Beautiful, peaceful waterfront location – and charming, comfortable home!!

Older but well kept. Plenty of room for everyone. Setting is great - kayak, paddleboard, play lawn games right in your back yard.

Everyone loved your place, especially the neighborhood. It was the best equipped place we have ever been to and we have been doing VRBO rentals for several years.

Great place for vacation! Host replies quickly to issue. Always enjoyed being there.

This property has many areas for sitting and reading or for conversations. We spent much time in the living area, dining area, and backyard. We loved the living area for ceiling to floor windows that brought the beautiful outdoors in. Oh, and a screened back porch! There are just so many areas to enjoy!! We had 7 adults in this home and everyone had plenty of space to either be together or find a cozy place to read or nap. One of our guests enjoyed showering in the outdoor shower. We grilled out one night. Everything is clean and ready for use. So many wonderful things about this property. It is in a beautiful, peaceful neighborhood but close to the beach and shopping or other attractions. So you can stay and relax or go and play.

Place was great, home away from home. Enjoyed relaxing in back patio, fishing, crabbing, and at night had bon fire with kids roasting marshmallows. Close to beaches and store.

We really enjoyed our week here! We loved how it was right on the water and we could literally walk out back and go fishing, crabbing, and hop on our jet skis and take off down the bay that had the most beautiful views! The house was very clean and inviting and we had plenty of room for everyone. We will definitely be back again!

This place is a hidden gem! We plan to come back every year and stay here!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were nicely appointed, the water view was enjoyable, we had a fire in the fire pit a made smores for the kids, played spades at the dining room table, the historical decor was intriguing and the location couldn't have been better, 12 minutes to the wedding celebration on the beach. If a place for a similar future event in VB was needed, this would be it!!

It's hard to put into words how much we loved this neighborhood, property and house. We left relaxed, refreshed and renewed. You could not ask for a better neighborhood. It's 5 minutes away from the main Virginia Beach area but feels a world away... peaceful streets covered with old trees, bright flowers, and gorgeous homes lining a golf course on one side and serene coves on the other. The property is massive and sits right on the bay with a private dock and sprawling front and back yards. So many days, I just put a chair on the dock to read or watch the sunset reflecting on the water while fish jumped in the distance or the occasional small boat drifted past. And then there's the house... it's not a modern mansion like many others in the neighborhood. It's an original cottage built in the 1950s but it's spacious with large rooms, lots of windows (including floor to ceiling windows in the living room that look out to water views on both sides), a screened in porch, and every amenity you could possibly want. Don't bring anything... from pots to spices to beach supplies you think of it and they have it. They even left a basket filled with snacks for us to enjoy during our stay. I also love how the master bedroom is separated from the other bedrooms.  And, even though we were in the middle of nature, the cable and internet worked perfectly. The house is clearly lived in by people that love to live - you can see and feel it in every mug, utensil, book and board game. It's like being at your grandparents' house. The owners would even text from time to time telling us about things to do in the area. Like everything, there were a couple downsides. As mentioned, we happened to be there in the wake of Tropical Storm Isaias, and the power went out for two days - and there was no generator. A neighbor volunteered to run a power cord from his generator to keep our refrigerator running the whole time. That was a God-send - like something out of Mayberry. And, there were bugs. It's an old house by the water and massive trees -  we saw several giant tree roaches, ants and spiders. The owners have noted that they have ongoing pest treatments and you can see signs that they are trying. Anyway, this house was a blessing for my family to connect, cook, spend long days at the beach, have long walks and bike rides, play games, enjoy nature and enjoy each other during such a tumultuous time. 

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely home. The location was perfect for spending time with family. We brought our kayaks and jet ski and enjoyed time on the bay. We drove the short distance to the beach and boardwalk most afternoons. The owners have provided bicycles, beach chairs, beach toys and umbrellas along with games, books and puzzles. We especially enjoyed spending time on the sun porch playing games in the evenings. We would definitely stay there again given the ppportunity.

The house was well-supplied, and we enjoyed the screen porch. However, WIFI and TV didn't work-if you're going to advertise, it should work. I didn't notice any smoke alarms in the house. Check-in/out times and code to get in were different than what I received. Fortunately, there was someone there to help with that. There was a problem with ants, and the first night, a cockroach in our bed. Cockroaches were seen in other areas of the house. We were uncomfortable sleeping and eating all week. The ceiling was leaking, but I understand that happened shortly before we got there. The house definitely needs upkeep and cleaning. We had to do extensive cleaning to get our deposit back, which we did receive in full. We have never had to do this at any other rentals we've stayed at. We paid for linens, which were not in good condition. The fitted sheet was thin with pilling, and no elastic around the bottom. With the 5 star ratings we feel it was deceiving. Although we have never written a poor review prior to this, we just want others to know what to expect.

Very cute and homey cottage. It truly was a home away from home with everything we needed. Located in a beautiful neighborhood with great views. We enjoyed sunset walks and the fireworks at the golf course just down the road. It was nice and close to the beach also. Very relaxing vacation!

