The room was clean, the bed very comfortable (thick mattress), and the bathroom had hot water (even though there is no shower). The Homestay is 10 minutes away from city center on foot, but on the plus side it's really quiet at night, even during high season. The host and his son were both available and very helpful.

It is a simple but comfortable room, as shown in the pictures. They provided towels and body soap. The bathroom has a bucket shower with hot and cold water. Munar can get quite chilly overnight, but they provided us with thick blankets, which worked like a charm. Our host was also happy to give tips on what to explore in the area according to your interests. There are restaurants and shops at walking distance, and it is easy to walk to one of the tea plantations for free.

Initially, we were a bit disappointed with the bucket shower, but to be honest, it works really well. Also it can ve a little bit tricky to spot the accommodation at first, but there is a grocery/tea shop just at the street where booking.com shows and you can either follow the signs at the street or ask the man at the grocery shop (brother of the host/owner) and.you will reach the place.

The owner and his son,both are very cooperative and helpful. Calm and quiet atmosphere. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean. The kitchen and living room are very useful.

Bathroom is somewhat congested. The way to homestay and the parking area is also congested.But everything is adjustable and feeling good.

Carmel homestay is a bit outside of the center of Munnar which was great for us as it was nice and quiet. The hosts were very helpful offering a trip to the elephant crossing (unfortunately no elephants). The room was clean and they gave us a towel on demand. There was hot water in the bathroom but no shower.

Carmel Homestay is not in Munnar proper, but in New Colony 1.7 km up from Munnar bus stand. The hamlet borders the tea plantations and is more quiet than downtown Munnar and is still within walking distance. Made great hikes from the homestay to Periyavarai and Carmelgiri through the Reserve Forest. Facilities are basic, but all the necessities are there: hot water, drinking water (boiled), WiFi and closeby are a tea shop and some basic eateries (dinners after 6PM). There is also a terrace overlooking the valley. The rooms are light with good views and with comfortable beds. The place is kept very clean and the hosts go out of their way to support you. A son who speaks good English is online helping out in case of communication problems.

Transportation to and from Munnar is along a busy road. I walked up and down every day, but it is not the most pleasant experience. Autorickshaws are plenty, but it is not always possible to get a correct (local) price. If you arrive at the bus stand and want to take a rickshaw keep in mind that locals pay 50 or 60 Rs for the whole rickshaw. If you share with others it is 20 Rs uphill and 10 Rs downhill, but I often saw five people in one rickshaw. So with luggage it will be hardly possible. Quote your destination "Colony Masjid Jamaat". From the mosque it is 5 minutes walk on foot down a narrow alleyway (on the right if continuing from the direction you came from). There is a sign, but it is not well posted. In case of need ask locals for help. The name of the hostel runner is Sebastian ( a person most locals know). People are friendly and welcome visitors. About autorickshaw drivers in general: don't let them ruin your India experience. I did not take a rickshaw even once during my two months in India. If you decide to use them avoid conflict and be flexible. Never start bargaining if you do not know the price. Uber is a good tool to estimate distance and price.
