Beautiful view, sunsets were beautiful. Cabin was perfect for our family. Enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinner there.

This property is so much more beautiful than the pictures show. It’s spotless clean, quite, feels secluded, but it’s only a short drive to W Jefferson. The view from the deck and the hot tub are absolutely stunning. Six stars as far as I am concerned.

We had such a great stay at this cabin. The views from the porch are gorgeous and we spent lots of time out there enjoying the hot tub and patio. The cabin is cozy and compact but well laid out and comfortable. We cooked several meals in the well equipped kitchen (heads up, no dishwasher). The location is great - feels so quiet and private, but only about 15 minutes to West Jefferson. Lots of nearby hikes and we loved exploring the river which was easy to access from the property. We would love to return!!

I've been to the mountains many times but when I walked up on the porch and seen the view,my mouth dropped..sooo beautiful ❤️

The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. The wifi worked great. It seemed like it was far away from civilization, but it was only a short trip to a grocery store and to Downtown Jefferson's shops and restaurants. The mountain view from the porch cabin was worth every penny! Highly recommend!

Decided to get away for a long weekend with some friends. The cabin was clean, cozy, and has some outstanding views.

We had an amazing stay at this property! Owner was extremely responsive and accommodating. The cabin itself was clean, well-equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay and then some, and with breathtaking views to boot. We especially loved all the toys, my 1 year old loved the building blocks! We’ve stayed at several cabin rentals over the years and this one just takes the cake. We’ll definitely be rebooking.

Was a great place to relax and take in the surrounding views. The view off the deck was spectacular and the New River flowing below just added to this overall beauty.

If younger, we could appreciate more. The driveway is steep and not easy to turn around in. But that could be us! We were in a big truck. It may not have required more than front wheel drive if backend had more weight to it. I cannot emphasize enough how awesome the panoramic views are!

Perfect place to experience the mountains of NC! The hot tub was an added bonus! It’s close to the river. The house was cozy and had everything we needed to cook meals for our family. Host was promptly responsive. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Brian was the best host I've ever had as far as communicating. The hot tub was crucial as we were hiking hard every day, but the views were stunning. We rented this property for both and were not disappointed. We hope to make it back next year!

Very relaxing stay?

The cabin sits on top of a cliff overlooking a river and mountains. It is very private and has everything you would need including a washer/ dryer, grill and television. It was perfectly located for fishing, mountain biking and shopping in nearby West Jefferson. I would highly recommend this cabin.

Beautiful cabin. Hiked some nearby trails, went tubing down the river, and explored West Jefferson. The owner has a guest book in the cabin for all guests to sign and write about their trip. Our trip was based largely on what other guests wrote in the book! Awesome idea. I wish more places did this! Lots of fun and you’ll be surrounded by beautiful mountains. The driveway is a bit steep, but my 2 wheel drive, 4cyl Tacoma pulled it off. We drove past the cabin on arrival. The GPS will bring you to the general area, but once you get to the GPS location, it’s on the left hand side down the slope. You’ll see a red reflector in the ground to the right. You definitely feel like you have your own private oasis in the mountains at this cabin. You can’t see any neighbors. We took a walk to the river to scope it out; you’re better off driving down to the river if you’re going to swim or fish. It’s quite the hike back up to the cabin. Loved our stay!

My wife and I absolutely loved staying here. The property owner was very nice and helpful during our visit and immediately replied to our questions that we had. The cabin and view was exactly as described, and we would love to stay here again.

The best thing about this cabin is the large porch and beautiful view. The kitchen is well outfitted with good pots, pans, dishes and silverware. Note that there is not a dishwasher.The bedrooms are very small but the beds are comfortable and the small bathrooms are nicely remodeled. There are no bedside tables and lights. The hot tub was fun. It is in a great location to hike at Grayson Highlands. We hope to come back!

The description fit the property perfectly. Have never stayed north of West Jefferson. We loved the location, easy access. Thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary weekend trip here. We hope to return again in the future and highly recommend Riverwood Retreat.

