The View was Great.
The infinity pool was exquisite.
The house itself was just as represented or better.
The hotel beach restaurant just short walk from property
was a really neat amenity to enjoy.
Tho the beach is more of a surf than swim spot, it was
entirely possible to spend time playing in the shallows!

We had an amazing time during our stay at Casa Fuego. The communication and information ahead of and during the stay were very thorough and helpful. Meaghan and Jarrod set up a chat group for us and during our stay both Meaghan and Jarrod, as well as Mike, PJ, Rafa, and the pool guy all helped us out and were available to answer questions and assist us. Thank you to all!
The house, pool, views were all spectacular - better than the pics. The beach was clean with beautiful sand just outside the gate. To the south there were some really cool volcanic rock formations and cove a little way down that had some really good snorkeling – saw tons of beautiful fish, including 2 puffer fish and a colorful eel. The Hotel Playa Negra was just a 2 minute walk on the beach to get meals and drinks in their Tiki restaurant/bar overlooking the beach and the surf. Lots of fun watching the surfers – some really talented ones too.
Had some great meals at local restaurants, including a very special evening at Mycelium – great story behind the owners travels worldwide and path to opening their restaurant in Playa Negra. Look up Kamu – her cookbooks are fantastic. Drove up to Tamarindo for an afternoon and had lunch. Very different vibe there – busy, lots of traffic, very touristy, beach not nearly as nice as Playa Negra. Was glad to get back to the serenity of Casa Fuego.
All in all a great trip – would rent here again and recommend it to others.

The overall property is really a paradise, but there are just a few things which make it more of a 4.5 star. (I will say, I am a hard grader and I figured more people read the 4 versus 5s to get a real idea of the place.) The place really is great, updated kitchen, wonderful pool, felt nearly like a private beach. The reason I knocked it down is because the primary mattress was hard, husband was less bothered by it. And, the living room furniture was uncomfortable. Really didn't get a relaxing sit anywhere except outside on the lounge chairs -- but I can't sleep out there. We only went and looked at the second flat -- that had a kitchen that could use a little updating (but I imagine most couples would just put their kids out there and have most meals in the main eating area.) I was a little unnerved by all their warnings about locking everything up in the vault... but never felt unsafe. Property manager were great and attentive. Along with no balcony rails, their are no handrails down the interior stairs and the steps are higher than uniform height. I nearly stumbled a couple times and had to be very mindful (and I teach yoga) -- might not be the best for drunks or small kids. Finally, they need handles on the exterior of glass doors, so it's easier for people to slide the doors closed from the outside (so I don't have to nag my son to not cool the outside -- I do not think it's a deterrent for thieves) & curtains on the upstairs windows to block the hot afternoon sun just before the wonderful sunsets each and every night. A/C was great. Overall, would rent it again, just wish for more comfortable furniture.

Christmas at Casa Fuego
We were so pleased with the accommodations. The house was a very livable, comfortable and really great space for our family. The location is the absolute best, that could not have been any better! Thanks for being so responsive to all of our questions and needs, we had a great time and will definitely rent it again.

