It’s always wonderful to come back to Grandma’s retreat. It’s a great get away from all the noise, hustle and bustle of the world around us. Grandma’s beach cottage is Simple, nostalgic, quiet , Peaceful and secluded. It’s immersed with the sound of ocean waves and the scenery that surrounds it.

The atmosphere created by the wide beautiful view and impressive sound of the surf was very calming. We loved our daily walks on the beach and the relaxing warmth of the cottage. It was the most peaceful and refreshing time we have enjoyed in a long time.

Probably the best location of any place we’ve ever stayed. Can’t beat the views from the cottage. The home is very comfortable and has everything we needed. Communication with the owner was easy & quick. Make sure to leave it clean and follow the checklist when you check out.

Lovely cottage. To get to ocean is a long walk as house is high up. Narrow one way road.. Slippery in rain. Owners expectation was not told us in advance: Clean , vacuum , wash everything including windows, clean even the 2 bedrooms we did not use, clean refrigerator, stove. clean deck. We have never had that experience in all our years ..perhaps they dont hire a cleaning person .because cottage is a bit hard to get to ? If they explained that in advance we would be more understanding.

Grandma’s Beach Cottage is wonderful. We stayed during the stormy season and loved it. We sat by the fire with amazing views of the ocean playing games and working on puzzles. It was so cozy and relaxing. We can’t wait to go back!

Oh my goodness. This place is as good as all the other reviews say, and then some. We travelled all the way from Ohio bc I was obsessed with this listing, and it did not disappoint. Such a cozy, welcoming home that has everything you need. Our 14 and 11 year old had a great first experience with the Pacific, playing on the beach all day, exploring tide pools. And plenty of wifi to be on their tech at night. We also managed to tear ourselves away for a day and visit some redwood groves (Montgomery Woods is worth the drive!). Some great places to eat close by, and some more that I want to come back and try. Definitely get sandwiches at the store in Elk and have a picnic lunch at the park across the street! Thank you, Jennifer, for opening this wonderful cottage up to share and being such a kind and gracious host. Your communication was always so nice and helpful, and we appreciate all the time you spent making sure our stay was safe and pleasant, even when the weather wouldn’t cooperate! I hope to be back someday, if just to sit on the porch and drink coffee and listen to the roar of the surf. As my son described it, “this place is powerful and peaceful”. ❤️

This special home was exactly what I wanted to celebrate my 70th birthday.

Our stay was nothing short of magical. The moment we arrived all the stresses of daily life was washed out sea with the sound of the waves. Stunning views everywhere you look. We loved watching all the birds fly in and out of the tree by the bench. The morning we left we were even listed by a deer! We can't wait to come back.

My Wife and I came down here to Grandma’s cottage for our anniversary, very peaceful spot. The sounds and ocean views that you get here are truly unbeatable. We really enjoyed our time there. We will definitely be coming back in the future.

Had a wonderful time this is a great place to stay. Very relaxing. We only had one issue which is we have a big 2001 suburban and it was tough to navigate the driveway and the way down to the beach. With that being said, we will be back!

Beautiful location, loved it!

This was our second stay at the beach cottage. Last year with friends for our Mendocino Botanical Garden elopement and this year just us for our 1 year anniversary (even though we only needed one bedroom). The cottage is quaint, not fancy. But the location is unparalleled. That view! Going to sleep to the sound of the waves is so relaxing. The beach is remote and not crowded. Lots of wildlife and great tide pools with starfish. This is the place to get away from it all.

Just about perfect in every way - proximity to the beach( 5 minute walk down steep hill but you can drive if you want), breathtaking views, and very comfortable accommodations.

Just perfect. Everything you need, nothing you don't and views that just keep you captivated and entertained for hours!

This is a sweet little wooden cabin that overlooks the ocean equipped with what you need to cook for yourselves. Bring your food and settle into peace with a great view.

This is our 3rd year in a row and every year it gets better! We love the fact that it feels like our home away from home! Thank you Jennifer for sharing Grandma's Cottage with us....until next year :)

We will definitely be back. Four days of unplugging and enjoying beachfront views. Absolutely perfect. Small surrounding towns with early closing hours and some places totally closed Mondays and Tuesdays so recommend arriving before 7pm to stock up on supplies or just bring in food. We loved cooking our meals at the cottage (fully stocked kitchen). The views and practically private beach really make it hard to even leave and explore nearby areas.

