Welcoming and friendly hosts. Interesting and fun location. Walk to restaurants. Nice hiking and scenic areas nearby. The apartment had everything that you could need. Very comfortable and roomy bedroom.
Kitchen is quite tiny to work in.

The location was excellent for us.

Soooo many thoughtful details! I’ve never stayed in a property where my every thought/need seemed answered. And so many luxuries (the shower is marble! There’s a full work desk & printer!) and creative (you have Alexa, essential oil diffuser, Himalayan salt foot rest!) there was also a window fan, a small fan by my bed…. Nice large smart tele. Walk to everything in town. The host communication was very thorough. They also have kayaks & bikes you can use! My only regret is that I wasn’t booked longer, Will definitely be back!
I want to address a previous ‘sketchy outside’ comment that made us a bit nervous at first but turned out to be nothing at all.
There are a couple of historic homes in the process of being quietly restored in the surrounding neighbourhood (the whole town is a historic district) so if you aren’t used to that they could look a bit messy, but the Widow Avery house itself is beautifully restored, just lovely. Don’t miss this hidden gem

This place is amazing! It might look a little sketchy from the outside but it's wonderful on the inside. Furnished with love and care, very cozy and charming. Everything was clean and well cared for, tea and coffee is provided and there is also a little kitchen. It's close to Hallowell's main street full of little shops, restaurants and pubs. We only stayed overnight this time but will stick around longer next time!
The mattress was a little bit too soft for me personally but I still had a good night's sleep!

This place was very clean, charming, & cozy. It was in a great location, just a block or two from restaurants & shopping.

Well organized, everything was labelled with clear instructions. Good location. Quiet.
Two hours after check-in time, we were phoned and told our original booking was not available. The new accommodation had a shared bathroom, terrible mattress, and very little space in the room.

Very cozy, more amenities than expected. Andrea, the hostess, was very nice.
The property has old pine floors, and you are expected to take your shoes off. This not a problem for me as I was wearing slip on sandals, but a bit unwieldy for my husband. Had he known ahead of time, he would have brought slip on shoes.

This is half of a duplex (up/down). The apartment is stocked with every gadget imaginable, plus access to a hot tub, sauna and gym. Full kitchen (small). I felt like I could have moved in with my toothbrush and some food. Very pleasant, and close to a quaint little town and public walking trail. Very pleasant stay, I would stay again. The price was extremely good for the amenities.
I didn't realize I would be sharing an apartment with a stranger. Each person has a locking bedroom door, which was good. I was lucky the other person was nice and only stayed one night. That should be made clear in the description. Next time I would contact the host and rent both bedrooms or share with a friend to ensure privacy. But if you are traveling on a budget and don't care about sharing, it is a great deal. There are several buildings here, so if you and a friend are booking separately, you may wind up in a different house unless you contact the host. (This happened to the person I shared the apartment with.

Well designed and thoughtful room with all necessary amenities and necessities. It is as if they thought everything make the stay comfortable.
Cleanliness and cute room with everything you need.

There wasn't a breakfast. However, there was a coffee maker (Keurig) with pods. There wasn't a stirrer, though - a spoon would have been helpful.
I liked everything about the place. There were two rooms. The "living" and bath rooms were at the top of the stairs - you gain entry through a sliding door. The bedroom had two beds and a door that could be locked.

It is a charming place and a five minute walk to downtown. Owners were very friendly!
I think a continental breakfast would have hit the spot.

Very nice accommodations, if we travel that way again we will try to book them. Never met the owner/operator which was different. We both really like the suite and the location was perfect for our trip.
Can't think of any negative aspects of our stay. We really liked the it!

Everything was great!

It was located perfectly for me as I hadn’t been in Hallowell in 30 years.
The unit was exceptional clean, filtered water was in the fridge. The shower was good, plenty of shampoo, conditioner, body wash & the beds were comfortable. Also the AC system worked great.
Suggestions/questions:
First, I never got check-in information from the owner prior to our arrival. Second, I didn’t know we would be requested to leave our shoes at the door & would have to walk up a flight of potentially very slippery stairs in our socks -for elderly guests, that’s not ideal. Third, there are “information “ sheets that cover both properties the host owns and they were confusing: for instance, there is a laundry in the second property around the corner but we couldn’t find the laundry pods that we were supposed to have for our use. Fourth, the host’s (?) daughter & SIL occupy part of the house & there was a lot of noise(conversations) until about 10PM & music early in the morning. Fifth, only one pillow per bed was provided + one in a sham & no one was around from whom to request additional pillows. Sixth, there are some really off-putting requests on the “information” sheets; please leave the space as clean as you found it…. Was I supposed to wash the sheets & towels, scrub the bathroom, etc.?
There is a refrigerator with freezer, a toaster oven, microwave, Kurig coffee maker in the unit but it really isn’t easy to reheat food in the space.
Parking is kind of crazy too!
Look, we didn’t mind it but probably wouldn’t stay there again.
My suggestion is that the “host” sends check-in info early enough to have it appear on Booking before check-in (I paid for the charges well in advance) & that the residents downstairs remember that some guests turn in before 10PM.
When I met the hostess she asked me to give her place a good rating because the previous guests had given it a poor rating….that struck me as strange.
Oh, the long haired black cat was charming….

Modern facilities in a wonderful period restoration. I fell asleep in my feathered bed and enjoyed the spacious areas. The screened porch is perfect for a morning coffee. I can't wait to visit again and enjoy the sauna.
That I couldn't stay longer.