Casa Fuego - Pros and Cons
We just returned from a two-week stay at Casa Fuego with 4 adults and 1 teenager. (Second week was 2 adults and 1 teenager). I want to compliment the property managers Jarrod and Meagan for their hospitality, helpfulness, and responsiveness during the booking process and during our stay. Having lived in Playa Negra for 12 years, they have the local experience needed to make recommendations for tours, restaurants, etc. They were never intrusive (living in a nearby neighborhood), but were always quickly available for any needs we had. They even brough extra fans for use in the non-AC living area. I will focus this review on Pros, Cons, and recommendations.
Pros: Location right on the beech with incredible sunset views. If you surf, you couldn't ask for a better spot. The pool is extremely clean with good outdoor furniture. Plenty of beach towels and bath towers are provided. Local restaurants (inexpensive and luxury) are nearby. Privacy is good. Security, considering you are in a third-world country is good. Felt safe at all times in the neighborhood and on beach. Room ACs worked extremely well. Beds were comfortable and not worn. Unit was well cleaned when we arrived. Plenty of kitchenware, pots, pans, and appliances. Internet was reliable. Security guards in neighborhood at night. Good safe for valuables.
Cons: Ceiling fans need to be replaced for better air flow. Screen doors to outside in living area need to be replaced. Microwave needs to be replaced. You will have some bugs (it's a humid tropical environment and expected, so not a complaint). A few others things could be touched-up or improved. No clothes dryer, so you have to line dry clothes. Washer is located in separate, dimly lit room off of garage, so not the most convenient location. No dishwasher. About 5 miles of rough dirt roads to reach house, so SUV highly recommended. Drive to grocery store is 30-40 minutes, but only about 7-8 miles.
Recommendations; Download Google Map of Costa Rica prior to arrival. Cell signal availability for data throughout the country can be spotty, which can cause navigation issues when map needs to update. Be prepared for the rough roads. You won't get stuck, but the driving is slow due to ruts, pot holes, etc. DO NOT rent a sedan. You will want an SUV.
Note to owner: Didn't know how much I would miss a clothes dryer. Moving washer to better location and adding dryer would be a huge upgrade. Upgrade ceiling fans. Fix screen doors.

Relax at a great house and incredible location
If you are looking for a comfortable, clean and spacious place to relax – look no further. You really can't beat the location of this beach front property.
As soon as we arrived, our stresses melted away. Our girls immediately walked down to the beach where they explored, surfed and played in the waves all week long.
Activity level? You choose. We could easily just hang out and not feel obliged to do anything because we felt so remote from the hustle and bustle of towns. But at the same time Jarrod and Meaghan were right there to suggest local eating places (they were all good!) and close-by activities like zip lining.
We spent most of our time on the back deck/pool and the bedrooms were very comfortable with the quiet air-conditioning. The entire house was laid out in a way that just made everything easy. When we did venture out, Tamarindo was a nice place to explore and gave us an opportunity to shop in a grocery store more to what we are used to in the States (AutoMercado).
As all the other reviews have stated, Jarrod and Meaghan were so helpful before and during our stay. If anything came up, they were quick to respond and their recommendations were all great.
Thanks Jarrod and Meaghan!

Excellent!
If you are looking for quiet, gorgeous views, amazing pool, place to escape, Casa Fuego is perfect! Playa Negra is remote and quiet leaving time to really relax. Casa Fuego is right on the best part of the beach. We enjoyed sunsets every night from the pool deck as well as the second floor deck which has an amazing expansive view of the ocean. We spent 90% of our time hanging out in the living space around the pool, which was by far the best pool out of all of the houses I have rented from VRBO thus far. My husband and son both surfed right outside of our house. We were able to sit on our deck and watch them surf. We also enjoyed many meals at Playa Negra Hotel which is walking distant on the beach.
Thank you Jarrod and Meaghan for being so responsive to all our calls and emails. It was a pleasure to deal with you both!

Home away from home,
Casa Fuego is perfectly situated on the beach Playa Negra. Where there is surfing, snorkeling and beach combing galore. The pool is the perfect size. Walk down the beach for a meal at the Hotel Playa Negra or visit one of the many other Tico restaurants close by. If you want to explore, Meaghan and Jarrod can help you find the perfect excursions.

Overall BEST experience!
The home owners were such a pleasure to work with and really provided the easiest and most enjoyable experience booking not only the house but also activities throughout our trip! They made planning our vacation fun and informative. They were able to set us up with private chefs for the house, massages to come to the house, and pretty much any outdoor activity you could think of. We will definitely be booking with them again in the future!!

Best Time ever!
We loved our stay at Casa Fuego. The house is much nicer than it looks in the pictures. Jarrod and Meaghan were super helpful and nice. I honestly think it was one of the best homes we have ever stayed in. It's right in front of the best surf break and not far from Playa Avellanas and the Lola restaurant if you need easier surf or a different beach. Make sure to eat at the local french restaurant and ask for Dean Jamon. He is super nice and can take you fishing. We highly recommend this house to anyone interested.

