I had a good time with Jose and his family. The room is small, and pretty hot, but with mosquito nets and a powerful ventilator. Kitchen was made available during the evening and wifi worked decently despite the power outages.

Sometimes the room was chaotic and noisy, since it was on the ground floor close to the living room. Around the neighborhood there is not much services. The only option to eat is to either go out, or have a home delivery.

Everything was perfect. The host was amazing and very helpful. The food was also really good. Room was big and clean, AC and hot water worked perfectly. Location was near the backwaters yet quiet

This place was a very nice experience for us. The room was very cute and clean, the family and staff were really helpful. They organize a boat trip for us , and was super good. They also prepare food for us, We had a real Keralan gastronomy experience. We were looking for vegan food, something really hard around this area, and they prepare for us a delicious meal, tasty, original and healthy. I highly recommend this place. Thank you!

Very good rooms, great traditional Kerala food, and nice, welcoming family

Clean homestay, with staff that really go out of their way for you. One of the best things about this homestay is that it’s completely mosquito proof. Also, the hot water worked without any problems which was not the case for the other homestays I stayed in in Kerala. Delicious keralan food is served on request for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and Jose has a houseboat so can arrange tours of the backwaters. It’s also well located - not too far from the main city but the homestay itself is nice and quiet.

As far as I know, there’s nowhere to refill your water bottle, but bottled water is easily available from the fridge. (20 rupees for a litre)

The location is good, close to the bus station. The homemade breakfast is delicious. The room is very clean (I have high standards for hygiene) and covered with mosquito nets, which is a necessity in Kerala. The owner Jose is friendly and trustworthy, so I booked the houseboat trip with him too.

The property is beautiful and in a quiet, friendly neighbourhood in Alappuzha. The guest rooms are very private, clean and comfortable with hot water showers. There is also a kitchen for guests to use with water and drinks available. The food that we had for breakfast was delicious and it was great to try some authentic Keralan food that can’t be found in restaurants.

The host (Jose) and his family were lovely. They were happy to provide us with tips and help for all our needs. We were also lucky enough to stay during the mango season, and as they have few mango trees, they kindly offered us mango platters at no extra costs. The room is just as advertised in the pictures, quite spacious, with an ensuite bathroom and with a powerful A/C and fan units. They provided towels, soap, toilet paper, as well as an electric vapourizer mosquito killer. The room is also protected by mosquito nets in all windows, so as long as you keep all the windows and the door close, you will be safe of mosquitoes. It is also very easy to walk to the bus station, to town, and to the main backwater canal from the accommodation, but if you prefer they are also happy to help you out with tuk tuk hiring. We opted for having breakfast and cold water from them. The kerala breakfast was delicious, varied, and at a good price, and having the option of cold bottle water at the property at the same price as the shops was very convenient

In the beginning, we were a bit surprised as our room was inside the main house where the family lives, and we needed to cross their living room to enter the room. However, Jose and his family are very welcoming and very quite, so this wasn't an issue.

I highly recommend Kalappura Homestay. My friend and I really enjoyed our stay there. Jose and Rooney (his brother) are very nice, welcoming and helpful. Your well-being is their top priority and they are going to do everything possible to make you feel at home. You just need to let them know if there is any sort of issue and they will solve it within a short time. They also genuinely dispose an electric racket for mosquitoes which is awesome. The house is well placed (nice short walk to several restaurants) and very quiet at night. They propose a lot of activities like kayaking, houseboat (Jose has is own company and propose really good price), canoeing ect… Jose also helped us getting our bus to Munnar, drove us there and made sure we got into the right bus. If we come back to Allepey we will go back there 100%!

Spacious clean rooms with mosquito nets

Kalappura homestay is like a home away from home. We absolutely loved our time here and can't wait to return. We instantly felt welcomed and we were blown away by the kindness of all the staff. It is evident that they are really passionate about what they do. Every person we encountered was so friendly, and always ready to help whether it be by suggesting activities, helping arrange transport or anything else! The place serves amazing home cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner for very reasonable prices. The food was so good we ate breakfast and dinner here every night during our stay. Everything was fresh and delicious, and there was a great variety of veg and non veg options. The hosts told us about all the dishes we tried, and we even learned a cool way to cut pineapple. The room was very comfortable and spacious, with plenty of storage if needed. The wifi was reliable and worked in the room and in the upstairs terrace/dining area. On arrival we recieved a message with lots of useful information about the place, which was really helpful! The location is really good, situated on a quiet street but within walking distance of the town. Staff will help arrange a tuk tuk too if you need to go further. I highly recommend staying in this wonderful place!

Stay was great.

Great location with lovely clean spacious modern rooms. The owner Jose is absolutely fantastic with organising tours, transport etc. Lovely home cooked meals are available and we had the pleasure or enjoying dinner with Jose while learning about local culture and customs. A lot of work has gone into making this homestay so perfect so I really recommend everyone visiting Alleppey visits the Kalapura Homestay.

The assistance and help of Jose and his family, with special mention to Robin. They made a great effort to make us feel home and we even get a room upgrade. We rented a 24h Houseboat through him and the experience was wonderful. He even followed up our time there to assure that we were happy with it. Highly recommended.

Don't forget your insect repellent in Alleppey ;) Even though the room was mosquito-proof, 1-2 got inside. Just use the mosquito net provided :)

Lovely homestay in a peaceful location in bustling Allepey. The owner Jose provided great pre-arrival info, very kindly upgraded our room and was always on hand to answer questions or give advice. The bed was very comforable and the room spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were very tasty too. Special mention to Ronnie too who was very helpful and good company.

Jose the host was very helpful, he is a very interesting man with great ecological approach to his guesthouse. Comfortable beds, hot showers, excellent breakfast and even better evening meals. Cold water and beers for additional price on hand. Good location between both between the beach (40min walk, busy but good for sunset) and backwaters. Jose organised a pleasant backwater tour for us- 2500 for both of us, simple breakfast and lunch included. Would recommend Kallapura homestay highly

Bad mannered staff. They tried to sell us overpriced tickets for the backwater boat. When we found a reasonable price somewhere else, they were rude and uncooperative. Much smaller room than advertised. There were visible bugs and mosquitos. The air conditioning was broken, the fan was inadequate, with no ventilation in the rooms - so a summer stay would be unbearable. No tea service.
