We recently stayed at this rental cottage, and overall, it was a good, memorable experience. Pros: - The most outstanding feature of this cottage is the spectacular ocean view. Simply lovely! - The host was quick to address a minor issue we encountered, specifically a slow-draining sink. Cons: - In the main bedroom, the bed takes up most of the space, making it challenging to move around. - The shower is quite tight, which might be uncomfortable for some guests. Good-to-knows: - The address listed in VRBO is incorrect as of Sept 2023. I wish the host had told us this before we arrived in the dark. You should confirm in advance. - For those seeking absolute tranquility and privacy, it's worth noting that the cottage is close to a dirt public access lane, public beach, and small cemetery. So this means you are likely to hear and see people nearby who are not the hosts. - There is no hot tub/spa whirlpool. As of Sept 2023, I believe these are listed in the amenities.

The location was nice. The house was as described. We were optimistic, but the bunk beds were not quite right for our ageing bodies... Beautiful property, nice beach. Too bad we were rushed out by a hurricane!!!

I have stayed here many times. It’s my happy place in Maine. Right on the water with plenty of privacy. Beautiful, pristine and secluded. The hosts Rusty and Lynn live nearby and couldn’t be better. Make you feel like family. ❤️❤️❤️

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Back Beach. The two of us have stayed there many times. The house itself was great. The view of the water was gorgeous. It was great to relax on a lawn chair or on the beach. Also, the location was perfect- down a country road, just a short ride to Southwest Harbor and to Acadia national Park.

listed essential amenity was incorrect and owner blamed vrbo and vrbo said it was technical issue but no refund for me, also described as private beach but public access is next to property and beach used by whole neighborhood and their dogs

We are a couple from Germany and had a wonderful week in the Backbeach cottage. It offered everything we needed and Rusty was a great host. The area is just beautiful and there a lot of things to do. We would love to come back.

Beautiful and quiet location yet close (30 min. to Acadia)! Hosts were 5 star! House and grounds well maintained. Best part was being just steps from the water. Watching the sun come up right from the deck or screened in porch, catching the tide rolling in/out and seeing various wildlife. Walking along the water any time with plenty to explore both on site and in the quaint surrounding towns. We've never wanted to return to a VRBO until this gem! THANK YOU for sharing your lovely cottage!

The Back Beach is one of our favorite vacation spots. It is right on the water. The view is beautiful. It is great to use its beach. It is near a number of excellent hikes. We also enjoy just sitting in the chairs on the expansive lawn, and relaxing as we take in the beauty of the area.

The view from a small cottage doesn't get better than this.

Beautiful little cottage. Perfect for a couple or a small family. Lovely place to stay to explore Acadia from and come back to a beach in your front yard for sunset. We enjoyed getting to explore the quiet side of the island and that Thurston's Lobster Pound and Beal's Lobster Pier are right by to eat at. The loft is straight up a ladder so really only for older kids. The rooms are smaller but perfectly cozy and adequate. Rusty is there to answer any questions and has great communication. We also appreciated the washer and dryer in the basement to do laundry.

This cottage was everything we'd hoped. The setting was magnificent. The ocean was our backyard. The hosts were kind and generous. Great, well-supplied kitchen plus a gas grill. It was incredibly quiet save the sound of the water lapping the shore. Everything was perfect!

Great place with a fantastic view!

The property is in a beautiful setting. Perfect for relaxing away from busy tourist areas but not too far away from Acadia park. The only negative is the small master bedroom and bathroom. Might not be the best choice if you are a bigger person. Overall we had a great trip and would recommend staying at Backbeach.

We loved our stay. It was perfect. Rusty and Lynne are great hostess. Anything and everything you need is in the cottage. Rusty and Lynn are gracious hosts with a beautiful piece of property. We loved being here and enjoyed a peaceful week. Bedrooms are small but the location more than makes up for it. Wake up to a beautiful view of Bass Harbor. Go to sleep with a wondrous view of the Milky Way!