Simply the best location on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica!
We were looking for a longer term getaway from our nasty Canadian winter when we arrived at Casa Fuego for the month of January. We met our managers, Jarrod and Meaghan at the gates to the private area where the house is located and had the grand introductory tour to Casa Fuego. Our mouths dropped as we came up to the house and looked out across the infinity pool to the beach right outside our front yard. It is spectacular! We were travelling with our daughter and husband and our four grandchildren, ages 2-8, and when the kids saw their new playground for a month, they could not believe it. So we had the best time of our lives, playing in the waves on a spectacular beach. We loved the variety on the beach, with stretches of great sand and then areas of rock with tidal pools, snorkelling (saw leatherback turtles) and just walking for hours and beach combing. There are lots of places to go close by with the little town of Los Pargos at our doorstep, yet far enough away that we always felt we were in our own little place of paradise. A real big plus for us was the availability and attention we received from Jarrod and Meaghan whenever we needed something at the house or just wanted information about the local area. Their attention to us was prompt and courteous and we felt like part of the Playa Negra family in no time. The house itself suited our family perfectly. We slept in our own apartment over the detached garage with the kids having the house and everyone coming together for communal meals and lounging on the outside deck with superb views over the beach and spectacular sunsets. We are already booked for next winter. Can't wait. I highly recommend a trip to Costa Rica and you will fall in love with Casa Fuego and Jarrod and Meaghan. Mucho Gusto!

Casa Fuego in Playa Negra is the perfect getaway!
Casa Fuego in Playa Negra was the perfect getaway for our family (my husband and I, our two kids, and my parents). The house slept us all comfortably and we enjoyed beautiful views of Playas Sandy and Negra from the bottom and top floor balconies. The pool and pool area was perfect for hanging out, having a BBQ, swimming and enjoying the sun. We had our own private path to the beach where the whole family was able to surf any time of the day! Jarrod and Meaghan were super accommodating and available for anything we needed. What a relaxing, adventurous few days! Thank you!

Casa Fuego is the place! I have traveled all over central america and this was the easiest most stress free trip i have taken. Steps off the beach with one of the best point breaks in CR just down the beach!! what more can you ask for?! Jarrod, Meaghan and Mariah took great care of us and answered any and all questions that we had. They dialed us in! from the rental car to the zip line tours etc. I highly recommend PNVR and Casa Fuego! we will be back very soon!

Relaxation in Peaceful Paradise
Casa Fuego exceeded all expectations! The house is located on one of the most beautiful and peaceful stretches of beach in all of Costa Rica. You can enjoy spectacular sunsets, swim in the house pool, take beach walks and surf. It's all at your fingertips! On top of that, Meaghan and Jarrod are fabulous hosts-super accommodating, laid back locals who know how to make you feel at home! I highly recommend staying at Casa Fuego! You will not be disappointed!

From Florida
We had a fabulous time during our stay at Casa Fuego. The house is beautiful and a great location for families with its infinity pool and located right on the beach. Playa Negra is a very friendly town with several great restaurants to choose from. Jarrod and Meaghan were great property managers who were always available to answer any questions that arose. Had such a great time! Can't wait to come back!

