The apartment was delightful, the bed sooo comfortable, Christine was so welcoming and helpful, especially with her recommendation of where to eat. The right to roam was refreshing and our dog was also made to feel welcome, not least from the resident canines!

Burnhopeside is just perfect, all the facilities you need for either a quiet weekend break or a larger family gathering. We never stay anywhere else, it feels like our home away from home.

Absolutely excellent beautiful location .Excellent host ,Christine made us so very welcome .The attic apartment is a lovely place to stay and relax.We loved the log fire in the sitting room .The views ,the walk by the river with Christine lovely dog.Everything was excellent Can't wait to return.Christine provides the perfect place to stay .We loved Lanchester .

Two adults and two teenage boys, we stayed 2 nights in the two bedroom apartment in the "roof" of the hall. Although we were warned to expect low ceilings, they were actually higher than expected. I am 5'2" and had no problems at all; both boys are taller than me by an inch or two and, other than the occasional "eaves" clash, they were fine. My husband is 6'4" - so had to remember to duck occasionally :p

We stayed in the beautiful self catering flat. It was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. We also had an excellent breakfast. The hall itself is an interesting building which has been lovingly and thoughtfully furnished and is set in lovely grounds. It’s a peaceful and relaxed place. Philip, our main contact, was very helpful.

We were staying to attend our son’s graduation at Durham university and wanted a calm quite place to escape to during our three nights there. Christine couldn’t have been more welcoming and we were very pleased with the apartment we had on the top floor. Even the dogs made us feel welcome and home from home as we had left ours behind. Christine even booked a series of taxis for us so all our visits into the city were stress free.

This was our second visit to Burnhopeside and it was every bit as lovely as the first. We took the attic apartment which was as comfortable, tasteful, clean and well appointed as the hotel bedrooms. This one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. One feels immediately at home and the comfort and attention to detail is superb. The grounds are beautiful and the location is perfect for trips into Durham or for walks in the surrounding countryside. The fact it is dog-friendly is a huge bonus.

An absolute gem of a building delightfully furnished and in a lovely and easily accessible rural setting. The owner and her team could not have been more caring and helpful, and the breakfast was outstanding. Have visited several times and am always delighted by the quality of the experience.