Rusty and Lynne's charming cottage is set on a quintessential Maine beach--sandy in parts, rocky in others, and the clearest ocean water you'll see in New England. The beach is perfect for scrambling over rocks and investigating tidal pools at low tide, and I would highly recommend a swim at high tide. I braved the cold temps in May, and it was absolutely invigorating! If you're looking to be close to Acadia National Park but away from the crowds, Bass Harbor is the place to be. It's exceptionally quiet but we enjoyed easy trips to Acadia, including Schoodic Point, which is a must-see. The cottage itself was perfect for our needs. A large kitchen that leads into a living room space with a comfortable couch and excellent views of the water. The bedrooms are very small, as is the bathroom, but the beds are comfortable and we were treated to a lilac bush in bloom just on the other side of the bedroom window. Highlights of the cottage were the cleanliness and, of course, the view, which you can take in from the screened porch or the deck, which has two large, comfortable chairs. It's been a month since we had the chance to stay at the Back Beach cottage, and I still think about it every day. I don't often stay in the same rental place again (always fun to try new areas), but this cottage and the location were so fantastic that I will absolutely be back.

It was great! Yes the 2 bedrooms and the bath are small but very clean and comfortable. The cottage had everything needed to cook (made use of the lobster pot!), tv (which we did not even turn on), books, games, great binococulars , all that is needed for a rainy or other bad weather day! Interested in tide pooling? Do it right outside your door! The property is well maintained.

We loved our weeklong stay. The sloping lawn and few short steps to the cobble shore provide ready access and in-house views to a wonderful cobble and bedrock cove. We watched the tides come in and out accompanied by varied diving ducks. Adjacent public drive connects to cobble berm walkway between shore and salt marsh with yet more wildlife to view. Across the road we watched a hunting fox, multiple ospreys, more varied birds. House is very comfortably set up with two couches, rockers, well equipped kitchen, great deck, screen and open porches, full laundry in basement. Meticulously clean house and comfortably furnished. Good WiFi, reading materials. No house is ADA perfect and we found the tight bath, bedroom and hall quarters a little challenging to negotiate but manageable after moving a few items temporarily. The entry and porch railings are heavily weathered and splintery if you need to use them. The living and kitchen spaces are spacious and comfortable. House and grounds are meticulous and well- maintained. Unlike some areas of the island the tapwater is fine. The grounds are spacious and this is a wonderful place to go for walks given the varied seashore and saltmarsh adjacent. Several nights we sat out by the seawall stargazing. One could launch a kayak from the adjacent public way. We enjoyed chatting with the owners who live adjacent. Do consult ahead of arriving as the VRBO address for the house is incorrect, making for an anxious search for the house on arrival. We'll be back!

We had a good week in Rusty’s house. Good location. Spacious family room and kitchen. Bedrooms are small.

We come to MDI every year and this was the first time staying with the Bradford’s at Back Beach. We loved the property! The Bradford’s were great to work with and very pleasant to chat with one evening around the fire with a glass of wine. Wonderful and well appointed kitchen (we cooked at the cottage most nights for dinner and breakfast each day), amazing location and the screened in porch is bashfully why I originally booked this cottage. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the back deck and had candle light dinners in the evenings while looking at the views and enjoying the sounds of the working harbor. We found it to be the perfect amount of space for a couple. The beach is just steps away from the cottage, complete with a picnic bench for a lovely lunch. The sunsets from just a short walk down the street (overlooking the marsh) were especially memorable. Very nice laundry machines at the cottage, with a full size washer and dryer. The only thing that was a slight challenge was the low water pressure in the shower.

This is the second time I've stayed here. I absolutely love it. Bar Harbor, Acadia and other points of interest are but a short drive away. The property owners live nearby and could not be any nicer or more accommodating. I will positively stay here again.

Once again, we had a great week at Back Beach Cottage. This is my 9 year old son’s favorite place in the world. There is so much for him to explore. The view is amazing. It is perfect for morning coffee time and evening wine time. This part of the island offfers so much beautiful nature and hiking, great small towns with friendly people and fantastic quaint restaurants, and wonderfully scenic drives. We fully recommend this spot as a romantic getaway or a fun time for a small family. The hosts are close by and very accommodating. Thanks R & L for everything.

This property is right on the ocean with a beautiful view. Rusty and Lynn were very nice and offered suggestions on restaurants and things to do. Cute little cottage with everything you need. Definitely on the quiet side of the island but yet close enough to Bar Harbor, Acadia, etc.
