We enjoyed our stay. The location was great for walking to restaurants and to the beach. It was very comfortable for my husband, myself and our two girls who loved all the mermaid stuff. Pool was fun!

I traveled with my husband and 86 year old mom. We have been coming to Sanibel/Captiva for 30+ years and have normally stayed on Sanibel. Due to Hurricane Ian, we stayed here and LOVED it. We wanted to come and support the businesses that were open - shopping and dining. The home is charming, cozy and spotlessly clean. While we did not cook, the home is equipped with everything needed to make a great meal. The decor is lovely. The pool/outdoor area was great. You could enjoy sitting in the sun if you wanted to get that suntan, or enjoy the screened in pool area which kept the sun to a minimum. The pool was a great temperature. This home was also great for my mom because she has some mobility issues and with only one small step up, it was easy for her to maneuver. Larry, the owner, was also a pleasure to deal with. Quick to respond to any questions you may have. We were fortunate enough to meet him on our last day. We will be back!

We love this place so much we booked another week here next year despite experiencing Idalia first hand.

This was the perfect vacation house for our family. It was super clean and had everything we needed and more.

This is a very updated home with new appliances, furniture and just about everything you could possibly need! Our favorite thing was the pool right outside the living room door. We made use of the wagon to get to the beach. I did read in another post about the beach being a 2 minute walk, using the two paths you could try neither was that quick. We stayed for 2 weeks and loved it!!! Would definitely recommend!

If this property sounds and looks like what you are looking for, stop the search. Perfectly represented in pics and descrirption , the bonus was enjoying Captiva w/o it being overcrowded. Owner is responsive, spotlessly clean, great location to town and beach.

We loved the Mermaid House! Check in was super easy, the pool was so much fun, and we had everything we needed. Quick walk to the beach, too. Larry was a great host! We would definitely stay here again with our family!

Beautiful and clean cottage with everything we needed from luxury beach towels to a beach wagon with all the chairs and toys we desired. We spent so much time in the pool and patio areas. We loved the screened in porch. It’s quiet with lots of frogs and lizards to try to catch. Loved the CD, DVD and book collections. Larry was the best and very attentive. We will be back!

My family had a wonderful stay in this home on Captiva Island. The home was the perfect size for our family of five, we really loved the layout of the space and the enclosed pool was perfect. Kitchen had everything we needed for making meals, and the surrounding area offered plenty of restaurant options. The property is surrounded by beautiful gardens and our nature loving family loved watching the iguanas and birds from the pool. Great vacation, thank you!

The house was perfect for us (2 couples) looking for a quiet beach getaway. The house was clean, the pool was beautiful and quick access to the beach made it just what we were looking for.

The home was just what we wanted. Our own screened in private pool with easy access to our all we needed in the home. No long walks back to our room if we stayed at the condo as we did last time. Great sound system and Larry had lots of movies on DVD if we wanted to watch anything. All doors had a screened in porch to help keep out bugs. Had just a small glitch with the AC, but Larry was right on it. We have already booked again to stay again next year. The best restaurant on the island was just a two minute walk away, The Green Flash.

Mermaid House was in a great location, an easy walk to the beach, shops and restaurants. The home was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. Our host provided detailed instructions regarding the house as well as great recommendations to make the most of our vacation.

Perfect location. Amazing 2 bedroom nestled in a neighborhood of large homes. Private. Extremely well cared for. A hands on owner who obviously takes pains to assure everything works, the kitchen and other equipment is high quality, all surfaces are sparkling clean, the beds are comfortable, and the design is inviting inside and out. Landscaping wonderful. Larry was very responsive, quickly answering all questions. Close to beach, great beach equipment. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed our time at the Mermaid House, amenities were great, lots of outside area to enjoy. Only negative was the weather was unseasonably cool and the pool was too cold to swim.

The home exceeded all expectations and was extremely private & comfortable. We have stayed in many rental homes throughout Florida. This week at the Mermaid House in Captiva Island was one of our top favorites.

We loved the charm of Captiva and the Mermaid House was the main highlight of our vacation. The layout was perfect for 2 couples. We truly appreciated the location, privacy, beautiful grounds, pool, screened in areas.....the list goes on and on! Larry makes the entire process of reserving & staying here so easy and stress-free, just the way a vacation should be. We would not hesitate to stay here again or recommend this property. I have not one negative word or helpful suggestion to add to previous reviews of this property. Location? Perfect. Comfortable, easy walk to the beach even for this 71 year old. Easy walk to Green Flash...for wonderful dinners (twice). Otherwise I felt transportation was required. Not a problem. Condition of property? Spotless, comfortable, homey, well maintained and perfect for our small family getaway. When I noticed the umbrella in the corner by the door I was blown away! Thankfully we had no rain, but how thoughtful. This cottage lacks nothing you will need! It’s easy to settle in and forget your cares. Very private. The pool is enjoyable when you need a break from the beach. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get. We were sad to leave but have many wonderful experiences to remember. Thank you Larry for making your home available and so remarkably comfortable!!

