We really really enjoyed our 2 week stay in Joxeans flat in Deba. The flat was spacious for two of us and great that it was really cool inside even when 38 C outside. It is really well equipped for cooking and relaxing , including good wifi and things for fun on the beach. All the rooms were a good size. The small balcony off the kitchen gets great afternoon and evening sun and has a good view onto the hills. We enjoyed sitting on a couple of chairs reading. The balcony off the main bedroom is larger but doesnt get much sun - its good for drying the washing.Joxean gave us a good welcome, helped us park the car and gave us lots of information and recommendations about the variety of things to do. Theres plenty of leaflets in the flat. Generally small roads and parking can be tight in Deba in evenings and weekends when people come for the beach but where the flat is, is there are a few options. Deba is a great location, its only 10-15 minutes walk through town to a good beach. A few minutes to the supermarket. Its five minutes to the train station where theres an hourly service to San Sebastian and Bilbao and places in between. In fact wed say a car isnt needed! There are lots of lovely walks directly from the flat - we did a few that were circular and a few where we got a bus or train one way. The coast and hills were beautiful and particularly at low tide because of the geological flysch rocks.In Deba there are nice places to eat, not particularly touristy, a good friendly local feel. The tourists generally are those on the Camino de Santiago trail.Overall, a lovely flat with a helpful owner/host in a beautiful location and a relaxing holiday.

Positives: The apartment is well equipped with good facilities. Three nice bedrooms (2 double beds and one twin room) Kitchen has everything you need for a short stay. Location is excellent for both San Sebastian and Bilboa (and other local towns). Deba also has a nice beach New lifts in the apartment block. Negatives - (minor annoyances really) The streets around the apartment block are small (but not in a pretty way) which makes the on street parking a little tricky but generally you can find a spot. Water pressure in the shower was poor. The apartment block stairs and lobby are still being refurbished, and still needs final painting.

Joxean is the best representative of Deba and the Basque country

We also traveled to San Sebastian and little places by the sea like Zarautz and Getaria, one of our favourite spots during our stay. When we weren't travelling, we enjoyed very much Deba's beach, quite long and with lots of waves for the kids. All in all, it was a fantastic stay. Not having a parking space was indeed a problem, but we never spent too much time searching. In the end, we walked or took the train anyway. Thank you Joxean for such a lovely stay !

I, my fiance', and my two youngest children (college age) spent a week in Deba in this apartment and highly recommend it as a vacation spot in the delightful Basque region of Spain. Arrangements with Joxean, the owner, were smooth and pleasant. He greeted us upon arrival and treated us to local apple cider and cheese followed by an extensive discussion of the attractions in the region, complete with tons of brochures and helpful maps. The apartment was perfectly sized for our group and had all the amenities we needed. It was very clean and well kept. The location is good. I estimated an 8 minute walk to the beach, 1-3 minutes to markets, restaurants, bars, pharmacies. and the train station. Great beach with surfers and occasional topless woman. A pleasant 50 minute train ride will take you to glorious San Sebastian. The fantastic Geopark is nearby with outstanding hikes which take you to magnificent views of the unusual coastal regions. Finally, I must say that Joxean, our host, is a delightful, gregarious man who is an enthusiastic supporter and explainer of Basque culture, food, and attractions. Our last night I asked him to join us for dinner at the restaurant of his choice. Two of our party went hiking that morning and had not returned by 8 PM that night. Joxean helped us by talking to the local and regional police and showing up in person. When the hikers returned we all had an outstanding time at Urberu Sagardotegia (Cyder house Urberu), an authentic cider house in the hills nearby (to which Joxean commandeered a taxi there and back) Joxean showed us how to obtain unlimited cider directly from the barrels with spigots that spewed forth across the floor. The monkfish and steak were outstanding! Deba has almost no American tourists. We were often asked by residents why we had come there. The people are very friendly with varying amounts of English spoken. It is a delightful place to stay off the bean path of tourists.

