The only reason for 4 stars is the building is not new, but I had a really lovely stay and the staff were very helpful. Everything felt luxury except for the price. I especially appreciated the outdoor bar/cafe and the bountiful complimentary breakfast.

The hotel exceeded my expectations. The staff was professional, friendly, and hospitable. While a bit dated it is refreshingly elegant. Sometimes it seemed like a ‘ Downton Abbey experience. Breakfast was quite lovely. I would love to return to this hotel!

This is a magnificent and historic property located centrally right off the shoreline. The entrance and entire first floor are truly stunning for their beauty and elegance. The hotel grounds include a secluded and beautiful pool, well tended garden and restaurant with a perfect setting for outdoor dining, which includes the breakfast. And now about the staff: they deserve nothing but our highest compliments for the professional, courteous yet friendly service they provide. The front desk, especially Manny, provide the highest level of service and made our experience wonderful. The waiters at the restaurant are also to be praised. The restaurant serves local specialties with fresh ingredients and with flair. We were delighted with every aspect of our stay which occurred during our anniversary.

My wife and I stayed at this beautiful hotel in 2001 and loved it then. This time we brought our college aged kids with us, and it was so great to share the experience with them. Simply a gorgeous property inside and out. Beautiful, old-world feel inside and an inviting pool area outside (although too cold to enjoy when we were there). Perfect central location within walking distance of the main beach, the Bay of Silence, and numerous restaurants and bars. And easy train access to the Cinque Terre. The staff was friendly and helpful. Excellent complimentary breakfast with lots to choose from. We highly recommend the Villa Balbi!

This hotel was a short ride from Cinque Terre and was our home base for a week in Sept. We fell in love with Sestri Levante along the way and the hotel was central and convenient to everything this amazing town had to offer. Wonderful staff and beautiful historic hotel. Beach across the street. A gem.

An amazing historic hotel, full of baroque paintings and chandeliers. I was fortunate to come in the off-season, I would happily come back. Thanks for making a great stay at the end of a long bike ride.

Very nice hotel

The building is beautiful, the room charming and the bed and pillows are very comfortable. Slept like a baby. There is a pool but the chairs get taken quickly. Pool towels are not included. The hotel has its own beach but you have to make reservation in advance. It cost 50 Euro for 2 beds at the beach and beach towels are not included. There is a beach just over the street a few meters to the right that cost half the price. It is not as fancy but the beds are the same. It is not a cheap hotel for the standard you get. The breakfast is nice with lots of choices but I am getting a bit tired of the Corona way that you can´t pick your own food from the buffé. That is not the hotels fault. They are just following the instructions. The staff is not the friendliest. I would not stay here again.

We spent 4 nights at this lovely hotel and we loved it! The room was spacious, elegant and very comfortable. The staff was efficient and helpful. The breakfast was good. The location is excellent, has lots of options, but wasn’t as crowded as others in the region, close and well connected to Cinque Terre. Definitely recommend the Villa Balbi and hope to come back soon!

Perfect location and a charming classy hotel

Stayed for 3 nights of which 2 days the hotel did not have WiFi service for some technical reasons. This caused multiple problems with some work I had to do. Air conditioner did not work well in our room. First 2 nights did not operate. Very sticky sleep. Last night, suddenly it began working. Considering we were in a suite and the historical prestige of the property, overall, this was a major disappointment. This was our second stay in this hotel and certainly the last!

Very good location but old structure with poor maintenance. The room was old and smell old. Took 15 minute to get the hot water in the shower. Air condition without possibility to adjust. Personnel was kind and collaborative. More a 3 star than 4...

The hotel is one of the classic hotels in all of Italy. It combines old-world beauty and history with charm and a true art of service. Sestri is one of the great secrets of Italy and the Villa Balbi is the best hotel in Sestri. Aside from the great location and amenities, the service at the desk is world-class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

The building is old and the air condition did not work well in all 3 rooms we reserved. We had to change to smaller rooms where the air condition can work. However the hotel was very convenient to everything and was very nice. I would have a second thought of returning because of air condition. We also had door lock problem twice