Home is quality built with great history and the view is amazing. Cleanliness of the prior renters was poor. Over all we enjoyed our stay. One down fall was a moldy smell in the bedrooms. I’m sure this was because of the storms, retaining moisture.

The view is amazing! Cabin was clean, cozy and very comfortable… we did puzzles at night, drank hot cocoa, crotchet, and just relaxed. Mendocino/Fort Bragg only 45 minutes north, scenery never disappoints. We love the coast and hope to book another stay here next year!

I’m an ocean and solitude lover. And grandma’s cottage is the answer. So simple and beautiful. At hide tide, the waves are so close to the home that you feel almost like you’re on a boat. We heard the waves even with the windows and doors closed. The ocean beckoned through windows and sounds. We experienced magical sunrises and sunsets. Jennifer is easy to communicate with and friendly and professional. Thank you Jennifer and family for opening up their home and permitting my family to experience the ocean!

Restful, with an award winning view and a short walk to miles of ocean beach. We loved our stay and plan to make it ritual destination.

As before we enjoyed the property, location, and the sound of the ocean. We also enjoyed watching the very large group of seals in the water not far from the house

It was beautiful and peaceful place; with everything you need to cook your own meals and commune with the ocean far below.

My wife and I are from the middle of Pennsylvania. Neither of us have ever seen the northern California coast. I was tasked with the details of an October vacation my wife had scheduled off from work. I looked all over the world actually. Patagonia was actually the first place I researched. Somehow I was drawn to northern California and began pouring over VRBO properties where I thought I may like to visit, learning as much as I could about the areas while I looked. I eventually came across Grandma's Beach cottage and knew we had to stay there, even if somehow, it's pictures were half as much as it looked like. I also read every review and noticed that the owner responded to every one. My wife and I flew into San Francisco and stayed in the redwoods near Guerneville for a couple of nights until we could start our stay at the cottage. We drove to the coast at the mouth of the Russian River at Jenner and drove up the coast to Manchester. We stopped in Gualala and had a bite to eat at the most amazing bar and restaurant with the ocean over our shoulders. And when we finally made it to the cottage just before dusk, we were floored, dazzled, amazed, spun around, whatever you like, it is stunning. We could not even believe our view and of course how perfect the cottage is itself. The panoramic floor to ceiling windows are amazing, inside or out, all you see is ocean. Maybe if your are already from California could you get used to this kind of view. I grew up 6 hours from the closest beach and it's awful. We made sure we had enough provisions and didn't leave the property for a couple of days. The wrap around deck is where we spent most of out time mesmerized by the sea, and the hawks, and the deer, and the people on horses. I could write about our trip forever. Explore the coast north or south, dip into the redwood forests, drive to Anderson Valley for wineries or to Fort Bragg for a train ride. We both fell in love and are currently figuring out how to live in that area permanently. Its that good. Go!

Very refreshing views and relaxing atmosphere

We all had such a fantastic time. The house was in a perfect location, all of the windows had breathtaking views. The beds were extremely comfortable and everything was in good working order. The beach in mid-august was fairly unpopulated, so we always felt like it was our own private beach. The waves are amazing and the water was a really good temperature, not too warm not too cold. The people that we did meet on the beach were so very friendly.

there is no better location than this house. the sounds of the ocean the cool air & lovely beach we found great dinning experiences just a short drive away . we ate well at home & never lacked for kitchen utensils. Jennifer is a super responsive & kind hostess to deal with. i will return!’

We had a lovely time at the beach house. You have a wonderful view of the ocean and have access to a beautiful beach. We created many wonderful memories with our family. It was nice to get away from technology as well. Definitely would go back.

This property is an ideal location that makes you feel as if you are floating in the clouds above a gorgeous beach. Easy access to the beach; Port Arena Lighthouse and a short distance to Fort Bragg. Sleeping to the sound of the ocean and being awakened by the sounds of birds, ocean waves and wildlife. What a wonderful combination of treehouse, beach house and home away from home.
