The home was beyond exceptional. Great location.

This property is better than the pictures (which says a lot!) The decor and furniture was done very well and super comfortable. A fenced in back yard was great to unwind in after full days. We were very close to rafting, zip lining, hiking and food. Canon City is a great place full of history, natural beauty and activities.

This is the best VRBO house I've ever stayed in and we have stayed in several over the years. Host is 5 star. House is very clean and impeccably decorated. Contains everything you need from towels, to sheets, to shampoo/lotion, just bring your suitcase. House is in a quiet area and is walking distance to downtown area, park, hiking trails and more. Very comfortable in square footage size to accommodate our 7 adult family. Backyard with hot tub is a very relaxing area. Would recommend to anyone and already have.

We came down from Denver area to visit the Royal Gorge. With two small children we decided to make it a weekend since our Littles can really only handle one thing a day, having a kitchen to cook (as opposed to having to go out for every meal) was key. The beds were all very comfortable, the ac units in the upstairs rooms were key. We had coffee out back every morning and made smores out back at night. The hot tub made it feel like an oasis. The best part was the kids got a full weekend with their Nana and Auntie, and played games in the game room. The house had everything and we were truly able to relax and enjoy our weekend. Wishing we'd have made it a 3 day weekend. Kevin was a fantastic host as well - you can tell he cares about his properties, his town and his guests.

The home was beautifully staged and the lighting was incredible. The kitchen draws you in and then you have to decide to go out back and enjoy the peaceful setting with the water feature or stay inside and just take in the decor. The gas grill and gas fire table were great additions to allow us to entertain family. The home is close to everything, but yet far enough to not have the traffic or noise that comes with congestion. We were able to text the owner with questions that were answered immediately. You can tell they take great pride in their property and really cared about our experience! We will definitely stay here again if it is available next time we are in town!

My family visited Cañon City for a funeral and decided to all come together and stay in this house instead of separate hotel rooms. The pictures don’t do this house justice! It’s just stunning, top to bottom. Kevin greeted us at the house and gave us a tour. The house is decorated perfectly. No expense was spared. The sheets- so soft. Memory foam mattresses. Turkish bath towels and Beekman 1802 bath products in all bathrooms. The kitchen is loaded with all the appliances you’ll need, although I do recommend bringing plastic bags for food storage as we didn’t find any food storage containers. The hot tub was delightful- but I’d recommend bringing a swimsuit you don’t love because my red swimsuit is now a delightful shade of coral (which I actually like!). Bottom line- if you’re looking for a place that’s close to everything and great for a group, this place is for you. Bravo Kevin!!

This place was beautifully finished and perfectly accommodating. Definitely one of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed! The host were great and bent over backwards to get us booked. I highly recommend this stay for couples or families and large groups as there are plenty of comfortable beds. The hot tub just topped everything else off.

A Step Back Inn is a very beautifully restored & decorated home, cozy and quaint, yet modern & roomy. Its layout and function is for modern life & family, with efficient use of space, and plenty of amenities. The kitchen, dining and sitting areas are perfect for family meals, fun games, reading, and relaxation. Backyard patio & table is great for an outdoor meal, with soothing sounds of the water fountain, or just a lazy afternoon nap after a white water rafting trip. Upstair bedrooms with vaulted ceilings and dormers invite you to an evening of relaxation. The chair couch at the landing invites you to just sit down and relax. The choice of hand soap, shampoo, lotion, soft towels, and linens are superb. The lightings sets the mood of each room. The tin ceiling and antique decoration reminds you the history of the house and its surrounding town. Kevin is a great host, who explained everything about the house to us clearly at checkin. Just as our family enjoyed our white water rafting trip very much, we enjoyed our time and stay at the A Step Back Inn, which allowed us a brief moment to step back in time, relax, and rejuvenate, before we head back to our hustle & bustle life at work and school. A Step Back Inn is definitely a great choice for us, we highly recommend it to anyone who visit Canon City.

Quaint home with perfect location to all the attractions

We very much enjoyed our brief staycation in Canon City. The house was great - super comfortable, spaces for everyone, and lovely decor. We could walk to the park for playing by the river, soccer, or the playground. The neighborhood is quiet and safe - our girls could go by themselves even. We also enjoyed the quick walk to the downtown restaurants in the cute Main Street area. Kevin and Rich were excellent hosts and made their house a real home away! Thanks!

The wife & I had a blast in this quaint & nicely remodeled home. It's old school charm meets modern tech in a very usable configuration. Once this COVID-19 disaster is over we plan on renting this property again with a group of friends.

Oh my goodness! This house is AMAZING! So adorable and had everything we needed! Used this weekend as a girls/team building retreat and the cuteness and welcome factor was a huge plus for us! Thank you Kevin for such an adorable retreat house!

