We had a great time at this property. Came in with two adults and two young kids and the room we got was spacious with a private balcony. We got a reservation at the spa which was the best spa experience we have ever had - not to be missed. The staff was very friendly - gave us bottles of water, provided us with a fan since the room was hot despite the AC, and the shuttle to the parking was very convenient too. The location of the hotel is amazing as well. Would highly recommend this hotel and would love to come back when we visit Matera again.

Do not carry large suitcase as there have many many stone steps and extremely difficult to carry all the way along to hotel as google maps might fake you the wrong way. Besides of this, hotel staff are helpful and breakfast is good.

Magical. We stayed at one of the caves. The best experience ever. The view close by, was to die for. The cave was huge and cold. One day, we have to come back in a colder weather to try the spa.

WOW! We were blown away by this place! One of the best stays we have ever had. Perfect! If you are looking to visit Italy, I implore you to visit Puglia and Basilicata! If you are looking to come to Puglia and Basilicata, I implore you to visit Matera! If you are looking to visit Matera, I implore you to stay at Locanda di San Martino! Right in the heart of the Sassi old town in Matera, the former church of San Martino. An amazing setting in a beautiful historic building set into the rocks. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to use the Roman thermal baths, which means we will need to come back! We stayed in room 8, La Chiesa. A wonderful room, the back of which is cut into the rock, the rest finished in what looks like the same stone. Very classy and stylish room with whirlpool bath (unfortunately the jets weren't working for us) right in the room, with shower and toilet built in to the back. Very comfortable bed. Breakfast room was fabulous! Looks like it might have been the refectory, again built in to the rocks and finished with the same stone. Breakfast was continental and extensive. Delicious! Our stay was very reasonably priced too 🤗 A great location to explore Matera, but be prepared to walk up and down steep stairways. We only had one night here but will come back for more. We had a great view of the Sassi and our room was perfect for the family. Really enjoyed the air conditioning after walking around with the high temperatures. We also had a wonderful breakfast at the hotel.

Fantastic hotel located in the Sassy of Matera. It’s definitely worth booking a room with a balcony/city view as the view is fantastic. The room was clean enough but you’re staying in a cave so it’s not 100% pristine but more than acceptable. The bed wasn’t that comfortable but we slept well after all the walking around the city. The bathroom had a separate shower and bath unit with water jets which was great. The included continental breakfast was lovely offering a mixture of options and the staff were helpful and polite. There are a number of restaurants and shops nearby and you’re in the heart of the sassy but cars can still drive right up to the entrance steps. The spa is brilliant. Swimming and hydro pools as well as steam and sauna rooms are available for €25 per person per 1.5 hour visit. Definitely worth a visit especially to escape the heat in the afternoon. Even the locals confirmed that this is the best spa in Matera. We loved our stay here

This ‘cave hotel ‘ in the middle of the most picturesque manmade place in the world ( no, really) is an experience within the experience. The thermal spa is a 30 euro additional fee, but the staff overall are very accommodating and the Sassi never finishes it’s hypnotic charm.

Such a beautiful hotel, right in the heart of Matera. I loved our room, and the breakfast was great. I wish we’d had the time to try the spa, but even without it, everything was amazing!

What a fantastic experience. Picked up from Damasco car park, as recommended by hotel, very quickly. Room was amazing like living in a cave with door to table and chairs on a terrace with wonderful view of the ‘Sassi’. Recommend booking the Therme pool as this was something else and a luxury after a hot day sight seeing. Underground pool is a sight to behold. Breakfast was lovely with music being played firstly on piano then secondly on a harp. All staff very friendly and attentive. We feel very privileged to have stayed at this hotel. Matera is beautiful.

One of a kind place to stay in. Truly a great stay. Staff even stepped up to help with an early am departure that required shuttle service before they operate. Highly recommended.