The apartment was clean and very spacious and had everything you might need for a stay including things for the beach, although looking a bit tired in places, especially the patio.. The town is lovely and the beach is great - very clean and great waves, although it does take longer than 5 minutes to walk there - at least 10. Joxean, the owner provided a very good customer service. He is very accommodating and a mine of tourist information about the general area.Beautiful part of Spain too. Good local restaurants both on the beach and in town, all recommended by Joxean. All in all a good week.

Very good base for a beach holiday in a lovely small town, perfect for young children. The apartment is clean and spacious and has every facility you might need for your stay including things to take to the beach. The only cons are that it is a little tired - decoration wise, the outside space had limited use, and we would definitely say it takes more than 5 minutes to walk to the beach - 10 at least. Joxean, the owner, is very helpful and accommodating and a mine of tourist information about the local area. Beautiful part of Spain too.

Property description was accurate down to the essential Wifi. The apartment was clean and well maintained. Joxean met us and advised on all the tourist information leaving a supply of brochures on the attractions etc. Joxean was available to phone is required. We would return to the apartment. We travelled to Bilbao, San Sebastion, Getaria and Gernika arriving back in time to visit the beach. We travelled by car and train, the station being about 200 yards away. Meals in the square were good value and we enjoyed the Zahato Bar/Cafe. The area reminded us of a much warmer Donegal (Irish County). Alan

Joxean is a wonderful host and has great sightseeing information on the area (including train timetables etc). He was incredibly helpful from start to finish. We found the apartment was ideal for 4 adults and 1 toddler - had everything we needed including bucket and spade for the beach. We also found parking two cars nearby relatively easy.

We had a week in Joxean's flat in Deba. The flat itself is large, comfortable and very well equipped. It's within a few minutes of all the local shops, bars and restaurants. Joxean is a mine of information about the area - we agreed that the table in the flat would have made an excellent tourist information office! Deba is a small town - mainly a place for locals rather than tourists which makes it a great place to experience basque life. There are easy road and rail links to Bilbao and San Sebastian. The scenery is great - both coast and inland - and so are the beaches.

We stayed at the apartment with a 3 and a 5 year old boy and enjoyed it. te apartment is very well equiped and nice. Joxean is a very good gost who knows the region very well. Deba is a very nice town, you have a beach and nice hille to hike. You can visit Donostia and Bilboa by train. We stayed there during San Roke which was very pleasant.

Our family of four (two adults and two young children) had a wonderful stay in Deba. The apartment is spacious, clean, and has everything you could need. Joxean was a fantastic communicator and left us tons of information about sights and things to do. He also went out of his way to provide toys and cribs for our girls, which made it much easier to pack and kept them very entertained. The location is really great if you want to drive around to the different sights of Basque country and not deal with the hassle of parking in the bigger cities. It was quiet and beautiful at night, but the local grocery store was just a short walk down the road.

the apartment was great - very comfortable with all that we needed and more. All to a very high standard - very good shower and cooking facilities. the terrace gave a pleasant area to sit while the kids were watching TV! Parkign was a bit difficult at times and we could have managed without a car. Joxean the owner was extremely helpful and pleasant and I am certain would have helped out with anything we needed. He gave plenty of local information which was really useful.

Nous avons passé une semaine à DEBA. L'appartement, spacieux, est situé à 5 minutes à pied des commerces et de la plage. L'appartement est parfaitement bien équipé, la literie est très confortable et point non négligeable avec des ados, la connexion wifi fonctionne parfaitement bien! En résumé, c'est un excellent point de chute pour visiter le pays basque à environ 45 minutes de Bilbao et de San Sebastian.

We spent 5 nights in Joxean's lovely apartment with our 2 year old and 4 month old. It was the perfect apartment with kids, and Joxean provided a crib and a high chair. Joxean was always available for questions about the apartment or for recommendations for the area. Deba is a wonderful place to stay if you want an authentic Basque experience, plus you are minutes from the beach and there's a great playground too! Easy access to San Sebastian, Bilbao, and anywhere else you want to visit. We had a wonderful stay and I highly recommend this apartment to anyone, with or without kids.
