Good walks from the hotel. Good bird life in the garden around the chalets. Helpful staff.
Restaurant was very limited as being the end of the season we were the only guests.

The location is incredible: beautiful but calm and peaceful (I really couldn't believe that this place wasn't overrun by tourists, less beautiful places are), colibris at breakfast, incredible (but challenging) trails with waterfalls at the reserve (you actually need two full days for the reserve, although I only had one because I also visited Cloudbridge). Also a big thank you to the very friendly and helpful staff: they made great suggestions for my hiking day in the reserve, they drove me to my cabin with a car because there was heavy rain when I arrived, meals were great, ...

Our first impression was about the property size and beauty! And we were impressed how clean and lovely the room was. Amazing! It’s definitely a paradise! Lots of hiking trails right on the property! Very helpful and friendly staff and owners. Good restaurant. Everything was great, especially how they took care of this huge reserva

Yes it was all pretty good. The best thing was the close proximity to the bird feeders which were in constant and varied use - quite spectacular, Highlight every day was having breakfast while watching the wildlife!
I think a better map of the trails would have been good though artistically it was fun. Think the facility could do more to promote the trails and wildlife to be spotted.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Overall we felt that the whole stay, plus food was too expensive. the rooms were clean and comfortable and had a youth hostel feel which didn’t align with the price or 5 star rating

The accommodation is set in a stunning and immense mountain reserve full of wonderful gardens, viewpoints and trails. The units are standalone and well equipped and the communal area is nicely set out with plenty of seating options indoors and out. Add to that really helpful staff and a good kitchen and you have the full package.
Nothing I can recall.

Everything about the stay was fantastic. Kenneth and his team couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome. The food was lovely, and the accommodation very clean. The trails were extensive and enabled us to see many birds, and mammals - exceeding our expectations.
Nothing, everything was brilliant.

Family run business up in the hills where the temperature is cooler and with a different set of flora and fauna. It's an adapted farm that has been planted into some lovely zones. Staff attentive. Restaurant available. Rooms excellent.
Need to invest less in the restaurant and more in their nature reserve. Staff knowledge on the flora and fauna was scant but you could get a good steak!! Not really why people would visit the reserve.

Clean to perfection. Not even a single dust on anything. Crazy!
All employees are super kind and attentive. They speak fantastic English. It was such a relief since we had hard time in SJO.
Great food with wholegrain and vegitarian options. amazing smooties and french toast, cut fruits!
The best birdwatching at the restaurant!
Amazing property. The wild life, trekking, water falls, jaw dropped amazing. We stayed 3 nights but you can probably do 4 and still have more to see.
Hot water always available!
Property is a bit old.
Wish more vegitarian food options were available. We don't eat simulated meat so the menu eas very limited for us.
Map needs improvement.

The beautiful cabins are set in a private nature reserve where there are people working to preserve the environment. Trails are well signposted and extensive. . We walked all day without seeing others and saw a wide selection of birds. The staff are friendly. The accommodation is excellent. The thing that impressed us was the absolutely clean windows for wildlife viewing! There are bird feeding tables outside the main reception with hummingbirds and tanagers.
The food arrangements need sorting out. Food is tasty but very expensive. This means we took in our own breakfast and made sandwiches, then chose cheaper options from the menu.
I feel the reserve should look at half board packages. That way they have some control over who eats with them and what they offer . At the moment there is an extensive menu offered and clearly a good cook, but it can't all be fresh. There must be a lot of waste also. I would like the place to continue to do well as it is an important location.

Kennith is excellent in running Talamanca. He believes in developing local people to work there and the way he teaches them is an extension of how he himself works which is wonderful.
The property offers different wild life. it is quiet and relaxing with only a few lodges.

We were welcomed Moises at the reception, we were impressed by how helpful and welcoming he was, one can tell that he really loves what he does.
The food at the restaurant was really good!
They started a lawnmower or small tractor at 6:30am , that was not a nice sound to wake up to.

Very quiet and nice bungalows. We could store our luggage to do the chirripo hike and also 2h laundry service was great.
Price for bungalow only was quite high, however we could use the reserve which was well maintained and protects the nature which is great

• Beautiful (bird-filled) gardens around our room (cabin) and the restaurant.
• The ability to see birds at the restaurant was delightful with several well-maintained hummingbird and banana feeders surrounded by natural features to enable great birding and bird photography. We saw 20 different birds while eating breakfast.
• The staff was very attentive and accommodating.
• The grounds of Talamanca were excellent with a variety of habitats. We walked 7 miles on their trails (on our own) and saw 65 bird species the first day (1/1/2022)
• The road to Talamanca Nature Reserve (from San Isidro de El General) was similar (or better) versus the road to Hotel Savegra). The road between Talamanca Nature Reserve and the (excellent) Cloud Forest Reserve was pretty steep and rocky, but quite doable with our rented Toyota RAV4.
• We also hiked ~8 miles at the nearby Cloud Forest Reserve.
• The birding at Talamanca was better than at Savegra Hotel, and had much better bird/hummingbird feeder stations.
We would like a way to make coffee or heat water in our room. We drink a lot of coffee, and it's not convenient to buy it at the restaurant. With that said, the coffee in the restaurant was excellent, and the views of birds ever better.

Fantastic spot! Our favorite stay in Costa Rica. Great food, beautiful gardens, miles of wonderful (ranging from easy to hard in difficulty) hiking trails through gardens / primary forest / mountain heights / waterfalls, fantastic wildlife right outside the restaurant, tons of birds, kind and extremely attentive staff.

The staff were wonderful.
Description is intentionally false. It is not a 5 star hotel. The facility lacks air conditioning, heat, refrigerator, TV and the wifi is spotty at best. I decided to leave after the 1st day. I was prepared to lose one paid night but decided to ask for a refund. I was told by the staff that the owner would refund me. All I had to do was cancel on booking. He even comped my breakfast for good will. So we booked another place to stay, left and 4 hrs later I was informed there would be no refund. Disappointing, but it was their prerogative to do so. However, telling me one thing and doing another shows the how business is done there. I do share some of the blame for not verifying that a 5 star hotel has basic amenities. Lesson learned.

This is an excellent hotel to stay at for hiking the Talamanca mountains near San Isidro. They have 4000 plus acres and many hiking trails. It is also very close to cloud bridge reserve and also the trail head to Chirripo. The staff is very friendly, the restaurant is excellent, and the rooms are great.

Location is isolated so no choice but to dine in reserve. Meals very good but in comparison to similar dining elsewhere were a tad more expensive