Larry was an awesome host and the Mermaid house is a private paradise! Larry provided expert guidance to all our questions and the home is even better than we expected. This home is well maintained, very clean and the location to the beach and restaurants are extremely close. The home is well equipped with all of the essentials. We can’t stop talking about this vacation and planning a return visit.

The pictures of this home are accurate, so beautiful! The check -in was so easy and the home contained everything we could want. The pool was clean and a comfortable temperature and I loved being able to switch the speakers to the outside with the push of a button. We enjoyed relaxing on the rafts provided while listening to our favorite music. The beach was an easy walk mostly in the shade. It didn’t even take 5 minutes. Short enough that we decided spur of the moment to watch the sunset on the beach for a few minutes. Just a lovely home. Comfortable, clean and lots of room inside and out to enjoy our vacation!

This lovely cottage is exactly as depicted online. It is very homey. The private pool is an indulgence. The walk to the beach was short, shady and easy. Captiva is a safe and clean place for a beach vacation. We happen to be there during a level one hurricane and communication with the owner was excellent. He also came to the house to fix a problem we were having with one of the tvs. We hope to go back again.

A week at the Captiva Mermaid was just what my family needed. The property is beautifully landscaped and located in a great location; quiet and just a short walk to the main area. Larry was quick to respond to any concerns or questions and made the rental process a breeze. Loved being able to take the short walk to the beach every evening to watch the sunset. We enjoyed great food at the Bubble Room, Crow's Nest, Old Captiva House, Green Flash and Doc Ford's. My teenagers enjoyed riding the waverunners and seeing the dolphins swimming along side. Definitely recommended Captiva Watersports located behind Tween Waters Inn. Their staff were very polite and helpful, unlike YOLO. If you're looking to rent a golf cart, give Sunny Island Adventure a call as they were also great to work with. My husband and I just enjoyed slowing down for that week, laughing with our teenagers and just sometimes doing nothing. Thanks Larry for providing the perfect place for just that.

The Mermaid Pool House was exactly as advertised. The house was comfortable, bathrooms were updated and the pool was terrific with very nice furniture around it. The house was very private with lots of natural vegetation offering privacy. As we said to the owner you could hear repairs being done next door and we had to ask them to be quieter but this was not a reflection on our property. The location was within an easy walking distance to the village and across the street from the Green Flash. Kitchen utensils were adequate. We hope to stay there again.

My best friend and I had visited Mermaid House several times but the last was 2006 until this visit. The home is marvelous and the beach beautiful. Our host Larry was always available and helpful.

We had an absolutely wonderful time returning to the mermaid home that we have been to many times in years past. Already looking forward to our next visit!

The landscaping around the property is very well done and offers maximum privacy around the pool and back yard. The pool area is amazing. We spent so many of our afternoons and evenings relaxing by the pool and on the back deck because it’s so peaceful and private. The pool temperature was perfect. The pool is heated, but it also gets a good amount of sunlight during the day even though the trees and plants make it feel almost like a rain forest. I know they are a bit of a nuisance in Florida, but I enjoyed sitting under the pool lanai and looking for iguanas in the trees. The owner and property manager, Larry, was wonderful to deal with during our stay. The house was very clean, and Larry provides many great recommendations of restaurants and things to do around Captiva. We only left Captiva once for a few hours, and that was to go over to Sanibel for dinner at The Mad Hatter (great restaurant recommendation from Larry). The beach cart is a great bonus and got a lot of use. There are plenty of beach chairs and beach toys for kids. We brought our own beach tent, but I noticed there were umbrellas as well.It’s a short walk to Captiva Village, but we enjoyed renting a golf cart for the week. It’s very convenient if you go to Doc Ford’s or some of the other shops around the South Seas Resort entrance. It’s also easier to find golf cart parking in the village as opposed to driving in with a car.One day we walked over to Jensen’s Marina and saw several manatees hanging out by the docks. Very cool!Captiva House has a very nice breakfast if you’re looking for something on the fancier side. We also enjoyed Key Lime Bistro, R.C Otters and Doc Ford’s. If you’re looking for a family friendly island/beach without a lot of crowds and beautiful weather, it’s hard to beat Captiva.We’ve already confirmed our reservation at The Mermaid House for 2021.

My husband, myself and our college aged daughter had another wonderful stay at the Mermaid House. It is such a gem: so consistently clean, just the right amount of items a visitor needs without extra stuff, comfortable beds and plenty of towels, the ability to crawl out of bed and with full privacy jump into the warm pool, and just a short stroll to the beach.