Immaculate home with beautiful very up-to-date decor. Everything you could want in a house-first class toiletries, kitchen appliances, dishes, tvs. You name it. The appliances range from Keurig and Cuisinart coffeemakers to ice cream-sorbet maker, panini and waffle press. Beautiful kitchen. The outdoor area is so peaceful with a water fall, hot tub, etc. Stayed all over the world and I think we could absolutely call this the best-who could imagine in Canon City?

There are so many extras that this property has i couldn't even list them all. Immaculate landscaping, meticulous attention to detail, and extras galore. If we ever get back to Canon City we will definitely stay here!

Great service nice patio for dinner and relaxation

We came to Colorado for a week and hiked, rafted, saw amazing wildlife, ate good food and visited the Sand Dunes. When I asked my husband what his favorite part of the trip was, he said this house!! This house was a real treat with a huge kitchen with anything you would ever need. It was also the cleanest place and most beautiful place we've ever stayed. The house has original and historical touches but modern technology like USB chargers by the beds and built-in nightlight on the stairs. The tvs are all custom-framed and on pivoting hinges on the wall. When we arrived, the owner Kevin met us at the front and showed us where to drive to access the carport behind the house via an alley a few houses down. The alley has some potholes and overgrown vines behind some of the other properties, but this actual property was immaculate. He took the time to show us the yard and house. The back has a wonderful fountain, dining table, seating area and a hot tub all paved with historic Royal Gorge bricks. There is one small bedroom at the back where you could hear the sound of the fountain. There was a beverage refrigerator in the back entry/foyer with complimentary drinks for us too! So sweet and appreciated. There are two bedrooms downstairs and one hall bathroom with a tub/shower. Upstairs has two bedrooms and two bathrooms with showers. The upstairs was a little warmer than the downstairs, but we were there during the hottest time in the middle of summer. The upstairs master bedroom had a ceiling fan which worked for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay here and would love to return again. It was so pretty and gorgeously finished and decorated. You will probably be oohing and awing as much as we were! Kevin has really thought of every detail. Just warning you that you won't want to leave!

This home is a little gem in a fantastic town. I felt like I was in a home right out of HGTV. The little park down the street is so fun - I just can’t really say enough about how wonderful this area and home are!

The online pictures do not do this place justice. Sure it looks nice in the pictures but in person it absolutely blew us away. The inside is spacious, very updated and welcoming (and the kitchen is to die for). The backyard is a little oasis that we spent time in every evening. The location is walking distance to a wonderful park, only minutes from the great restaurants on main street and about 10 minutes from the rafting companies. Kevin was very welcoming and extremely responsive when we had any questions. Absolutely A+ all around and we will definitely be back!

We spent the weekend for a girls trip and birthday celebration. Upon arrival, we met Kevin to give us a tour of the house and ALLL is its amenities. He is absolutely the nicest. We were surprised and amazed at the house, as it’s pictures do NOT do it justice! It’s way bigger than I expected and the decor was stunning. Intricate detail was made throughout the entire home and every bathroom was stocked with really nice soaps, lotions, shampoo and conditioner. The backyard was our main hangout. The waterfall and Edison lights were so beautiful. Kevin went over the top on this home and it shows!! I would definitely stay again!!!! Thanks Kevin for an amazing weekend!!

First of all this home is amazing. Kevin is by far the best owner we have ever met. The house is decorated beautifully and very homey. The back yard was also so peaceful. The house was equipped with everything we needed. We will definitely be back thank you so much !

It's hard to know where to begin! First, Kevin himself is lovely. We got the opportunity to meet when we checked in. He showed us around the house, which he renovated himself, and answered my endless questions about finishes and processes. I felt like I was chatting with an old friend. The house is immaculately decorated. It was so fun to inspect all the tile and woodworking....I left with lots of ideas for my own home! Everything was thought of to provide comfort for guests. Tons of cookware and service dishes. TONS! Lots of coffee options and a Keurig. Water and soda and any spice you could ever ask for. This is hands down the best equipped vacation rental we have ever stayed in! The sheets were luxurious, the beds extremely comfortable, and plenty of linens plus robes for all guests. Each room is equipped with a smart TV. The lighting in this house is top notch! Such fun details that I have never before seen that proved to be super useful during our stay. The designer/electrician is truly gifted! Bonus...USB outlets everywhere! Aside from being beautiful, the house was SPOTLESS! Not a spec of dust anywhere. One of the most wonderful things we encountered during our stay was all the deer in the neighborhood! We sat on the lovely porch and had 11 within 8 feet of us at one point. So fun to watch. We will definitely visit again and stay in Kevin's house when things open back up in Cañon City! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
