive to, with on-street parking.

The downstairs shared bathroom was really small and the ceiling in the shower was quite low so you ended up bashing your hand on the ceiling when washing your hair (and I’m only 5 foot 3!). The kitchen was also quite small so if someone else was in there cooking then it felt like there wasn’t room for anyone else

The view was amazing and the location ,but nothing else .

The beds were really unconfortable, the shower was old/ there was no toilet brush , there was a rat outside the terrace ,runned throught the roof ..scary , and the smell was everywhere moldy and old .

The Gardens Guest House is very well located in the village of São Vicente and surrounded by nature and magnificent views of the mountains and the sea. You will find a mini supermarket, cafes, and restaurants a short walk away. The house has a super well-equipped kitchen with everything you can imagine to have the best experience possible and if you need something you can't find, Joaquim the owner goes above and beyond to get and help with what you need. The rooms are beautiful and the whole property is very clean and cared for. This stay exceeded any expectations I had before arriving here and I can't wait to return.

The property has everything you may need for a vacation, it served as a good base for trips around the island. Bear in mind that you will need your own car to get in and out as it’s situated on the steep hill. On the other hand, that has an added benefit that you will have a nice view of Sao Vicente.

The bathroom doesn’t really have any partition to the room, so you end up using shared bathroom anyway as you don’t want to listen to every sound on the water basin or shower. It would definitely benefit from an actual brick wall and lockable door to the bathroom. Also the shared kitchen is sometimes pain, but that’s what you have to deal with when you are looking for these great deals.

Great location - middle of the island. Clean, great views, everything u could need in the kitchen has been provided.

The view is absolutely stunning, worth all the sounds surrounding the place. Great communication and flexible approach.

Bathroom is not seperated from the room (ensuite) so have it in mind if you share the room with someone.

We enjoyed our stay

Clean, comfortable accomodation. Not luxury, but functional - everything you need for a nice stay. The hostel has shared bathrooms and kitchen. Everything was spotless.

The building itself was little bit damp, you could smell it and it was also a reason why it was chilly inside. I cannot say "I did not like it", but it is fair to mention it here.

Lovely place! Beautiful balcony with a view. Very well equipped kitchen. Friendly staff! We loved it!

Great location and absolutely beautiful view! I attached a photo of the view from our room as a proof :) São Vicente is an amazing place to stay on the northern coast of Madeira. We had a relatively long stay there (2 weeks), and it was really helpful to have a kitchen. It was well-equipped, and was always kept clean and tidy. There was also a cozy dining area. We enjoyed chatting and sharing experiences with other guests while cooking or eating :) Also many thanks to the host Joaquim who was always very helpful, responsive and friendly! We would definitely recommend Gardens to our friends, and would stay there ourselves if we visit Madeira again.

We were perfectly happy with our stay, but be ready that it's not a hotel. Still, this guest house is 100% worth the money you pay for it.

The house has a good renovation and a lot of decorations inside. Kitchen has all necessary equipment and s dining room is lovely.

This house looks cozy and has all necessary stuff for you.. it’s in an amazing place BUT! it smells like really an old building and you can’t breath here normally. I am a young girl and it has never been a problem for me. But It was so bad that one night I woke up and I was thinking that I will die from this awful smell. And fter 2 night in the house all my clothes must be dry-cleaned just because it was there.

A big house that was very cosy (the more so due to the very beautiful Christmas decorations). The kitchen was very complete and a pleasure to cook in. Joaquim was a great host, super helpful (thanks for all the help), and the staff nice. A very quiet place, perfect if you want to have a good rest. I enjoyed a lot my hikes from there (most of the times having to take the bus, whose stop was not very far) and then returning to the house in the evening. Not far also (about 20 mins on foot) from a small supermarket that had basically everything (good fresh meet also). I could also meet some interesting people and enjoy the views of the valley (from the house or when I walked down to the bus stop or the supermarket). In reality I would have liked to give a 9.5 (in some aspects for sure 10).

Very minor things because the overall experience was very good. The house felt very very slightly cold (it was December), but in reality the very nice and warm Christmas decorations made really up for it (and I am also a bit cold sensitive). This particular room (family room), unlike the others, was next to the entrance, so it could imply some noise when someone left the house early in the morning (in any case, never ever big noise and only if you didn't get up very early). The location had its pros and its cons if you didn't have a car (but still pretty good if you were willing to walk and were aware of the buses timetables).

Gardens Guest House is an excellent place to stay for a few days or a week, as I did. I had the Family room to myself and was very satisfied with the accommodation. The room is located on the ground floor was clean and spacious and the bed I slept in was comfortable with clean linen. There was another guest bedroom are on the ground floor and both this and the Family room share a bathroom which was clean with a hot shower. Towels are provided. Upstairs on the first floor there are two other guest bedrooms occupy the first floor and another, much larger bathroom. The kitchen is also on the first floor and was well equipped with crockery, utensils, coffee machines, oven, hob, microwave and fridge freezer. Self catering is definitely a bonus here as the nearest restaurants are a long way down the bottom of the hill in Sao Vicente town (though there are a number of local bars within walking distance of the property). There are are two supermarkets within a 20 minute walk of the property and a third in Sao Vicente itself, which is about 35 minutes walk from the property. Next to the kitchen is a terraced area (for when the weather is sunny) with chairs and a lounge are to relax on and an inside lounge (when there is rain) with a dining are, sofas and chairs. There is also a TV and a library of books in both English and Portuguese. Your host is the ever helpful Joaquim who is on site most evenings. He speaks excellent English and can point you to places of interest and sort any problems one might have. I found Gardens Guest house to be a quiet and relaxing place to stay and lived up to my expectations. I was looking for a base in the north to do some hiking and this accommodation suited my purposes down to the ground.

I was very happy with the accommodation - but I visited Madeira in low season and there were not so many guests, so access to amenities, such as the bathroom and kitchen was easy and enjoyable..... high season maybe a different story? Also, be aware that the property is high on a hill overlooking the town of Sao Vicente, so if arriving on a bus from Funchal be sure to get off at Centro de Saude (hospital) or the stop after. Do not take the bus down into Sao Vicente itself or you will face a 35 minute. Lastly, if staying in Sao Vicente be aware that in low season public buses are limited and so a car maybe preferable if you intend making this your base and travelling around the island. I did not mind the lack of public transport as I was there for the hiking and there were plenty of routes in this area for me to hike. If trying to access places by public transport along the north coast be aware that the last return buses to Sao Vicente can leave places like Porto Moniz in the mid afternoon leaving little time to see the area. However, taxis are plentiful.