Wow!
If you're looking for a relaxing, slower pace of life in a beautiful setting right on the beach managed by two of the most helpful and kind people ever, go to Casa Fuego! This was our first trip to Costa Rica and I'm so grateful we selected a property managed by Jarrod and Meaghan. They were always super responsive, eager to help, and full of information related to life in Costa Rica and the many available activities, restaurants, etc. (and never tired of answering my plethora of questions)! They ensured we made it in fine, checked in on us regularly and were 5 minutes away if we needed anything, but we never felt "crowded". Payment and reservation process was very easy.
Casa Fuego is ideal if you like outdoor living. We spent our time going between the amazing black sand beach just steps down the path and the patio/pool area. We had access to beach chairs, sand toys for the kids, boogie boards and there are a lot of surf shops around for board rental/lessons. The beach has soft and packed super fine sand, clean water, the best waves (sometimes big but no crazy currents like in Hawaii) and the shells were amazing. It was never crowded.
The patio is well equipped with many comfy lounge chairs, dining table and chairs, a charcoal grill, awesome views and shade. We loved the infinity pool which was always the perfect temp and cleaned/cared for by the nicest guys. Pool is 4 ft and deeper so bring floats for non-swimmers.
The house had tons of room, was very clean, and the kitchen well equipped. I loved that the TV was DVDs only and the breezy area lent well to hanging laundry to dry (elements of the slower pace we loved.) If you have young walkers, there are no stair or deck railings and the pool deck has multiple levels (but there is a baby gate at the top of the indoor stairs.) We have 5 and 8 yr olds and they were totally fine. We appreciated the fans a lot and we LOVED the upper deck views.
A car with good clearance helps as the roads in the area are mostly dirt with plenty of bumps but we saw plenty small yaris types too. We loved exploring the area. If you enjoy horses, do yourself a favor and go to Costa Rican Equestrian Vacations for lessons with Molly or a tour by horseback. Wildlife abounds: iguanas, howler monkeys, fin whales, sting rays, song birds, bats, praying mantis, giant grasshoppers, scorpions, wandering dogs and horses, fish, humpback whales, pelicans, geckos, crabs!
An unforgettable trip at an incredible spot! Thanks guys!!

Home away from home!
This was the third consecutive Christmas we have spent in Playa Negra at Casa Fuego and when we arrive it is like coming home. The house is very comfortable with superb outdoor living around the pool and spectacular views. The location couldn't be better with a sandy beach right out front. We travel as a family with 3 adult children and this year they all brought their significant others along, and we had plenty of space for everyone to have a comfortable stay. Jarrod and Meaghan stayed right on top of all of our needs and requests and helped make it the perfect vacation. They are great people. We can't wait for our next visit.

Most beautiful vacation, most beautiful house - this could be home!
This house is absolutely perfect! Do not be fooled by the boxy exterior when you pull up in your car - when you round the corner to the front door, you will see what is in store. The inside is exquisitely appointed with everything anyone could want to be comfortable and living the pura vida. The view is spectacular and we had the supreme good fortune of viewing one of the most incredible sunsets ever from the upstairs lanai. Do not hesitate to let this be your house while visiting Playa Negra. Meaghan and Jarrod are fantastic and will help you happily with anything you may need or want - they will also leave you alone and let you be happily on your own, should you desire. Do rent a horse from Ray, who arrives by horse to clean the pool, and let him show you the beaches to the north. Did not want to leave and definitely will come back. Thank you!!!!!

Amazing House, best location in Playa Negra
We had the Villa for 2 amazing weeks, its right on the beach with the best view of the peak. Just wait for the right time of day and when you see the peak empty and waves pounding its time to go, you will be surfing in less then a minute. The house is fully equipped with all that you need. If there is any problem, the care taker Jarrod is always available and will tend to your every need, he really is a great, friendly and super nice guy.

Perfect house to surf and relax
We have been to Costa 6 times, all enjoyable, but this might be the best. Not only is the house perfect and the best location in Negra, but working with Jarrod and everyone he put us in touch with was a pleasure. They take care of everything from Transportation to fishing etc...If you like hassel free vacations in the perfect spot this is the place and these are the people you want to deal with. Jarrod, Doug etc. thanks for a great week. see you for 2 weeks or longer next year.

Great Experience!
My wife and I and our two kids spent the month of February 2012 at Casa Fuego and we had an outstanding experience. The house is built in the perfect location with a great view of Playa Negra beach which starts about 100’ from the pool. The beachbreak in front of the house was excellent for boogieboarding and swimming.
We frequently ate lunch and dinner by walking 100 yards down the beach to a restaurant. We shopped for food in Tamarindo, 30 minutes away, and found many great restaurants within a 1 mile radius of the house. I’d recommend renting a car during your stay. Jarrod and his wife Meaghan took care of us really well, from our pickup at San Jose Airport to local tours and advice. They are great people and we plan on returning again.
