Stunning beachfront hotel, with calm clear waters. Service was generally excellent and the food/drinks were good on the all inclusive plan. Beautiful sunsets!

Outstanding staff and customer service - incredibly attentive and accommodating and always willing to go beyond expectations to make your experience special. Hugely grateful for a wonderful stay. The chefs and food were also absolutely brilliant.

Not only the hotel is beautiful, the staff were all friendly and welcoming. I love it here. I felt like a secret home. I wish I stayed longer.

Loved the design of the hotel. Low level buildings spread out along the beach front. A lot of guests however felt more like a boutique than a large resort. Location on the west coast was ideal for watching the sunset. Lots of birds and fruit bats, on a clear night you can see the stars so clear and bright. The room design was modern and stylish and had everything you need. TV not many English channels. Would have been good to cast iPad but couldn’t get it working. Staff were overall very good and attentive.often asking us if we were happy with everything at the hotel A la carte restaurants were very good however half board credit doesn’t go very far towards bill. Buffet had a good selection however we felt the overall standard could have been better. Would have been good to have a set a la carte menu at the main restaurant at breakfast and dinner. Would also be a benefit to use half board at lunchtime if you wanted to eat out in the evening. Citronella and Buddha beach had very good food and service. The sister hotel, La Pirogue Magenta especially good. Used most of the facilities at the hotel. Gym well equipped and staff all very helpful. Spa also very nice. Massages very good. Used the tennis courts however disappointed at having to pay to rent rackets and balls £10 per session. My partner played golf at both tamirina and ile aux Cerfs. No green fees was great however buggy and golf club rental coming to £100 ish. Entertainment very good.

Lovely location, and from what I saw the best beach front by far. The hotel has good excursions and you can book them in at the front with your own taxi to take you and wait for as long as you need. The Three restaurants are brilliant, offering a wide range of food, and what’s a resort without a breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet. A good range of foods in the buffets which changed daily. Staff always on hand for anything you need, and overall for me the best place to stay when In Mauritius.

Helpful personel, beautiful hotel and grounds. Nice beach but very disappointing that we couldn’t really swim and bathe in the ocean because there were only 50 cm of depth and so many pieces of coral that you risk cutting yourself if you don’t wear shoes. There were also a lot of seaweed. We ended up swimming in the pool and not at all in the sea. The pool are is nice and there is a nice bar. They play semi loud lounge music the whole time and the pool cleaning system is making disturbing noices all around the pool.if you want a relaxing quit pool there is quiet pool a bit further away from the main pool. There is some vet mice and active people organizing volleyball, pool basketballl, waterpolo etc everyday for free by the pool. Very fun and nice activities. For a small sum one can book the outdoor paddle court and the tennis courts. That was very fun too. The air conditioning sights are spread on a few sights outside the hotelroom buildings and they are very noicy, but you can’t hear them when you close the door to the room. It does take away a bit from the idyllic natural sounds of the tropics when you walk outside though. All in all we thought the hotel was vey nice and worth the visit but the beach was not adequate. Next time we would choose to stay on a hotel resort on the northern part of the island where the beaches are better.

Another great stay at Sugar Beach. This is some of the best service I've received in Mauritius. I'm sure everyone is mandated to smile and say 'bonjour' to guests, but beneath that corporate exterior are genuinely friendly, funny, attentive people. I had real conversations and felt very well looked after. Standouts included Reshma on reception, the door guys, Bianca and the girl doing the fried eggs at breakfast, the juice trainee, but especially the pool bar staff. Fazle and the other servers were helpful and great with my kids. The nurse really helped me out with advice and calling the doctor when my daughter was sick. Needless to say, the hotel, food and facilities were great.

Wonderful property with Nicely decorated rooms and common spaces. Service in the main dining room was very slow and unorganized. The Italian restaurant was very good. Bruno made every meal at Citronella Restaurant enjoyable.

The colonial style of the property has its own appeal if you like that sort of thing. It was quite different from other places. What I appreciated the most was the empowered staff determined and able to please. They put customers first, not the rules and regulations. The lovely walkable beach was also a special delight.

