The accommodation was very cold when we arrived due to a power cut that had interrupted the heating app on the owner's phone, however after contacting the owner, she soon arrived and was able to manually restore the settings. She provided two small blow heaters and the place was warm within the hour.

I usually don’t write unflattering reviews, however we booked ‘The Lodge’ based on the positive reviews on Booking.com and we were so disappointed we wondered if we had booked the same place. The accommodation wasn’t particularly clean. There were food stains in the microwave as well as on one of the dinner plates. There wasn’t any side plates for toast or sandwiches and only one glass and no chopping board.The top of the fridge was dirty and there was dirt around the plug hole in the shower. The beds weren’t made very well and looked like they had been slept in. They hadn’t, but the linen was very crushed and the duvet was lumpy. Towels were put on the bed but not folded. There wasn’t a bath mat. While this may seem petty, it’s not what is to be expected for the price ‘The Lodge’ is charging. It’s attention to detail that makes a stay memorable and makes guests feel welcome as well as demonstrating that the owner is proud of their accommodation. There was none of this here. In an eight week road trip around the U.K. we have stayed in everything from Self-catering to Bed and Breakfasts and Hotels. We have been really impressed at how generous the hosts in the Self-catering places have been with provisions. At the very least there was coffee (often coffee bags), tea bags, milk (even if it was long-life) and biscuits. The Lodge only provided a canister of tea bags and sugar. No coffee or anything to make coffee in. It is also right on a busy road. While the traffic dies down later in the night, it started up very early waking us up. We left early the next morning. ‘The Lodge’ does not provide the level of service that reflects the price. It was by far, the least satisfactory place we stayed in in eight weeks.

Very smart and clean and tidy. Very comfortable with all the necessary bits you could need. Nice and warm. Comfy beds, lots of hot water. Very helpful in our arrival, as we arrived late, having got diverted. Ideal accommodation.

May have just been our late arrival and a little flustered, but we drove past it at first, then pulled in to the wrong driveway initially as it was dark and couldn't make out house signs, again may have just been us! Perfect cooker, but didn't realise we had to set the timer in the centre too, to actually get heat on. So had turned oven on, light but no heat. Maybe just us, maybe we missed an oven instruction somewhere. These things really wouldn't stop us staying again of course!