Absolutely beautiful place! So close to everything at VA Beach, but in a quiet, lovely neighborhood. Everything you need is there - from beach chairs & towels to dishes to a streamer pot to steam the crabs we caught in the crab traps off the dock. We had lots of rain - and adults & kids were still entertained with various card games, board games, books - everything is there! Sunny days had lots of things to do too - bikes w/ helmets, fishing stuff, croquet, corn hole, fire pit, grill, etc. And the little touches - cookies w/ welcome note, mints, everything labeled so well so things are easy to find - literally felt like home away from home! Step back into the days of a begone era in this former generals home on the Chesapeake Bay. A well stock larder that would rival any perfect homemaker. We had our son, daughter in law and two children join us for a weeks stay. Far enough away from downtown beach to be quiet and secluded. Close enough the kids were able to ride bikes to the beach. Enough board games to keep the kids entertained in the evening and Virginia Beach was kind enough to regale us with one of her thunder storms and heavy downpour! We plan to have family get togethers more often in VB and our first choice will be this stately home.

We had a wonderful time! Truly enjoyed the house and surrounding areas. The owners leave personal touches for their guests which makes it more special. Had an enjoyable evening making s'mores around the backyard fire pit. Plenty of room for all ten of us. I would not hesitate to rent this property again. Kudos to the owners!

This was my first time I stayed in this home, look over the picture on HomeAway was give me a little bit idea but when I got there the house is larger and very beautifuf. The house have everything you need and label out very easy to find, the back yard was huge we spent most the time with our kids there. Very quiet place to relax and enjoy coffee every morning at the dock to watch the sun come up. If it rain we enjoy the coffee in the greenhouse, they also provide Crab box we catch few big one and the kid got to see the live crab that was awesome adventure for them. Would give this place 5 star and we will be back in the future, thanks for sharing the home with us and let us stay.

We came with our 3 children (college and high school age) and my mother. It was the perfect location for being close to everything Virginia Beach has to offer, and for visiting with our relatives living nearby. Everything there was cozy and comfortable. My whole family thoroughly enjoyed it!

Wonderful home for large families! Great house for grandparents who have a hard time getting around-one level essentially. Also great fishing off the dock. Only complaint-NO WIFI at the house. Also read the contract carefully about the cleaning deposit. We thought cleaning was included with the rental price and the cleaning deposit was non refundable if a huge mess was left. However the cleaning deposit is to cover a cleaning service if you do not wish to clean the house when your vacation is over.

The location of this cottage is absolutely amazing. We had a wonderful view of the inlets from both the front and the back of the cottage. We enjoyed the use of the crab pots, bikes and beach supplies. The house itself was charming, spacious and clean. The location is about a 5 minute drive to VB and the boardwalk. We absolutely loved it and would strongly recommend this property. We will definitely be back!!

The house was absolutely lovely! It was clean, well-maintained and nicely appointed! We enjoyed our daily walks through the lovely neighborhood and our daily crabbing activities off the dock. Our elderly parents loved having their own wing. The layout of the house was perfect for them and us - it is the perfect home for lots of fellowship. It was wonderful, also, for Trish and Bruce to check-in by email to make sure our stay was going well. And to the previous guests who started the Giraffe Puzzle, we'd like to let you know that we finish it!

We have several relatives who've lived within 2 miles of this rental for the past 30+ years. We've visited Virginia Beach many times over those years and know the area quite well. We've rented several over places at the North End or stayed with relatives in the Hilltop area of VB. We rented this house to enjoy the deep water access with 2 boats and a jet ski we had access to. The boating was great and the house is nicely located with respect to the local bays, boat access beaches and restaurants. And, it is a very short easy car ride to either the touristy or local North End part of the Oceanfront beaches. You are very close to store shopping and favorite local restaurants too. The house is located in the very nice Birdneck Point neighborhood; nicely wooded and surrounded by water views. Upgraded appliances, and quality furniture and appointments reminiscent of a true Virginia Beach. The house is also supplied with an abundance of supplies from bikes to beach chairs, to ziplock bags...truly a nice touch compared to some other rentals. This was a great house and made it easy to feel like a local. We could easily live there!

We stayed at the Johnson's lovely home last Summer and had a great vacation. The house has a nice layout, with plenty of room for everyone and perfect for those with kids. The property is on the bay and offers great views on both sides. It's private, yet centrally located to everything the area has to offer. We even used the crab pots available and caught enough blue claws for a feast. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

We thoroughly enjoyed our weeklong stay at this amazing historic home. It is very well maintained and spacious enough to feel very comfortable in. We had loads of fun crabbing with our children each day and riding our bikes in this lovely golf course community. It is a quick drive to the beach and several other family friendly actives such as the Virginia Aquarium and Motor World Amusement Park. The options of things to do are endless but we hardly ever wanted to leave the house because it is such a wonderful home. We could not have been happier to stay there!