We stayed in this cabin with my husband, my mom and 2 kids (4 and 10 years old) and everyone had an amazing stay. First of all, the cabin had breath taking views and the sound of the river down the cliff was so relaxing. We stayed during Easter, and the cabin was decorated so nicely- our kids loved it. The cabin was equipped with everything that we needed during our stay ( kitchen stuff, toys, books, cleaning supplies etc.) Although it was raining most of our stay and it was cold outside, we could still enjoy the outdoors since part of the deck was covered and there was a gas fire-pit. Brian- our host - was very responsive. Every time I have sent him a message, he replied back in minutes and was super helpful whenever I needed help. Since only the last day of our stay was sunny, Brian was so nice and allowed us to stay pass the check-out time so we could enjoy the outdoors and the hot tub. He was by far the best host we had for a property we stayed in our trips. I would have given him 10 stars if I could 😊 We absolutely recommend this cabin to everyone who wants to stay in the mountains for a relaxing getaway. We will definitely be back for our next mountain trip !

The owner was always prompt with all communications. Always immediate, clear responses. The cabin had the most marvelous view. Even though it was a cold, winter weekend...we enjoyed the view of New River and soaking in the hot tub and sitting by the firepit. This is my most favorite cabin I have ever stayed in whether in West Virginia, Virginia. North Carolina, Maine, or Georgia. Plus, W. Jefferson was a delight to visit.

The Cabine was perfect for us, super clean , confortable. All appliances work perfect. We Love cabin and view my dog enjoy the mountains more than me .

A cozy cabin with beautiful views. We enjoyed the Christmas decorations and the cleanliness. The cabin had everything we needed. We were there when the storm “Elliott” went through. Winds made it about minus 27 but the owner had plenty of propane for us to stay warm. We also got some snow. The owner checked in on us during the storm and replied back as soon as we lost power. The power stayed on through the majority of the storm and cable stayed on so we could watch for weather updates. The storm didn’t stop us from visiting the cute little town of West Jefferson. Hope to come back during the summer to enjoy the river which is right below the house! Definitely loved the cabin and the views from the hot tub were breathtaking.

Excellent location, beautiful views! The cabin was well stocked, the deck was awesome for sitting and relaxing. Everything was so clean. The neighbors were very friendly. Hot tub was amazing!! Nice shops in nearby West Jefferson. Plenty of state parks nearby for walking and hiking. Lots of local fisherman spots. We enjoyed our vacation immensely.

Overall, I would stay again. Everything was an easy process, and the place was as expected. The ONLY complaint we had was the hot tub. It was not really that clean, it felt slimy and smelled like mildew. We usually seek out cabins with a nice view and hot tub but this was disappointing as far as hot tub. Views great, house cozy, layout worked well, deck was great, the pics of the house don't give it as much justice in my opinion. The driveway is gravel and steep which wasn't in the description but we had an SUV. We also asked host for an hour later checkout which he allowed and we really appreciated that.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The cabin was easy to access with the provided door code, and we arrived to find it spotlessly clean. The kitchen was fully stocked with cooking supplies (utensils, pots & pans, silverware, etc). There were two bedrooms, though we only slept in one. The mattress was a bit firm, but comfortable, and the blankets were nice too. The bedroom had a TV, though we didn't use it. Both bathrooms were clean and functioned well. The best part was the incredible view of the mountains and river. We went at a perfect time to see all the foliage, and spent much of the time during our stay sitting outside, relaxing and listening to the river or the birds. There is a propane fire barrel on the deck that we lit several times, as well as a propane grill we used too. The real (wood) fire pit is back behind the cabin; my only complaint about that was it's very dark to walk back from at night. The hot-tub was clean and running when we arrived, and we enjoyed using it while looking out at the incredible view. This cabin is also dog-friendly, we stayed with our small 20lb dog, who loved the stay and sniffing all the leaves and such. We only reached out to the host once a few weeks before our trip, and he did respond, though it took a little bit. We did not need to reach out to him during the actual stay, because everything we needed was in the guide he sent. All in all a lovely, peaceful stay. My only advice is that the driveway is gravel and very steep, we had trouble getting back up it to leave, so make sure you have good tires!

The cabin was fantastic! Quiet, with a great view, I watched an Eagle sore over the river for 5 minutes.
