Although the house and property are beautiful this negative review is due to difficulties with the host In the 9 months after booking, we contacted the host (rarely) with vital questions about our stay. The host did not respond via the VRBO portal. By googling we found a phone # - contact still very slow. Final contact was one week prior to arrival, seeking check-in details. 6 days later we were shocked to receive a secondary contract to sign before she would provide check in info. Despite our issues with the contract, her lawyer was unavailable to discuss until after we were on our way to Maine. Manipulated and coerced, we signing the contract to prevent cancellation of our trip. We respectfully left the house exactly as we found it. Thusly we were flabbergasted to hear from VRBO of a $500 charge by the host who accused us of staining the living room rug and rearranging furniture to cover the damage. Totally untrue!!!! We tried to contact the host for discussion, to no avail. We contacted VRBO to contest the charges. They promised an investigation including our side of the story - never happened! The charge was processed, with no input from us. Our last recourse was contesting the charge with our credit card company. We provided a detailed report and filled in a lengthy questionnaire. They thoroughly reviewed our side of the story and vindicated us by refunding all of our money. We won yes, but this experience has left an ugly stain on our vacation memories.

Hurricane Fiona put a bit of a damper, literally, on our vacation plans at the end of the week but that gave us more time to do a puzzle, cook, visit, eat and watch movies. Before that however, we were able to get out on the kayak we brought with us and the paddle board we rented. We saw harbor seals and porpoises which was definitely a highlight! Really a wonderful week!,

Oceans Edge is a gem of a place! Far enough from Bar Harbor to enjoy seclusion, close enough to visit as often as you like. The home is well appointed in every regard and the gardens and grounds are superb.And who wouldn't want to watch from the dock eagles hunting while the sun sets. This is a daytrippers dream.

We had a great vacation - quiet location with amazing views over the deck. Beautiful landscaping around property.

Beautiful, well-maintained home with a spectacular view of the water. Watch the resident eagles swoop and soar and lobstermen (and women) tend their traps set off the property’s rocky beach. We enjoyed hunting sea glass and shells, exploring the tide pools and fishing off the floating dock for mackerel and pollock. In the evening we listened to the wind blowing through the evergreens while seated on the home’s expansive back deck or inside in the sun room. As one family member said, “this may be the most peaceful place on earth.”

It was missing a few items that would have been helpful. For example, a measuring cup, a grill cleaner, the DVD player mentioned, deck chairs, lamps, etc.

This beautiful house and property were the highlight of our trip to Acadia National Park. The view from inside the home, on the deck, atop the beautifully landscaped trail to the beach, and from the floating dock are simply breathtaking. The house was very clean and well stocked. There is the most lovely sitting room with big windows that overlook the harbor, it’s the perfect spot to cuddle up with a good book and a cup of coffee! Book it, it’s sure to be a place you’ll never forget!

My family stayed here the week of July 4th and thoroughly enjoyed our visit! As others have said, the pictures do NOT do the house justice. The home was very clean, well-appointed (other than the oddly missing measuring spoons), beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. Everyone from the adults and teens found a comfortable place to hang out when we weren't outside enjoying the grounds and view. Speaking of the view, it's spectacular! The quiet location on the bay is spectacular and the dock provided much enjoyment by the teens in our group. The house is a bit remote, but the hour drive to Bar Harbor and the main part of Acadia and 30-minute drive to the majority of amenities in Ellsworth wasn't bad given the beautiful area. It was a worthy sacrifice to rent this home. Our teens did take the 45-minute ferry ride to Bar Harbor and enjoyed the sights along the way. For a peaceful, relaxing gorgeous get away I would definitely rent this house again! By the way, Siga's recommendation for the 4th of July fireworks in Bar Harbor was spot on! They were fabulous!

This property and house is even more amazing and beautiful than the photos! It’s like living in a fairy tale. Our family greatly enjoyed our stay here and our kids loved exploring the property. We even bought lobsters right off the dock from a lobster boat that came by one morning!

You can see right down the channel to the light house at the entrance to the Bay, blinking red at night in the distance while you check out the amazing stars. The place is beautifully landscaped and very well maintained. Trees have been managed so the views from the very large deck are unobstructed. The only downside is that there is no shade on the deck so it's hard to sit outside for very long on hot sunny days. Everything in the house is done with style. The quality of everything is great although as other reviewers have commented, the house could use some reading lights in the living room. There are lots of little surprises everywhere, like a small hand-carved wooden ground hog peeking down from the end of one of the beams. We loved it. Highly recommended.

This house is so much more than pictures even show. We ended up canceling some of our plans just so we could hang out at home more. The kids caught frogs and we painted watercolors on the porch, inspired by beautiful scenery. The house is so comfy and beautiful!!! We brought paddle boards with us and paddle boarding around the bay was a daily activity. A porpoise jumped up right by us one afternoon! There’s a hummingbird who visits the flowers outside the master window every a.m around 7...check him out! Get up early to enjoy every minute of this amazing property. We will be back next year!

As other reviews had said before, the pictures do not do justice to the property and the view. Only by being there in person can you appreciate the location. We did not want to leave and wished we had more time. We went to MDI and Bar Harbor twice and did not mind the hour drive. We spent time in the Schoodic portion of Acadia and rented bikes one day and rode around the park. I would have been happy having more days to just relax at the house as it's a destination all itself. Winter Harbor is a small town but had what we needed and we enjoyed Ben and Me for ice cream two nights. We did get groceries in Ellsworth on the way in and the selection is much larger so I would recommend doing that. As far as the layout of the house, the downstairs is a great master suite. The fact that it has no door was not an issue, but if someone is up early, or stays up late, and is walking around on the main floor you will hear the footsteps above if you're a light sleeper. That's not the fault of the home, just a function of having someone above you on hardwood floors. The bedroom on the main floor was a comfortable room with a large bathroom and it was dark and quiet for a teenager that likes to sleep in. The loft bedroom on the top floor could be an issue for anyone that wants to sleep in. It is very bright with skylights and it's open to the downstairs for noise. We had brought fans and that helped to mask the noise so the girls could sleep a little later than us. The beds were all comfortable and there were more than enough linens and towels. There were some things that could use some minor maintenance, but given the pandemic, that could be preventing some of those touch ups. One last thing was that I wished we had brought camping chairs for the dock. The ones at the house needed to be replaced and it would have been an easy thing for us to bring in the car as we commonly have them in the trunk. As others mentioned, the sunrise, sunset and generally anything outdoors on the property or on the dock was well worth the stay here as it made our first trip to Maine special. Finally, the property owner was easy to work with, responsive, and helped us through the added complications of the travel restrictions.

We stayed at this fabulous house in 2012 and always wanted to come back. Eight years later, it did not disappoint. The house is beautiful and comfortable and the location is amazing. Though it is close to everything that you'd want, when you are sitting outside, you feel like the whole coast is yours. We'd love to come back again!
