Marie is the sweetest host! She gave an overview of everything in the house and even looked up local attractions for us. We were looking for a place to unplug and that is exactly what we got. The interior is dated but well kept and like walking back in time. My one complaint would be that only 1 bed was comfortable. Overall a lovely stay!

Marie was a perfect host! She met with me promptly at the property and gave me a quick tour of the amenities available and house rules. No issues with our stay and each guest having their own large bedroom worked out perfectly. Being off the grid from cellular access was a concern at first, but was a blessing in disguise as it kept everyone off their phones and interacting with one another like we used to and days back. One in our group had enough signal for an occasional phone call on Verizon.

I would say Marie’s house is a rustic cabin. It was very clean and had plenty of room. There is a nice round table in the kitchen and we played games. There is plenty of comfortable seating in the living room. The outside was very beautiful at the house. We had a great time hiking at Ricketts Glen. There is a nice little brewery called Five Mountain in Shickshinny PA. The food there was great and the people were nice. It was a really nice trip. Thank you Marie!

This property is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle to enjoy some peace and quiet. Marie was one of the most responsive hosts I've experienced and was available for any questions we had. Take a walk in the woods, fish from the creek or enjoy the cozy warmth of the fire pit. I would definitely stay here again.

Very clean vintage place. No dust, no cobwebs, no funky smells, has central air, and Dish TV. Set far back from the road - surrounded by woods/creek on all sides. Great place to take dogs. Less than five minute drive to Ricketts Glen. Friendly and responsive host.

Travel down a winding country road. Turn unto a single lane, then make a left unto Herbie's Hideaway. A very unique rental beside a babbling brook. The property is fantastic, Picnic Pavilion, swing set, fire pit and the fore mentioned brook. Makes for a very relaxing experience. Spotty cell phone and no wifi makes this rental perfect for getting away from it all and doing what you paid for (relaxing). Close to Tunkhannock, Wilkes barre, Leighton. Jim Thorpe. Great "Home Base". Can't wait to get back there.

The house was close to the park and the park was great. Really worth it. The house itself was clean, large and the owner very responsive via text. It appears the depression the house is located in prevents Verizon’s network from functioning but it’s fine once you are on the road. The decor is appropriate for a timeless forest hideaway and the babbling creek outside is lovely. Make sure to bring your sheets, towels and preferred pillows and give yourself a bit of time to clean up before you leave. There is a nice hard cidery in Benton close by if you’re into craft brews. They have truly dry and sour ciders as well as the sweeter types. Overall quite pleasant.

We enjoyed a wonderful week of nature on this beautiful property. If you want to disconnect from everything and enjoy what nature has to offer, this is the perfect place for you to do it. Plenty to do at nearby state parks. Great creek on the property for cooling off and having fun, nice big fire ring. We got rained out a few nights but that didn't dampen our trip at all. We just bonded over some indoor family games. Marie and Rich were great hosts.

Herbies Hideaway is just that! A 70's style eclectic home hidden within a natural setting next to a babbling creek. The friendly owners, Marie & Rich, were there to greet us and explain the details of the property. There is a great fireside area for evening gatherings; one of our favorite times of the weekend. (additional cost for wood) The wonderful sounds and sites of nature surrounded us. The creek, patter of rain, Birds, chipmunks, deer, owls, crayfish, salamanders, fireflies, and butterflies. Ricketts Glenn State Park had several choices for hikes. It is a beautiful Glen!!! All things that my husband & I enjoy experiencing with our family. There were 8 adults and 2 children under 3 1/2(FYI inquire about the info.." Rates are based on number of guests" before you coordinate with extended family). A difficult squeeze around the kitchen table(6 chairs fit around it) but room at the outside picnic table with using the little tykes table too. Bedrooms were a good size, but ALL of us agree with the reviewer from Oct 2020 that the mattresses are very uncomfortable. We also agree that the 2 garbage bag minimum with a $5.00 charge for additional bags used would have been good to know before our arrival. also, you need to take glass bottles home with you. The dishwasher was out of order. And you need to be careful using appliances at the same time. Marie did tell us that the water is by well yet drinkable but if we felt more comfortable to bring bottled water. No need. The water was pure & just fine. Plenty of hot water for showers. We were aware that there is no WIFI and cell service would be spotty. CORRECT! NO service until you drive to find some. Makes it difficult to communicate with family coming at different hours & times. We gave Herbies an average rating because of some of the reasons stated above. BUT The most important thing to know is that our family adjusted and had a great time.

Our family loves Herbies; it is the perfect getaway! The online description is accurate and the photos appropriately represent what you get when you arrive. For families with small kiddos- a creek runs through the property and is easily accessible. It is not super deep but it can move quickly. Our kids had a blast exploring and finding frogs, fish, and newts! Herbies is the perfect place to unwind and reconnect as a family. Side Note: ATT has very limited service on the property but Marie and Rich are nearby in case of emergencies.

Herbie's Hideaway is a perfect getaway for those seeking to just breathe and relax. It's located in the woods on the mountain, but the owners are just next door. However, you're still secluded so you'll have plenty of privacy. The kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, dishes, cups, and even a tea kettle, as well as a coffee machine and microwave. The living room has dish TV if you're interested in winding down and watching a movie as well. There are 4 bedrooms. 3 have full beds, and 1 is a queen bed. I will say if you have a bad back, bring your own mattress topper. The beds are spring beds and on the firm side, so we went out and bought a cheap mattress cover our 2nd day there. The creek is located right behind the home, and you can hear and see the water during the day, and listen to it at night. Its pretty dark around the house at night, so bring a flashlight, and get the firepit started before the sun goes down. There's also a charcoal grill for you to use as well! For toiletries, there was bathroom spray, soap, and 1 roll of TP, but I'm sure they would supply you with more if you need. We will definitely return to herbies :)
