location was good not far from centre or the beach. room was lovely and comfortable, shower one of the best . Duncan was really nice and made our stay exceptional with a great breakfast.

Working in North Shields, I found the Athol House close enough to the job I was working on. The room and facilities were first class and host Duncan was very knowledgeable about the local amenities. The breakfast was really good and I will definitely be back and recommend to colleagues.

No negative comments

Friendly helpful staff and a great breakfast. Very comfortable beds too. We were made to feel most welcome and would definitely stay again if we return to the area.

We felt nervous that there wasn't a safe bespoke car park so we had to leave our van with all our equipment and tools parked in the street around the corner. However, we were assured that it would be safe there, which it was.

I was staying in this room on my own, it had a double bed and 2 singles, with tea/coffee facilities, 2hobs, fridge and microwave with 2 sinks, TV and lovely wardrobe, chair and cabinets for £45 it was excellent value, the host Duncan was a great jolly host and what a lovely breakfast.

Well he is starting to make ensuite rooms, but I had to go down a flight of stairs to use the toilet and separate bathroom which was shared.

Duncan the host was very friendly More than happy to do anything for your needs Guest house very clean and comfortable. In the process of making every room ensuite Duncan cooked a fantastic breakfast Nice and enjoyable stay.

All perfect

The breakfast was excellent. The location was perfect, close to the house where Eileen Bair, George Orwell's wife was brought up spending her life at 35 Beach road from the age of 2 until she went to Oxford. There is now a plaque on the fence placed there by the George Orwell Society. I hope to return next year in September but it is a long drive from Walmer to South Shields - 400 miles but I do love the area.

Difficult to think of anything better. Duncan is a super chap and was so understanding at my arriving late. Will certainly stay again if I can get up there next year

Booked for Great North Run so location was perfect, only a 15 minute walk from the finish line. Nice light clean rooms. The host Duncan was superb. Bed was a little soft but nothing that stopped me from sleeping. Some road noise but it wasn't that warm so didn't have the windows open at night, but was ok during the brief time we were there during the day. Parking was 20 metres away down a side road, so no issues there.

Nothing really stands out as a negative. Would stay again for Great North, but it's already booked for next year :-(
