unpretentious and really comfortable

If you are visiting Santillana Del Mar, I highly recommend staying a bit out of the centre, if only for the views and the walk. This hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the coach stop and centre of town, and the walk is truly fabulous on a crisp morning or in the evening after a few ciders. Walking past the locals homes, and the views of the countryside, you get to see more of the area than staying in the centre. There are also sign posts to the hotel where they are needed, but it’s easy enough with 4G available and Google maps. The room was excellent. The bed was extremely comfortable, the shower had good pressure and maintained it’s heat. But just being able to open the curtains in the morning and see the countryside is worth it. The owners seem lovely, though unfortunately my Spanish is not very good so we only shared a few words. I also didn’t eat there but the view from the dining room is just fantastic. It’s also a short walk from the caves of Altamira if you’re down for an enlightening journey into the history of the area. The museum blew my mind. Even if you don’t do the caves, I recommend walking up there anyway just for the views of Herran and Santillana del Mar.

Beautifully kept, exceptionally clean, lovely hostess was very helpful and patient! The breakfast was plentiful and varied. Excellent value for money.

The posada is beautiful, with lovely views. We had the room in the attic with beams, views and a bath. It was cosy and warm and exceptionally well presented and clean. Large car park. The breakfast was delicious. Lydia was very friendly. This is a better place than most 5 star accommodations that we have stayed in. I can thoroughly recommend it.

Beautiful old building close to Altamira. Family owned business. Hosts were very friendly. Rooms with stone walls. Loved it.

Room was extremely comfortable and scrupulously clean. Breakfast was continental and very adequate for only €4 our person. The lady who looked after us was polite and very helpful. Would highly recommend.
