Location, the house itself was a very attractive and grand looking Portuguese property. Although the rooms were so full of the owner's bric a brac you had to move items in order to make room to place your things. Only 3 hangers in the wardrobe for two people. The locks on the bedroom and bathroom doors were extremely difficult to operate. You could not possibly move around quietly.

I advised we would be arriving at 2pm. When we arrived no one was at home. I telephoned and was told they would be back at 4pm. It was then agreed 3pm. By the time the owner and her son arrived it was 3.10pm and there were two other guests waiting outside on the pavement with us in 34 degrees. The owner ignored us, no greeting, no apologies for keeping us waiting. We were shown into a room with a large double futon. I had requested twin beds. We were then shown into a room with twin beds which was so small that we could not both walk in the room at the same time. One small window and the aircon would not work. The young man, was apologetic and did eventually fix the aircon but by that time I had decided that two adults could not stay in such a tiny room so I asked to be moved to the room with the large double futon. This was agreed, no problems, but it meant that my friend and I had to share a bed! We were then asked by the owner if we would mind sharing our bathroom!! I am well aware of the difficulties Covid 19 has caused small businesses, so reluctantly agreed. The room should never be advertised as having a private external bathroom as there are actually two rooms without ensuites and only one external bathroom! So if full, the bathroom would always have to be shared. Breakfast is included and served between 9-10am. The owner placed our clean crockery etc, on a used table with dirty dishes before placing it in front of us. What about Covid 19 precautions??? Disgraceful. The next morning we went to breakfast at 9.00am hoping to get a better service. At 9.35 I went to the kitchen and said excuse me but we have been waiting for 35 minutes and still nothing, not even a cup of coffee. She did not respond and I returned to my table to then have the sullen owner pour coffee into my cup from a height, spilling it over the table, ignoring my friend. She then appeared with 1 roll, 2 slices of bread some cheap ham and cheese with some egg : breakfast for two?

We loved the worm hospitality. The smooth and charming elegance of the house. The kindness of the host family. The lovely breakfast on the terrace with Fado music in background. The refined style of the rooms and the nice piece of art and forniture of this beautiful, Adorable Coimbra House.

A lot of stairs to climb and narrow steps. To be fair we should add lift to our filters when booking. No exactly en suite bathroom. Bathroom across the hallway.
