The host Eric was super nice! Really felt like we were staying at a friends house instead of a B&B.

The restrooms and showers were a bit simple but that’s part of the charm.

Hele fijne relaxte sfeer, Daniel heeft ons met alles geholpen en we hebben veel gezellige gesprekken gehad! Fijne ruime kamer, prachtig dakterras met mooi uitzicht. Aankomst in het donker was spannend door de smalle steegjes maar het is een fijn rustig en veilig dorpje. Ontbijt is heerlijk, met 2 opties om te kiezen.

Erick and the volunteers were wonderful and very helpful and kind. Breakfast was delicious. The common area was chill and I made a lot of good connections with people from around the world.

Encantado con este hermoso lugar! Si quieres descansar, es el lugar ideal, tienen camas super cómodas tanto en los privado como en el dormitorio. Y muy importante, no se escucha para nada el pueblo, se descansa muy bien y amaneces con el canto de las aves. El dormitorio compartido cuenta con baño dentro de la habitación, excelente en esta época de lluvia para no mojarse.  Rodeado de naturaleza, tienen un jardín muy cuidado. El desayuno riquísimo y siempre fresco, tienen 2 opciones, ademas hay opcion  vegan! El lugar tiene una terraza con vista a los volcanes, espectacular para ver el amanecer, practicar yoga y meditacion También tienen un amistoso y jugueton perro, Anubis, al que hecharemos mucho de menos! Sin duda, cuando regrese al lago los volveré a elegir. Gracias a sus dueños Daniel y Erick por hacer de mi estadía un hermoso recuerdo que no olvidaré!!!

First off, I must say that this place is lovely and very very peaceful. The vast majority of the volunteers and the travellers are just divine and obviously the town is great too but PLEASE, PLEASE, heed the following warning…

I really cannot stress enough quite how horrifying and dangerous an individual the owner of this place is. Eric’s primary goal in running this property is to manipulate women (usually solo travellers) into sleeping with him. Many, many women who pass through this place, if he doesn’t get his way, will report feeling intimidated, coerced and objectified by him in a way that he poorly dresses up as being friendly and welcoming. Those who he doesn’t ‘chose’, will be neglected entirely as guests. Throughout my stay, he was abrasive and hostile towards me. I had a small disagreement with him about the use of the front door key after I checked out (I came back for a further night because my bus was too full), and out of nowhere he became incredibly threatening and aggressive towards me, in front of other guests. He ignored my existence for 2 days afterward. This aggression culminated in one of the most outrageous and inappropriate pieces of behaviour I’ve ever experienced. He confronted me in the hostel, and said to me “get the f*** out of my house, go back to your country, you don’t f***ing know me”, all the while holding a pair of pliers in his hands. I had to leave the hostel immediately, and he gave no tangible reason as to why he was demanding this. He then approached another guest after this and asked if I had been “saying anything about him” and that “I was a bad person” who she shouldn’t be socialising with. This came completely out of nowhere. His obsession with preserving his reputation in front of female guests made him into a terrifying and borderline violent person. I could confidently say that guests staying at this hostel will be putting themselves in danger around this man. He should not be allowed to run this property. You will see countless other reviews sharing this kind of sentiment about Eric, but even despite this, I was absolutely shocked at how he was capable of treating me. Please stay elsewhere.

Grands espaces communs avec plate-forme type canapé, chaise à bascule, tables et chaises, dommage il n'y a qu'un hamac. Très propre !! Lits impeccables. La terrasse sur le toit avec des tapis de yoga et un peu de matériel de muscu, top!!

Everything is cool, staff, location and price. I had an amazing stay for almost a week

The owner is kind if not a bit eccentric. The place had yoga and was a tad alternative for me but it was still lovely. I Loved the garden it gave a nature feel to the space the breakfast was lovely showers were fine communal space also nice.

The room was all single beds on the same level with no curtains, could do with some more privacy just when sleeping. The walk there was dark at night maybe some more motion sensor lights.

- The owners were super friendly and staff were kind and helpful. - Breakfast every morning was great 😊 - Met some nice other guests - Kitchen facilities were great & there were plenty of games/books for when it was raining :) - Great location in San Marcos

I loved this hostel so so much!! I actually ended up staying here on 3 separate occasions, because I loved it that much. The staff are amazing and super friendly. I always met such lovely travellers here and the communal spaces are great. Beds were so comfortable and there were amazing views of 2 volcanos on the roof. It's also a short walk from town and to the yoga forest. Proper chilled vibes here so it was perfect for me to recover from feeling a little travel fatigued! Daniel and Eric thank you, this place made the last month of my trip the best. I will be back for the 4th time next year!

it’s situated in a jungle oasis. it has lots of comfortable communal space, beautiful gardens, a clean communal kitchen and a rooftop terrace with an amazing view! the curtains in the room didn’t let the light in in the morning. was lovely and quiet at night- we slept so well! the best thing about the property was the staff who were so helpful and so kind. we wish we had stayed here longer

Casa Ahau has such a nice atmosphere run by the kindest of people - MY NAME IS ERIC is the owner and he is very funny! the bed was comfy and the chill out area was great too! lovely place to read a book in the hammock or have a nice cup of tea and chat to new people!

I absolutely loved my stay Casa Ahau! This place feels like home. I stayed here for nearly three weeks and kept on extending my stay. The staff is fabulous, the breakfast delicious and the vibe is perfect for people who want to avoid party hostels and still socialize. It's close to town while still being pretty quiet and you have a great view from the roof top. All in all: I couldn't recommend this place enough. Eeerick is a great host and I'll definetly come back to visit. Gracias Casa Ahau <3

I didn't have any major issues. It's a really great value for the money. The streets can be a bit noisy due to dogs, but that's the same almost anywhere in San Marcos.

It is a nice looking hostel with a lot of places to chill. the location is good as well.

I really did not feel comfortable there. The owners are very intimate towards women. It was kind of a shared feeling with a lot of the other female guests.

Lovely community vibe here and such welcoming hosts. Fantastic place to relax and meet new people. Strict no noise after 9pm rule which meant we could have lovely un-interupted sleep.

The owners are so welcoming and create a warm, comfortable environment to hangout in. The breakfast, which is included, is outstanding. I can’t wait to come back and visit Casa Ahau again!!!!
