The staff at the Marquis are wonderful, a team of genuinely caring people. The room was lovely, comfortable, clean and the bath was something special. The proximity to the road meant you couldn’t open a window due to noise, but air con proved to be a saving grace during the night as we stayed during a heatwave. The pub is nice, the garden does a good job of masking the fact it’s in a car park. The bar food was great, chips and nachos spot on. The dinner menu was ok, not bad but a bit bland.

we stayed in The Granby room. the road outside is quite busy , particularly early in the morning so we were woken early because we’d chosen to sleep with the window open. There was an air con unit but it’s not the same as fresh air! The bathroom was frustrating and had obviously been designed by someone who preferred looks to functionality. The basins were in the bedroom so once you’d used the toilet you had to return to the bedroom to wash your hands. The bath was very deep so I needed help getting in and out ( im only 5’ tall). There is nowhere to put your toiletries once in the bath and the bottles on the wall are too high to reach. Using the over bath shower wasn’t much better as the taps and toiletries were behind the shower curtain. The curtains didn’t meet either so a lot of water escaped the bath on to the floor. I’m sure a couple of tweaks would remedy these issues. The water was scalding hot!
