We stayed at The Californian this past weekend as part of birthday celebrations with a friend. Alastair and Glen are fabulous hosts. Their communication was absolutely spot on, and they were promptly available if you needed them for anything during the stay. The accommodation is spectacular. We have visited Ballarat on many occasions and stayed in other hosted properties and a Luxury Boutique hotel, and I can comfortably say that this is the best place we have stayed. The fitout and quality of furniture and amenities is first class. The location is excellent, with a 5 minute walk to the restaurants and bars, and the outdoor area is fabulous (when the Ballarat weather is in a good mood). We would absolutely stay at The Californian again. Thanks Alastair and Glen for having us.

Stayed at this amazing property earlier this month and have just re booked! From the moment you walk in it is apparent the owners not only have great syle but have thought of every thing that you would desire in a home away from home - attention to detail is fabulous particularly in the kitchen and bathrooms. The house is spotless with high quality appliances, linens etc, all making the house so very comfortable and functional. Heating is superb! The house is also well positioned close to the city centre enabling a short walk to some of Ballarat's best cafes and restaurants. Alistair and Glen have also left a list of recommended eating out venues that we tried and they did not disappoint! A short walk to Lake Wendouree, and only 3 mins further you can be walking around Victoria Park. Absolutely the best place to stay if you want to immerse yourself in all that Ballarat has to offer.

From the moment we walked in we were absolutely blown away with this house. Not only was everything absolutely spotless with only the highest quality household decor & linens - the home is a masterpiece. Every detail has been thought about carefully - the home is beautiful, functional and so comfortable. I also loved the beautiful quirky vintage pieces around the home - they added so much personality to the stay. There are a lot of nice places to stay, however this one is really special and such an experience in itself. Whoever is responsible for the interior design has a gift. The beautiful hosts had amazing communication following up, checking in and were really organised even when we wanted to add an extra night to our stay last minute. The beds were absolutely lush - with beautiful pillows and soft sheets. You can tell the hosts really genuinely care and have gone over and above with all the beautiful, quality details you will find. Thank you so much for such a beautiful stay - our family will remember it forever and we will be recommending you to everyone!

The hosts have provided a home away from home including all the comforts you could think of. The venue of the property is ideal and the surroundings are quiet with plenty of parking available. Easy walking to cafes and restaurants with the added bonus of the property being dog friendly :) An open fire-place stocked with wood and plenty of board games to play into the evening are also supplied. Terrific hosts who are available if required but leave you to enjoy your stay. We loved our stay and will be back.

A wonderful house! Fully renovatedto such a high standard. Attention to detail is amazing. The house is immaculately clean. Its spacious and comfortable. So much thought has gone into the renovation. Incredibly comfortable. Easily the best property that we have stayed in over many years. Excellent location too - quiet but so close to the main street of Ballarat. I cannot recommend this one highly enough! Can't wait to return. Thanks to the hosts - they are so helpful and communicative.

This is the second time we have stayed in one of Alastair and Glen’s properties. As with our first stay, our stay this time was again most enjoyable, due to the location of the property – in the heart of the Ballarat CBD – and the well-appointed house. Alastair and Glen are terrific host’s, their house has everything to make your stay as effortless as possible, from the unlimited amount of crockery, glassware and cutlery in the kitchen to the three great bathrooms with top quality personal washing products and extra soft, absorbent towels. You are certainly made to feel welcome and at home in Alastair and Glen’s home stay. All you need is yourself and some food.

The house was fantastic, the styling inside was amazing and the beds were so comfortable. We stayed here for our wedding weekend and could not have wished for anymore. Alastair and Glen were amazing to deal with.

My daughters and I had a great time at the Californian. We thoroughly enjoyed everything the place had to offer, great taste, comfortable beds and spacious bathrooms. The owner generously offered way more than expected of supplies for the whole family from flour to spices to tea to dog treats. Plus it’s so close to Ballarat Central, we could have had a wonderful time just staying in. Will definitely be back again.

This is a beautiful house! Lovely kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms (with comfortable beds), plenty of space (two living areas). We were able to walk to cafes, restaurants, yoga. The hosts provided very detailed and easy to follow instructions for everything. They were very responsive and provided heaps of great suggestions for us in terms of local places to eat etc

We loved our stay at Alastair and Glen's house. Alastair and Glen are great hosts who were easy to communicate with. The house has a brilliant layout, and was perfect for four friends catching up, but would also be good for two families. The beds were very comfortable, the sheets and towels luxurious. The heating (including fireplace) made it cosy; the kitchen is exceptionally well stocked and they have honestly thought of every detail to make it a comfortable and relaxing stay. It is an easy 5 minute walk to the centre of town and we loved the wine bars, restaurants, gallery and shopping. We will definitely be back! Thanks so much for having us to stay.

This property was expertly designed but with comforts and small finishes that allowed it to still feel like home. So thankful for the amazing property managers who ensured we arrived and assisted with all welcome needs. We loved staying here, so close to the main resultants and night life. Would highly recommend this property for a winter escape with friends or romantic stay.

Lovely house, very well appointed and comfortable. Description and photos on website are an accurate representation. Lots of welcoming touches and excellent communication from the hosts. Everything we needed for an enjoyable family weekend, will book again when next in town.

The property exceeded expectations in both cleanliness and the spacious layout. The location was brilliant within walking distance to shops and cafes I highly recommend it. The communication was prompt and clear.

We stayed at The Californian with the whole family. The house was absolutely fantastic, everything from the well-supplied kitchen through to the curated pieces in every room. Really well located, max 10 mins walk from pretty much anything that would be needed. Alastair and Glen were super helpful with their recommendations too. Would definitely recommend and will keep an eye out next time we're in Ballarat!

From beginning to end, our visit to The Californian was faultless. Alastair and Glen provided clear and welcoming arrival and exit information and the property itself is definitely 5 star. Comfy beds, hot showers, all modern amenities, and plenty of space for our family of 6 to spread out and feel at home. The fire-place in particular was very welcoming given the slightly chilly weather. The property itself is so close to central Ballarat and the sight-seeing we were doing. Biggest bonus was that we could have our pet there as well. We will definitely be thinking of staying here should we visit again, and would definitely recommend to family and friends. There was nothing about the location, accommodation, or the communication with the hosts that wasn't top-notch.
