The building is very nice and the breakfast is fairly good.
Neglected facilities, filthy changing/locker rooms with rusty cabinets and broken tiles. Very cold Jacuzi and swimming pool only available on one of the two days we stayed there.

Staff were very attentive and engaging. Food was lovely Keith on reception and Una.
The bar closed too early

The kettle which came room was not clean. I had request to be changed. The heater did not work at all. Again had to insist to get a handy heater which was not providing sufficient heat. Hotel restaurant dinner was not good. I am vegetarian and I was made to keep on changing my order since the restaurant would not have the dish which I ordered from the menu.

We like this hotel. Room was comfortable. It was one of the old rooms that needed a makeover. But bed was comfortable. And nice view over garden instead of a courtyard. It was also quiet to say there was a wedding on. Food ok not thrilled this time.
The duvet cover didn’t fit the bed size too small. No bar staff all in doing wedding . People whom were staying there had to wait for a drink. My pie I had had no meat in it. Breakfast soon went cold because plates weren’t warm. Need a plate warmer. If they have one they need to use it. Don’t know if because they we’re short of staff due to wedding going on but also need to think about other guests paying to stay there.

food
room 133 had a mattress which was like a comedy spring version. Every time we turned it made a series of loud noises and the springs pinged into you. They moved us but its a disruption when you have unpacked for one night and I cannot believe they didn't know about it because no one would put up with it. I didn't ...and I can sleep on anything... but not this. Why would you ever thing this was acceptable to offer up to people - hoping people will just put up with it and not complain? Shame. Also black mold on the bathroom tiles. No No no. There are products for this.

Lovely hotel with friendly staff great facilities and very good value.

Location, good parting , nice rooms
Didn’t like that the prices printed in the room information did not match the price charged
Rooms service £3.50 in the documentation, but told £5.00 at the bar.
Toothbrush kit - £1.00 in the documentation but told £1.50 at reception - would not expect these to be charged for at a hotel of this stature.

the history
the beer selection, a traditional English hotel should have hand pulled beers or at least English beer options

Room was spotless. Food was superb. We’ve eaten in a lot of hotels!
The shower could have been more powerful - that’s all.

Lovely hotel, room was nice, clean and comfortable with everything I needed. Only downside was lack of parking when events are on. We could not get parked in any of the car parks and there is not much parking available outside the hotel grounds. The breakfast was also average.
We couldn’t get parked at the hotel, we where attending a wedding there but all car parks where full and there isn’t parking outside of the hotel grounds

Easy to find and good parking. Reception staff were friendly and welcoming. Room was clean and had everything needed, Good for overnight stay.
Restaurants were very busy with limited menu options. Would recommend booking in advance.

lovely location friendly staff
booked on booking.com and we had to pay £25 extra for breakfast even tho the rooms were the same rate as our friends paid … the breakfast was amazing choice but it was cold.

Free parking was plentiful, but spread over 3 different areas. The location is very handy for getting into Darlington, or getting out to Bishop Auckland for the KYNREN show we attended.
The rooms were large and spacious, a great relief after staying in a tiny room in Lumley Castle the previous 4 nights! The bathroom fixings were high quality and we had plenty of space even if we had stayed for more than 2 nights.
The restaurant was a very large dining room, well decorated, but the menus was typical pub food . This seemed to appeal to most of the diners who were under 40. The food was good.
We did not have time to experience the Leisure activities.
As in many hotels and restaurants, staffing is a problem. The receptionists were efficient, but the some of the dining room waiters were under18 and had no experience. We had to for cutlery to eat our soup! When we ordered a Tia Maria liqueur coffee he had to go to ask if that was a drink on the menu, then came back to check how it was made! The result was good however.
We ordered breakfast in our room as we would be leaving before the restaurant would be open. The breakfast tray arrived at the requested time, but there was no butter with the toast. It was not worth phoning though for a 2nd delivery and risk delaying our departure.