This is a fantastic resort. The location is great, the premises are amazing and the staff were even better - all really friendly and welcoming. Plenty of things to do for people who love sports and also for people who just want to relax. A really perfect destination.

Compared to the attitude of staff in other places this far surpasses what I've seen before. Maybe it's enforced, but it didn't feel like it. The facilities are pretty good, used the pool and the kids club service and was pleased. Didn't get to use spa and gym so can't comment. Rooms are large and well-equipped although some of the finishing touches need upgrading. It's not walking distance to the main bit of flic en flac but there is a cheap bus from outside and taxis. I almost forgot, the food is plenty and delicious, especially sea food and curries. Would go back again.

The stay was absolutely fantastic. Staff and management were great.

Even though its was 4 times higher priced over xmas and nye, it was still the best option for us for our family holiday. We got to really just kick back and enjoy the resort and all it has to offer which includes all facilities at its sister hotel as well. The beach in Flic n Flac is absolutely the best. Better than all others on the island. Tremendous thanks to Arvin who is a superstar at the resort and really went out of his way to ensure our stay was more than pleasant. The guys at the pool service and beach service are also commended for their great service. The Xmas and NYE gala dinners and events were amazing and quality of food. Thank you Sugar Beach. The newly renovated rooms are awesome. Steer clear from old manor house rooms which are ancient.. (my advise). Thanks Sugar Beach. We will be back for sure. Family with two 5 year-old kids stayed on half-board. After a bad checkin-experience where we had to wait for the room to be cleaned (1,5h) the hotel really did a good job compensating for it. The plus: - Hotel pool is great, lush and huge, never feels crowded. - Good service, like room service is really fast and taxi:s are easy to get. - Super nice kids club with a lot of fun activities, more varied than other kids clubs we've been to, like wind-surfing and glass-bottom boat as examples. The bad: - When we had two nights left and tried to book a table (in the morning) at buddha bar by the beach for evening dinner, but turned out to be fully booked, so reservations need to be made several days before the dinner to be able to dine at any other restaurant than the main one. - Also, the italian restaurant by the beach not very service minded. Wanted a takeout stone-oven-made pizza and came 2 minutes too late (03.02 pm) and was told the closed 03.00pm. A bit of flexibility there would be nice, since the chef was there and did his last pizzas for the lunch anyway. - A bit far from supermarkets/stores. First supermarket is a 10-minute walk, and the shopping mall is about 10 minutes of taxi (1000 rupies roundtrip) However, overall, I'd strongly recommend this one, the bad things were probably a bit of bad luck. Actually we stayed at Hilton afterwards, next door, and I'd say sugar beach is a better family choice. Fells more up-to-date with everything.

Beautiful beach, some of the best grounds ever seen for a 5 star hotel, and modern room.Negatives are the very expensive drinks... £10 for a larger beer or 14 for a decent cocktail!

Pros: Rooms recently renovated, nice decor, room right in front of the beach, some of the hotel restaurants (the budha bar especially) are very high quality.Cons: Very bad level of service. We reserved a king bed room and got a room with two seperate beds. No apology, no compensation, the staff seemed to behave like this was our fault. One clerk offered to send someone to pull the beds together, he never did, after full day of waiting they remembered that they cant pull the beds together because its a newly renovated room.The rate included buffet dinner which was very low quality (def. not 5 start level), but worse yet, when we asked for plain WATER we were told dinner doesnt include drinks and you have to pay for WATER. In other news, air condition only worked some of the time. The hotel looks nice but service is everything and they have a lot to learn on that department.

Sugar Beach is the best hotel on the west coast of Mauritius. We go there every year, we love everything about it. It is currently undergoing renovations but we were not at all disturbed by it as it was happening on the North side villas. The staff in the hotel are outstanding and we were delighted to have been invited to have a cocktail with 2 Guest relations staff. It was great to spend time with two genuine people that have a great passion about their job. Food and drink were high standard in the Buddha Bar and the buffet for dinner was also outstanding. We will definately come back again next year and stay in the newly renovated villas which we were lucky enough to have had a look at before we left the hotel.
